Wearing false eyelashes is a great way to help fill in thin eyelashes and frame the eyes. The false eyelashes are glued slightly above your top lashes with semi-permanent glue. These glues often contain cyanoacrylate, also known as superglue, and are sometimes a bit difficult to remove. As a result, the process of removing false eyelashes is something that must be done carefully, because otherwise your natural eyelashes can easily be pulled out too. However, you can use a special false eyelash glue remover, makeup remover, or various oils to carefully remove the false eyelashes and remove any excess glue.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using Glue Remover
Step 1. Purchase a false eyelash glue remover
Most false eyelash kits also come with glue, but glue remover isn't always included. However, there are many brands of eyelash glue remover in the beauty supply section of your local convenience store. Choose a brand that suits your skin's needs; if possible, choose a glue remover that is manufactured by the same company that manufactures the eyelash glue you are using.
Always make sure beforehand that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients it contains
Step 2. Remove your makeup
Since a build-up of makeup on your eyelids can make removing false lashes difficult, it's a good idea to remove your eye makeup first before using an eyelash glue remover. Use a makeup remover or baby oil to gently remove your eye makeup. Dab the cleanser on a cotton swab, and rub it over the eyelids until most of the makeup is gone.
- Do not try to remove mascara at this point, if you are wearing it. This can also tear the false eyelashes and make the skin of your eyelids pull back and cause discomfort.
- But don't wash your face with soap and water to remove your eye makeup as this can damage both your fake and real lashes.
Step 3. Apply glue remover to the cotton
Position yourself in front of the mirror, then remove the glue remover and a piece of cotton. Apply a small amount of glue remover to the cotton swab, until the cotton is completely damp. The cleanser may smell a little like acetone, but this is normal.
Step 4. Use the glue remover on your false eyelashes
Gently wipe the lash line with a cotton swab that has been moistened with glue remover. Sweep the base of the false eyelashes with a cotton swab several times to remove as much glue as possible. Do this on both eyes, and let it soak in for 20-30 seconds.
Step 5. Remove false eyelashes
If you plan to get rid of the false eyelashes, then you can pull them off with your fingers. If you want to save and reuse it at a later time, use tweezers to remove it. Hold the false eyelashes as close to your eyelids as possible, starting from the inner corner of the eye. Gently pull up to release it from the eyelid. The false eyelashes should come off easily; if it still feels sticky when you pull it, brush it again with glue remover and wait 30 seconds before trying again.
Make sure you don't pull on your natural lashes. If you feel pain when removing false eyelashes, stop for a moment and remove the natural lashes that are attracted to them
Step 6. Clean the remaining eyelash glue
Put the false eyelashes aside and examine your eyelids. There's a good chance that there's still some glue on your natural lashes, and they need to be cleaned. To do this, apply a little more glue remover to the cotton swab, then brush over any remaining glue. Then use a dry cotton tip to gently wipe off the glue, thereby cleaning your eyelids. Use a little warm water and a facial cleanser of your choice to get the job done.
Method 2 of 4: Using Makeup Remover
Step 1. Choose your makeup remover
If you want to save and reuse your false eyelashes at a later time, then choose a makeup remover that doesn't contain oil. If you intend to get rid of the false eyelashes after removing them, then any type of makeup remover doesn't matter. Whatever type of makeup remover you choose, make sure it's not expired and doesn't contain ingredients that might cause allergies.
Step 2. Remove your eye makeup
Practically enough, you can use the same product to either remove eye makeup or remove false eyelashes. However, before trying to remove false eyelashes, remove any eye shadow or eyeliner that you may be wearing. Pour the cleansing liquid on a cotton swab, and gently rub it over your eyes to remove make-up. But don't wash off the mascara just yet, because this can damage your false eyelashes.
Some makeup removers will not dissolve false eyelash glue. So, it's a good idea to look for a makeup remover product that lists these two functions on the label
Step 3. Pour makeup remover on cotton
Take out a clean cotton swab and soak the tip in the makeup remover until it's completely wet. Position yourself in front of a mirror, so you can see your eyelids and lash line very close.
Step 4. Wipe off the eyelash glue with a cotton swab
Gently wipe the lash line where the glue sticks the most, using the wet end of the cotton swab. Move the cotton back and forth slowly; the glue will likely curl into a ball as it comes off your skin. You can use the dry end of the cotton swab to brush off the glue once it's removed. Repeat this action until all the glue has been removed.
Step 5. Pull the false eyelashes off
At this point, the false eyelashes will most likely fall off on their own. Use your fingers or tweezers to pull the false eyelashes off your eyelids. Remember that there is less risk of damaging the false eyelashes if you use tweezers to remove them. That's if you plan to use it again at another time.
Step 6. Clean your eyelids using a facial cleanser and water
To finish, rinse any remaining makeup remover, as well as any makeup or glue remover residue from your eyelids. Use a gentle facial cleanser and warm water to clean it, and wipe your eyelids dry.
Method 3 of 4: Using Oil
Step 1. Choose one type of oil
The oil will remove the glue used to attach the false eyelashes into place very easily, but will also coat the false eyelashes until they can no longer be used in the future. Therefore, you should only use oil to remove false eyelashes if you intend to throw them away immediately after use. The most effective types of oil to use are coconut oil, almond oil and baby oil.
Not all oils are suitable for use on the face. Choose the type of oil that is recommended for the face
Step 2. Pour a small amount of oil into your hands, then rub it on your eyelids
The oil naturally breaks down makeup, making it easier for you to remove it from your face. That's why you don't have to worry about removing your makeup before removing your lashes, and you don't have to worry about damaging your false lashes, since you'll be throwing them away. Splash your lids with warm water, then gently rub the oil over your lids and lash line to remove makeup. Sprinkle more water to remove makeup and reveal your lash line more clearly.
Step 3. Pull the false eyelashes off
Use your fingertips or tweezers to hold the false eyelashes as close to the lash line as possible. Starting from the inner corner, gently pull the lashes out of the eyelids. Gently pull until it reaches the outer corner of the eye, and the lashes are completely removed.
Step 4. Remove any glue residue from the lash line
After removing the false eyelashes, check your eyelids again for any traces of glue. Rub back a little oil, and clean the lash line until the glue comes off.
Step 5. Wash off any remaining oil and makeup
Use your favorite face wash and warm water to clean the rest of your face. Gently rub the soap on the skin until it lathers, focusing on areas where there is still makeup. Splash warm water on your face to get rid of the soap, and use a clean towel to dry your face.
Method 4 of 4: Cleaning Your False Eyelashes
Step 1. Find out if your false eyelashes can still be used again
False eyelashes don't always have to be thrown away after one use; if you clean and store them properly, it means that the false eyelashes can be reused several times, depending on the condition. If there are no missing parts of the false eyelashes, no bending along the lash line, and they are generally clean and well maintained, you can clean and reuse them in the future.
Step 2. Pour the makeup remover liquid into a small dish
Take out a small bowl or cup, and fill it with liquid oil-free makeup remover 1½ to 2½ cm high. The makeup remover will dissolve the mascara or eye makeup product from your false lashes, preparing them for the next use.
Step 3. Dip the false eyelashes in a bowl/plate, and soak them with makeup remover
Place the lashes in the saucer until they are fully submerged. Let it soak for 5-10 minutes, so that the cleaning liquid has a chance to dissolve all the cosmetic products that are still attached.
Step 4. Rinse the false eyelashes
Rinse carefully by pouring warm water slowly to remove makeup remover from eyelashes. Do not brush or rub the false eyelashes too hard, as this can cause the strands to fall out.
Step 5. Put the false eyelashes to dry
Place clean lashes on a dry tissue or towel, and let them dry on their own for 15-20 minutes. You can pat it gently with a tissue to absorb any excess water if your lashes are dry for too long.
Never store false eyelashes that are still wet because they can get moldy
Step 6. Store eyelashes well
Keep false eyelashes away from makeup storage bags that might collide with other equipment, and place them in a place where they won't be damaged. If you still have the original box, put it back in the box for storage. Otherwise, place the false eyelashes in a small bag or container, and store them in a dry place until the next use.
Tips
- You don't need to throw away false eyelashes after one use, especially if they are expensive. If you take good care of it, a set of eyelashes can be used up to 5-7 times.
- Cutting each lash in half not only gives you beautiful demi lashes, it also saves money and is even easier to remove. Use this method if you are new to false eyelashes or want a more natural look.
Warning
- Don't sleep wearing false eyelashes. The glue used is not meant to last very long, and you could lose those false eyelashes in bed!
- Be careful when using tweezers to remove false eyelashes. Sharp objects and eyes are not a good combination.
