This wikiHow teaches you how to prevent ads from appearing on YouTube. If you want to pay a monthly fee, register a YouTube Premium account to hide ads on platforms linked to that YouTube account. Otherwise, you can use a free extension called Adblock Plus to block YouTube ads on web browsers. You can also use the Adblock Plus mobile app to prevent ads from showing on iPhone mobile browsers and Android smartphones. Finally, you can turn off ads on videos that you upload yourself so viewers don't have to see them.

Method 1 of 8: Registering a YouTube Premium Account
Step 1. Go to the YouTube Premium registration page
Visit https://www.youtube.com/premium through your computer's web browser.
With a YouTube Premium subscription, all ads will be removed from the videos you watch as long as you're signed in to your Google account on all the devices you use to enjoy YouTube (e.g. Windows computers, Mac computers, iPhones, Android devices, Xbox, etc.)
Step 2. Click TRY IT FREE
It's a blue button in the middle of the page.
- If you're already signed in to your Google account and have previously used YouTube Premium or YouTube Red's one month free trial, this button will be labeled “ GET YOUTUBE PREMIUM ”.
- If you're not logged into your Google account, type in your email address and password when prompted, then click the “button again. TRY IT FREE ” before continuing.
Step 3. Enter payment details
Type the card number, expiration date, and card security code in the appropriate text fields, then enter the billing address according to the address displayed on the bank account in the "Billing address" field.
- If you want to use a non-card payment method, click “ Add credit or debit card ” at the top of the window, then select “ Add new PayPal account ” and follow the instructions shown on the screen.
- If you already have your card information stored in your Google account, all you need to do is enter the card's security code.
Step 4. Click BUY

Method 3 of 8: Blocking Ads on Firefox
Step 1. Open Firefox

Method 4 of 8: Blocking Ads on Microsoft Edge
Step 1. Open the “Start” menu

Method 5 of 8: Blocking Ads on Safari
Step 1. Open Safari
Click the Safari browser icon that looks like a blue compass in the Mac's Dock.
Step 2. Go to the Adblock Plus download page
Visit https://adblockplus.org/en/download via Safari.
Step 3. Click Safari
This link is below the " BLOCK ADS ON ANY DESKTOP BROWSER " heading on the left side of the page.
Step 4. Open the downloaded extension file
Click the " Downloads " arrow icon in the top right corner of the Safari window, then click the name of the Adblock Plus extension to open it.
Step 5. Follow the instructions shown on the screen
Since the extension file is a downloaded file from the internet, you may be asked to confirm the installation of Adblock Plus before the extension is installed.
It is possible that you will need to click the “ Trust " or " Install from Developer ” when prompted to install this extension.
Step 6. Close the Adblock Plus tab when it displays

Step 7. Restart Safari

Method 6 of 8: Blocking Ads on iPhone
Step 1. Open the App Store
on iPhone.

Method 7 of 8: Blocking Ads on Android Devices
Step 1. Open
Play Store on Android devices.
Tap the Play Store icon, which looks like a colorful triangle on a white background.
Step 2. Touch the search bar
This bar is at the top of the page.
Step 3. Search for Adblock Plus
Type in adblock plus, then tap the " Search " or " Enter " button.
Step 4. Touch Adblock Browser for Android
This option is at the top of the search results page.

Step 5. Touch INSTALL
It's a green button in the upper-right corner of the screen.

YouTube videos that you watch through the Adblock Browser for Android browser will not display ads.
Method 8 of 8: Disabling Ads on Uploaded Videos
Step 1. Understand the right time to follow this step
Only use this method if you want to disable ads on videos you upload to YouTube so viewers don't have to see ads. If not, switch to one of the other methods previously described in this article.
Removing ads from a video will cancel the monetization of the video in question
Step 2. Open YouTube
Visit https://www.youtube.com/ through your computer's web browser. The main YouTube page will be displayed if you are already signed in to your Google account.
- If not, click the " SIGN IN ” in the top right corner of the page and enter your email address and password before continuing.

Step 3. Click the profile icon

Step 7. Click the " Monetization " drop-down box
This box is next to the video's name. Once clicked, a drop-down menu will appear.
If the option is not available, monetization has not been enabled on your account. This means that the videos you upload will not display ads
Step 8. Click Off
This option is in the drop-down menu.
Step 9. Click SAVE
It's in the lower-right corner of the menu. Ads will be turned off for selected videos. However, after this, you will not receive any money from the video.
