This wikiHow teaches you how to cut and merge sections of one (or more) PDF documents into a single document. You can do this on a Windows computer using a combination of the Snipping Tool and Microsoft Word, or using Preview on a Mac. If you can't access Microsoft Word and/or Preview, you can use an online PDF splitter and cutter service called PDF Resizer for free.

Method 1 of 3: Using PDF Resizer
Step 1. Open the PDF Resizer site
Visit https://pdfresizer.com/ in a browser.
Step 2. Click the Split PDF tab
It's in the top-left corner of the page.
If your PDF file contains only one page, skip to the "Click tabs" step. Crop PDF ".
Step 3. Click Choose Files
It's a gray button in the middle of the page. Once clicked, a new window will open.
Step 4. Select the PDF file
Click the PDF file that you want to use. You may first need to click on the file's storage folder (eg. Desktop) on the left side of the file browsing window.
Step 5. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. The selected PDF file will be added to the PDF Resizer webpage.
Step 6. Click Upload files
It's a purple button at the bottom of the page.
Step 7. Check the box "one page per file"
This box is at the bottom of the PDF window.
Step 8. Share the PDF file
Click the button Looks good, do the magic!
”, then wait for the PDF file to split into separate pages.
This process can take a few minutes if your internet connection is slow or the PDF file is large enough
Step 9. Download the PDF
Click the button Download ” circle on the right side of the page. The separate pages of the PDF file will be downloaded to your computer.
Step 10. Extract the PDF file
With the extraction process, you can cut and merge PDF pages. To do so:
- Windows – Double click the downloaded ZIP folder, click “ Extract ", click " Extract all, and click " Extract ” when prompted to extract the folder.
- Mac – Double-click the ZIP folder to extract its contents.
Step 11. Reopen the PDF Resizer site
If you previously closed the PDF Resizer site, reopen the site.
Step 12. Click the Crop PDF tab
This tab is at the top of the PDF Resizer site.
Step 13. Click Choose Files
Step 14. Select the PDF page
Click one of the previously shared PDF pages.
You can only crop one page at a time. If you upload more than one page, the same cropping position and shape will be applied to each uploaded page
Step 15. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the window.
Step 16. Click Upload files
Step 17. Select the cutting area
Click and drag the cursor over the part of the PDF file that you want to save.
Step 18. Click Crop it
It's a purple button at the bottom of the page.
Step 19. Download the cropped page
Click Download ” below the cropped PDF page, on the right side of the page. After that, the file will be downloaded to your computer.
At this point, you can upload another PDF page and crop it if there are multiple pages that need trimming
Step 20. Click the Merge PDF tab
This tab is at the far left of the toolbar that appears at the top of the page.
Step 21. Click Choose Files
Step 22. Select all PDF pages
Click and drag the cursor over all the pages you want to merge, or hold down the Ctrl key while clicking each page/file you want to upload.
You can choose a file with a maximum size of 100 MB or 50 pages (depending on the limitations that are met first)
Step 23. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the window.
Step 24. Click Upload files
Step 25. Check the PDF page order
If the pages are displayed in the proper order, you can move on to the next step. Otherwise, click and drag the pages up or down to change the order.
Step 26. Click Looks good, do the magic
It's at the bottom of the page. After that, the selected pages will be combined into one PDF file.
Step 27. Scroll down and download the PDF file
Click the button Download ” below the merged PDF file on the right side of the page. The PDF file will immediately download to your computer.
Method 2 of 3: Using Word on a Windows Computer
Step 1. Open the PDF document
Use a PDF reader application such as Adobe Reader to open it.
If you don't have a PDF reader yet, Adobe Reader can be downloaded for free from the Adobe Reader site
Step 2. Scroll to the page you want to crop
If your PDF file has more than one page and you want to crop a specific page, make sure the page is displayed before moving on to the next step.
Step 3. Open the “Start” menu
Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen.
Step 4. Type in the snipping tool
The computer will search for the Snipping Tool program.
Step 5. Click the Snipping Tool
It's at the top of the "Start" window. A small window at the top of the PDF file will appear next.
Step 6. Enable “Rectangular Snip” option
Click Mode ” at the top of the Snipping Tool program window, then select “ Rectangular Snip ” in the displayed drop-down menu. The mouse cursor will change to a cross thread icon.
Step 7. Select the cutting area
Click and drag the crosshairs over the portion of the PDF document that you want to crop. When the cursor is released, the selected portion will be clipped.
Step 8. Release the mouse button
The PDF document will be cut into the previously selected sections.
Step 9. Click the “Save” button
It's a purple diskette icon at the top of the Snipping Tool window. The File Explorer window will appear after that.
Step 10. Click the "Desktop" folder
This folder is on the left side of the File Explorer window. After that, your computer's desktop will be selected as the place to save the cropped PDF file so that you can easily find the file later.
Step 11. Click Save
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. The file will be saved on the desktop with the name " Capture ".
At this point, you can go back and cut any other pages you want in the PDF file
Step 12. Open Microsoft Word
The app icon looks like a white “W” on a dark blue background.
Step 13. Click Blank document
It's in the upper-left corner of the window. A blank document will be displayed after that.
Step 14. Click the Insert tab, then click Pictures.
Tabs " Insert ” is at the top of the Word window, while the “ Picture ” is in the " Illustrations " section of the toolbar.
Step 15. Select the image you took or cropped from the PDF file
Click the tab " Desktop ” on the left side of the file browsing window, then click the image named " Capture " and select the button " Insert ”.
If you cropped multiple images, hold down the Ctrl key while clicking each image that you want to insert into the document. Make sure you click them in the order you want them to appear
Step 16. Click File, then click Export.
Tabs File ” is in the upper-left corner of the window, and the option “ Export ” is at the bottom of the pop-out menu.
Step 17. Create a PDF document
Click the tab Create PDF/XPS Documents ” on the left side of the screen, then click “ Create PDF/XPS ” in the middle of the page.
Step 18. Save the file
Click the save location on the left side of the window, type in a file name, and click the “ Publish ” in the lower right corner of the window. The Word document containing the image fragments will now be saved as a new PDF file.
Method 3 of 3: Using Preview on a Mac
Step 1. Open the PDF document in the Preview application
Double-click the Preview app icon which looks like a stacked screenshot, click “ File ” on the menu bar, click “ Open… ” on the drop-down menu, select the PDF file from the dialog box, and click the “ Open ” in the lower right corner of the window.
Preview is Apple's built-in image reviewing app that's automatically included in most versions of Mac OS
Step 2. Click View
This option is in the menu bar that appears at the top of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 3. Click Single Page
This option is in the drop-down menu. After that, a complete page will be displayed in the Preview window.
Step 4. Click Tools
This option is also on the menu bar.
Step 5. Click Rectangular Selection
This option is in the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Select the cutting area
Click and drag the cross thread icon over the part of the PDF file that you want to save. For example, if you want to save the top of the page, but want to create the bottom, drag the crosshairs from one end of the top of the page down until the section you want to save is selected.
Step 7. Release the mouse button
The selected area will be surrounded by a blinking square.
Step 8. Click the Tools option again
This option is in the menu bar.
Step 9. Click Crop
Page elements that fall outside the selected section will be discarded.
Repeat this process for each page you want to crop
Step 10. Click File on the menu bar, then click Export as PDF….
A pop-up window will be displayed.
Step 11. Click Save
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. After that, the PDF file with the trimmed pages will be saved as a separate file.
