In games that have a high level of difficulty, like Don't Starve, each action has its own consequences. This of course can make you depressed. As a result, you will experience various obstacles when playing game characters. Sanity is one of the main game systems in Don't Starve. This system is represented by a brain symbol located at the top right of the screen. Your Sanity will decrease when you are near monsters, night falls, or eat spoiled food (Spoiled). If your Sanity is drastically reduced, you'll have to fight some Shadow Creatures (monsters that appear when your Sanity is low) which are very dangerous and can kill you if you're not prepared to deal with them. Therefore, you should try to keep Sanity high on Don't Starve.
Step
Part 1 of 6: Preparing for Survival Needs
Step 1. Create the equipment
You need a Pickaxe (a tool used to mine rocks) and Ax (a tool used to cut down trees) to collect materials in this game. The two tools can be found on the "Tools" tab which looks like a crossed Ax and Pickaxe icon. To make Ax, you need a Twig (can be obtained from dry bushes scattered around the world) and a Flint (sharp stones scattered throughout the game). To make a Pickaxe, you will need two Twigs and two Flints.
To use these tools, select the tool by right-clicking (for Computer) or moving the tab menu with the right analog stick and pressing the right D-pad (for PlayStation 4). You can use Ax to cut down trees and Pickaxe to mine Boulder (big rocks). Left-click (for computers) or press the "X" button (for PlayStation 4) to use these tools to collect materials
Step 2. Collect the materials needed to survive
Once you have the equipment, you can start collecting the materials you need. Make sure you cut down trees to get Logs because these are very much needed to build a Science Machine. In addition, you also have to collect Rock (stones) from Boulder to make Science Machines and other items. Cut Grass (grass clippings) taken from Grass Tuft are needed to make Campfire (bonfires) and Torch (torches).
Step 3. Make a Crafting Station (a tool used to make items)
In addition to the Science Machine, you'll also need the Alchemy Engine to craft the items you need to survive. Both of these items can be created on the Science tab which is shaped like an atomic icon. However, you need a Science Machine to build an Alchemy Engine.
- To make the Science Machine, you need 1 Gold Nugget (gold nugget), 4 Logs, and 4 Rock. To make Alchemy Engine, you need 4 Boards (wooden boards), 2 Cut Stones (stones that have been cut on the Refine tab), and 6 Gold Nuggets. You can make Boards and Cut Stones using the Science Machine. Both items can be created on the " Refine " tab which is shaped like a diamond.
- You can get Gold Nugget by giving Pig King Meat (if he appears in the game world), mining Boulders that have gold streaks (usually found in Rockyland areas or rocky areas), or looking for them in the Graveyard area (cemetery area)..
Part 2 of 6: Increasing Sanity by Sleeping
Step 1. Collect a large amount of food
Sleep can increase Health (the number of lives a character has) and also Sanity. However, Hunger (an indicator that shows the character's fullness level) will decrease drastically when you wake up. Therefore, make sure you have gathered plenty of food before bed. Even gathering large amounts of Berries and Carrots is enough to keep you from starving.
Cooking food using Campfire is an effective way to increase the Hunger points earned from almost any type of food. To cook a meal, all you have to do is select the food, approach Campfire, and left-click (for computers) or press the "X" button (for PlayStation 4) to cook it
Step 2. Find a safe place
If you want to sleep at night, you should find a safe place to camp. Therefore, it's a good idea to look for areas that aren't filled with Spider Den (cobwebs), Beefalo (buffalo-like) herds and Frog (frog) ponds. Areas filled with Spider Dens and Frog ponds often spawn aggressive creatures (Spider Den produces Spiders or spiders and ponds spawn Frogs), while Beefalo tend to be aggressive and attack you when breeding season arrives (marked by the Beefalo's butt turning red).
Note that you cannot sleep if you are in a dangerous area or your Hunger is very low. Therefore, it's best if you only sleep if you want to raise your Sanity quickly, don't mind the penalty, or have a large supply of food
Step 3. Make the bed
Almost all characters, except for Wickerbottom, can sleep by making a Fur Roll, Straw Roll, Tent (tent) or Siesta Lean-To (for the Reign of Giants DLC). You can make a Straw Roll, which can only be used once, at the start of the game as long as you have the Science Machine. To make Fur Rolls and Tents, you'll need the Alchemy Engine. This item is the second Crafting Station available in the game.
- If you're planning to build a tent, it's a good idea to find your main camping ground first as this item acts as a semi-permanent bed (can't be picked up without crushing it with a hammer or hammer and can only be used six times). If you're planning to build a tent as well as a campfire, it's a good idea to find a large camping area.
- The Straw Roll is the easiest bed to make. To make this item, you only need 6 Cut Grass and 1 Rope (rope). After getting these items, you can make Straw Rolls using the Science Machine.
- Although Fur Rolls can be carried and used anywhere, Tents are a better choice because Fur Rolls require not only 1 Straw Roll, but also 2 Bunny Puffs found in the Cave. Bunny Puff is an item that is difficult to obtain because the Cave area is very dangerous. To make a Tent, you only need 6 Silks (silk obtained from spiders), 4 Twigs (twigs) and 3 Ropes. These items can be found on the surface.
Part 3 of 6: Increasing Sanity by Wearing Clothes
Step 1. Find the Dress tab
Basically Sanity is reduced because you are away from civilization. Therefore, wearing clothes can increase Sanity because clothes are one of the things that keep a character civilized.
You'll find the Dress tab in the shape of a green hat at the bottom of the Crafting Bar (located on the left side of the screen). In that tab you can create clothes that have various effects
Step 2. Take Flower
While this may sound silly, picking up Flowers can be an excellent way to keep Sanity high, especially if you're early in the game. Each Flower you take will increase Sanity by 5 points. If you have 12 Petals (petals) from the flowers you pick, you can make Garland. When worn, this item can increase Sanity for 6 days.
While most outfits can only be crafted when you already have a Science Machine or Alchemy Engine, Garland can be crafted early in the game without using either item
Step 3. Consider wearing other clothes
Apart from Garland, you can make other clothes after getting the materials you need. One of the most effective and easy outfits to make early in the game is the Top Hat. To make this item, you will need 6 Silks and make them using the Science Machine.
While they don't increase Sanity, some outfits have other functions. For example, Straw Hats are used to make other hats and Beefalo Hats are used to keep you warm in winter and allow you to approach the Beefalo safely when breeding season arrives. In addition, the Beekeeper Hat makes you immune from Bee and Killer Bee attacks
Part 4 of 6: Eating Food
Step 1. Choose food
Eating food, except for Monster Meat, is a good way to restore Hunger, Health, and Sanity. At the start of the game, your main food sources are the Rabbit (rabbit) trapped in the Trap, the Berry that comes from the Berry Bush, and the Carrot that you find in the game area. You can cook all of these foods using Campfire and eat them to increase your Hunger. However, in order to cook Sanity-enhancing food, you have to use a more complicated method
- Carrots can be found on the ground and Berry Bushes are scattered throughout the game world. You can pick it up by left-clicking (for computers) or pressing the X button (for PlayStation 4).
- To catch Rabbit, make a Trap with 6 Cut Grass and 2 Twig. You can make it on the Survival tab which is shaped like a looped rope. After making it, place the Trap on or near the Rabbit Hole (rabbit hole) which is shaped like a small hole in the ground that is in the Grassland (grassland area) and Savannah (savanna area) area. After that, wait until Rabbit is caught. After the Rabbit is caught, the Trap will make a sound and jump. If you take the Trap, you will get Trap and Rabbit. You can use Trap seven times before this item disappears. However, you must kill Rabbit first to get Morsel (Meat type). To kill Rabbit, right-click (for computers) Rabbit or press the right D-pad (for PlayStation 4) while selecting Rabbit.
- By using the Science Machine, you can create a Bird Trap. For that, you need 3 Twig and 4 Silk and create them on the Survival tab. This item serves to catch Bird (birds).
- To create a Basic Farm (an item used as a place to grow Seed), you will need a Science Machine, 8 Grass, 4 Manure (animal dung used as fertilizer), and 4 Logs. You can make it on the Food tab which is shaped like a carrot embedded in the ground. You can get Manure from Beefalo which produces it regularly at random times. Hordes of Beefalo can be found in the Savannah area. You can also get Manure by giving food to Pig (pig). These creatures can be found randomly on the map. In addition, many Pigs gathered in a large village usually found at the end of the road. This village usually provides vegetables and fruits, such as Berry, Carrot, plants produced by Basic Farm, Cave Banana, and others. After placing a Basic Farm, you can plant a Seed by selecting it and interacting with the Basic Farm. You can wait for the seeds to grow slowly throughout the day or you can fertilize them using Manure until they are ready to harvest. Once the plants grow up, you can interact with the plants to harvest them. By creating a Basic Farm, you can have unlimited food sources.
Step 2. Create Jerky
Jerky and Small Jerky are durable foods that can raise a little Hunger, Sanity, Health. To make Jerky, you must first make a Drying Rack using Science Machine. To make this item, you will need 3 Rope, 3 Twig, and 2 Charcoal (charcoal).
- You can get Charcoal by cutting down burning trees. You can do this by creating and holding a Torch and right-clicking the tree. Any burning tree can be cut down with Ax to get a Charcoal.
- After creating the Drying Rack, you can place various Meats, such as Frog Legs, Batilisk Wings, and Monster Meats, by approaching the Drying Rack and left-clicking or pressing the "X" button to place them. After a few days, the Meat will turn into Jerky.
Step 3. Cook a meal in a Crock Pot
Using a Crock Pot is another way to cook food. To make this item, you will need 6 Charcoal, 6 Twig, and 3 Cut Stones. After that, create the item using Science Machine. To use the Crock Pot, you have to put 4 foods in it. After that, wait a while for the food to finish cooking. Almost any food cooked in a Crock Pot can increase your Sanity by a large amount as long as you know the recipe.
- You can use Twig as a filler (an additional ingredient that can be used to complement the main food ingredients) when cooking with a Crock Pot. Thus, you can save on the main food ingredients.
- Be careful when adding Monster Meat and Durian. If you use too many Twigs, you will produce a Lasagna Monster that can significantly reduce Health and Sanity.
Part 5 of 6: Make Friends with Game Creatures
Step 1. Find Pig
While exploring the game world, sometimes you'll run into Pigs walking around. These creatures can usually be found near one or more Pig Houses. Pigs are intelligent creatures who dominate the game world. You can befriend this creature and increase your Sanity when you're nearby.
Step 2. Feed Pig
By giving Meat to Pig, you can befriend him. After that, he tends to follow and help you when fighting monsters and chopping trees. Standing near Pig can restore Sanity continuously. Each type of Meat has a different value. The higher the Meat score, the longer Pig is your friend.
- Give Pig Meat regularly so you can continue to befriend him.
- Be careful when giving Monster Meat. If you give Pig 4 Monster Meat, he will turn into a Werepig. This monster will attack and reduce your Sanity when you are near it.
Step 3. Stand next to the Pig you have befriended
As long as you're near a Pig you've befriended, your Sanity will increase steadily. However, to upgrade Sanity faster, you have to stand very close to it.
Step 4. Give food to Bunnyman
After playing the game for a long time, you will meet a big bunny named Bunnyman in the Cave area. Unlike Pig, Bunnyman can and will attack you if you bring Meat. However, you can give Carrot to Bunnyman to befriend him. These foods can be found on the surface. Bunnyman has the same function as Pig. If you are nearby, your Sanity will increase.
Part 6 of 6: Repairing Relic
Step 1. Explore the Ruins area
Sometimes you'll find some items and piles of colored stones called Relics. Relics (and Broken Relics) are relics of Ancient Civilization (an ancient, extinct nation) that is thought to be the ruler of the game world you are playing. While for some these items are valuable archaeological sites, you can use them to survive.
Step 2. Grab some Rock
Rock is an abundant and renewable resource in the Cave area. Therefore, you can take as much Rock as possible. Take a large amount of Rock because this item is a very valuable resource.
Step 3. Repair Relic
Once you find a Relic, you have two options when interacting with this item: destroy it or repair it. While destroying a Relic with a Hammer will yield critical resources that are rarely found, repairing a Relic with a Rock will restore 20 Sanity points. For players who have survived for a long time, these two options can be an advantage or a disaster, depending on the resource supply or condition of Sanity. Choose the available options wisely as Relics cannot be updated.
Tips
- Tents can restore Health and prevent monsters from attacking you while sleeping in them.
- Before going to bed, remove items or clothing that loses Durability (a game system that limits the amount or duration of use of items) when worn. This is done to prevent the durability of items and clothes from being reduced while sleeping.
- Some characters have their own way of increasing Sanity: Wilson can increase Sanity by shaving his beard with a Razor (a razor), Willow can restore Sanity when near fire, WX-78 can restore and increase Sanity's capacity by eating Gear, and Maxwell can increase Sanity. Sanity on an ongoing basis.
