Is your printer having a leak? Or is the pen that you use often damaged so that the ink leaks? When your workbench is stained with ink, you can clean it by following the guidelines below. The faster the ink stains are removed, the easier the process will be!
Step
Method 1 of 2: Removing Ink Stains with Alcohol
Step 1. Wipe off the ink stains with a wet tissue
The first step to cleaning ink stains is to clean them with a tissue. Before the ink dries, wipe it off immediately with a wet tissue.
- Do not rub the spilled ink directly. It's best to clean it first with a tissue.
- Continue to clean the ink stains with a wet tissue several times until there is no more ink on the tissue.
Step 2. Apply alcohol or hairspray
Alcohol is one of the most effective cleaners. Hairspray can also be used as a good alternative. Alcohol and hairspray can clean ink stains on laminate surfaces, wood, metal, plastic, glass, and other common materials.
- Wet a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol or hairspray. Squeeze the cotton ball so it doesn't get too wet.
- Rub the ink stain in a circular motion until it disappears. The cotton ball will absorb the stuck ink stains.
- An inexpensive hairspray is a good option. Generally, hairspray that is not too expensive has a high alcohol content.
Step 3. Repeat this process with a new cotton ball
Rub a cotton ball on the ink stain, pressing slightly. However, do not rub the ink stains too roughly so that the workbench surface is not damaged or scratched.
You can remove ink stains from metal surfaces by applying rubbing alcohol. After that, wipe the metal surface with a clean cloth until the stain is gone
Method 2 of 2: Removing Ink Stains with Home Appliances
Step 1. Try applying the cleaner on an invisible surface
Choose an invisible part of the tabletop to test the effectiveness of the cleaner.
- You don't need to test the proper cleaning method. However, you will need to test the effectiveness of the cleaner you are going to use so that it doesn't cause additional damage or stains.
- Do not rub the cleaner on the stain harshly. Cotton and baking soda can scratch the surface of the table if applied too roughly.
- Before starting, first clean the surface of the table that is affected by ink stains with a cotton swab or wet cloth.
Step 2. Use baking soda
Mix baking soda with water until it can coat the ink-stained part of the table surface. Baking soda can be used to remove ink stains from laminate, metal, plastic, wood, and glass.
- Apply baking soda to the stuck ink stain. Scrub with your fingers or a toothbrush.
- Use a damp cloth to rub off the sticky baking soda. Do not rub the wet cloth too harshly as this can scratch the table surface.
- Repeat this step if necessary.
- Wipe with a cotton ball moistened with alcohol.
Step 3. Use toothpaste
Toothpaste with baking soda is a pretty good option. Coat the surface of the table that is affected by ink stains with toothpaste until evenly distributed.
- Use a damp cloth to remove a layer of toothpaste from the surface of the table. Gently wipe the surface of the table so as not to scratch.
- If there are remnants of toothpaste still attached, wipe it with a cotton ball that has been moistened with alcohol.
- If the table is made of wood, let the toothpaste coat sit for 10-15 minutes. If it's not made of wood, the toothpaste layer doesn't need to be left on for too long.
Step 4. Apply acetone or nail polish remover solution
Because it is so effective, acetone is often used as a nail polish remover. Therefore, acetone can be used as an alternative to remove ink stains.
- Place a cotton ball in the mouth of the acetone bottle and shake gently. This is done so that the cotton ball can absorb the acetone well.
- Wipe the ink stains with a cotton ball soaked in acetone.
- Be careful when using acetone. Put on gloves and don't forget to test the acetone on an invisible table surface.
- Acetone can be used on metal, glass, plastic, or even leather surfaces.
Step 5. Use mosquito spray or sunscreen
Mosquito spray applied to the skin can also be used to remove stuck ink stains. This method is very suitable to be applied to surfaces made of plastic.
- Make sure you test first on an invisible part of the table. Remember, the content of this product may damage the surface of your table.
- Apply mosquito spray or sunscreen to the ink stain evenly.
- If the ink stain is small enough, apply mosquito spray or sunscreen to a cotton ball and rub it over the stain.
- Wipe the mosquito spray or sunscreen with a soft, clean cloth. Repeat this step if the ink stain remains.
Step 6. Apply mayonnaise to remove stubborn ink stains
To remove it on wood, you will need a strong cleaner. Therefore, prepare a bottle of mayonnaise.
- Coat the ink stain with mayonnaise and leave it overnight.
- Wipe the sticky mayonnaise with a wet tissue and then rinse the wooden surface with a damp towel.
- Make the wood surface shiny again using a clean cloth and polishing the wood.
