Tourism is a journey carried out from one place to another with the aim not to make a living in that place, but to have fun. Being a tourism student will demand more effort when it comes time for you to do practical work, especially if you are pursuing a Diploma 4 education level. If you want to avoid regrets while doing an internship at a travel agency, check out our quick tips below.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Understanding Apprentice
Step 1. Know what an internship is
Internships are part of an integrated job training system. This means that you will be trained by a training institution by working directly under the guidance and supervision of instructors or workers who are more experienced in the process of producing goods and/or services in the company, in order to master certain skills or expertise.
- In internship activities, we have the opportunity to apply all the knowledge that has been learned in college and learn details about the ins and outs of professional work standards. This experience can then be a provision in living a real career path.
- Students can also broaden their knowledge of the industrial world and improve their practical skills and expertise.
- Apart from students, both the university and the company also get certain benefits.
Method 2 of 2: Make the Most of the Intern
Step 1. Make choices wisely
If you don't want to be sorry and always find fault, find the travel agency you want as an internship. Don't be provoked and don't go along with it if your friend wants to do an internship in city A or city B.
Step 2. Build a network
The role of friends you know off campus is very important. This means, you must have a lot of acquaintances besides friends on campus and in the neighborhood where you live. You will really need accurate information about the travel agency you want, and this agency may be located in a location quite far from where you live your daily life.
Step 3. Choose a large-scale travel agency
If the bureau where your internship has a large place, you can be sure the interns will have a lot of work to do. Do not choose an internship in the form of a shop. Because, based on observations and experiences so far, a travel agency in the form of a shophouse is a new agency or a branch of the main travel agency.
Step 4. Choose a travel agency with a running tour program
Isn't there a Guiding course in tourism courses? You will feel very lost if you do an internship at a travel agency whose "tour" section doesn't work.
However, don't just look for an agency with a well-running tour section. Also make sure you can apply everything you have learned on campus
Step 5. Stay committed and be consistent about your choices
If you have chosen the right place, follow your heart and stick to your point. Don't change your mind and follow your friends' opinions as you approach the D-Day of practice.
Tips
- Have fun and enjoy your internship opportunity!
- Some companies will pay their interns, while others will not. Either way, remember that at least you'll get some experience, and that experience is worth a lot more than money!
