Wired and cordless doorbell systems have their own advantages. You can use the cordless model if you want ease of installation and a wide selection of chimes. Choose a traditional wired system if you want a sturdy and reliable bell shape.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Installing the Doorbell Wirelessly
Step 1. Find an easy-to-see place to place the doorbell button or switch
The doorbell switch is in the form of a button that will ring the bell when pressed. Designate an easy-to-see spot next to the door to place the button. Guests should be able to see it easily when standing at the door.
- The ideal place for the doorbell button is around eye level on either side of the door frame.
- We recommend that you use a doorbell model that is weather-resistant so that it is not damaged by rain and heat.
Step 2. Attach the doorbell knob using screws or glue
Most doorbell buttons have holes in the back for easy installation. Measure the button and the hole, then attach the button to the door or wall with an electric drill. Alternatively, you can apply superglue to the back of the button and stick it firmly on the surface you want.
Wipe the surface where you want to place the buzzer button with a clean, damp cloth before you install
Step 3. Choose a place in the middle to place the music box
Ideally, the doorbell music box should be placed in the center of the house for everyone to hear. Use a room that is relatively the same distance as all other rooms in the house. Choose a room where the door is never closed so that the sound can be heard from outside.
For example, you can place a doorbell music box in the dining room or living room
Step 4. Insert the battery into the doorbell music box
Most wireless music boxes run on a D battery. Open the box and install the battery according to the instructions, then close the back panel tightly. Select the location in the house where you want to install the music box. Attach the box using screws.
Most music boxes have holes for screwing in the back
Method 2 of 2: Installing the Wired Doorbell
Step 1. Disconnect the power source through the meter box or fuse to prevent electric shock
Make sure you have turned off the circuit that supplies power to the power source you will be using before starting the installation. Turn off the appropriate switch on the breaker panel or fuse box.
Make sure the power source is completely turned off by testing a light switch or other switch in the area
Step 2. Connect the doorbell cable to the music box
Open the cover of the music box, and plug the cable through the provided conduit to the proper terminal. Wrap the ends of the wires around the appropriate terminals. Tighten the captive screw to secure the cable winding.
- You can choose from a variety of music boxes with different dimensions and sounds.
- Many music box models include a small printed wiring diagram to help with installation.
- The cover can be removed easily without having to use tools.
- As a guide for yourself at a later date, label the cable for its intended use (eg for transformers or doorbell switches). Write this on the tape attached to each cable.
Step 3. Secure the music box in place
Make sure you can connect the cable attached to the music box to the transformer. Hold the music box where you want it, then screw in the provided screws until the box is firmly attached to the wall or ceiling. If the platen of the music box is firmly attached, place the cover on the device until it locks securely.
Step 4. Install the buzzer button near the door
Select the location of the doorbell button near the driveway. Drill holes for the wires that run from the back of the knob to the wall, towards the music box and transformer. Most doorbell models provide screws to secure the plate in place.
Tighten the screws with a power drill, then place the cover on the device until it snaps into place
Step 5. Plug the cord so that the transformer connects to the music box and doorbell button
Carefully wind the ends of the wires around the transformer terminals. This small metal device will convert the AC power from the button on the door into low-voltage power to power the music box. Transformers are usually mounted directly on the electrical box to keep the high-voltage wires in a closed place.
Step 6. Connect the doorbell button to the music box using the twisted wire connector
Use the plastic cable connector to connect the cables to the doorbell button and the music box. Tie the two ends of the cable together and attach the cap on the end, then twist the cover until the two cables are firmly together. This direct connection will generate a signal between the doorbell button and the music box, while the transformer acts as a safe step-down device.
Step 7. Restart the power line and test the doorbell
Restart the electricity in the house through the power box or fuse. Press the doorbell button to test it. If the music box is working fine, your task is done.
