If you want to use cheats on the Sims, you'll need to open a cheat window or "console". This window allows players to enter commands that will activate cheats. If you're playing on a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, you'll need to activate a cheat, then use a special item to access it.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Opening Cheats Window on PC and Mac
Step 1. Press
Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C while the game is still running.
This will open a small window called "console," where you can enter cheats.
Console keyboard shortcuts are the same for all Windows versions of the Sims and Mac. If you're playing with a Mac, make sure to hold down the Control key, and no Commands.
Step 2. Type in the cheat you want to use
Once the console screen opens, you can type the cheat you want to use and press Enter or Return to run it. To find out the various Sims cheats for all PC and Mac versions, read the section below.
Step 3. Try pressing
Ctrl+⊞ Win+⇧ Shift+C (only for PC).
If the Ctrl+⇧ Shift+C method doesn't work on a Windows computer, try pressing Ctrl+⊞ Win+⇧ Shift+C. This is usually caused by another program, such as a screen recording program, taking over the usual console shortcuts.
Step 4. Try using the button
Ctrl other. If the shortcut doesn't work with the left Ctrl key, try using the one on the right side of the keyboard.
Step 5. Connect another keyboard
Sometimes there is a problem with the Ctrl key on the keyboard, and using a different keyboard can solve the problem. Insert the keyboard's USB connection and try entering the shortcut. This solution usually works for most MacBooks.
Step 6. Check the keyboard layout
If the keyboard is set to a non-latin layout, such as Japanese or Korean, the cheats may not be entered correctly. Try changing the keyboard layout, then try again:
- Windows – Open Control Panel and select "Language". Click "Advanced settings", then click the drop-down menu in the "Override for default input method" option. Choose a Latin-based input method, such as English.
- Mac - Click the Apple menu and select "System Preferences". Select "Keyboard" and click "Input Sources". Click the "+" button, then a Latin-based input source, such as English. After that, you can switch between input sources by clicking the flag button in the Mac menu bar.
Part 2 of 3: Enabling The Sims 3 Cheat on PS3 and Xbox 360
Step 1. Pause the game
The game needs to be paused to enable Cheat Mode. Press the Start button to pause the game and open the Pause menu.
Step 2. Press the cheat code combination button
Press and hold the following buttons simultaneously to activate Cheat Mode:
- PlayStation 3 - L1 + L2 + R1 + R2
- Xbox 360 - LB + LT + RB + RT
Step 3. Confirm the deactivation of Trophies/Achievements
Enabling Cheat Mode will turn off earning Trophies or Achievements. If you want to continue, select " I understand. Let the cheating begin!"
Step 4. Save a copy of the game when prompted
When you can activate the cheat, Trophies or Achievements can no longer be found in the save file. By making a saved copy of the game, you can play two different games: one without cheats so you can get Trophies or Achievements, and another one using cheats but not getting Trophies or Achievements.
Step 5. Read the cheat explanation
After creating a save file for a normal game, the cheat will be activated. A dialog window will appear on the screen explaining how to access cheats.
Step 6. Open Build & Buy mode
In order to use the cheats, you'll need Spoot the Llama, which is available for free in the Decor section of Build & Buy mode. Press the Select (PS3) or Back (360) button to open the mode selector and select "Build & Buy".
Step 7. Select "Buy", "Decor", then "Miscellaneous Decor"
You'll see Spoot the Magic Llama at the top of the screen.
Step 8. Purchase Spoot the Magic Llama
Spoot can be obtained for free so you just have to "buy" it to be able to use it.
Step 9. Place Spot on the home page
You can put the Spot anywhere on the page. Place it in an easily accessible location because you will use it every time you will use a cheat.
Step 10. Return to Live mode
After you put the Spoot, press the Select (PS3) or Back (360) button and return to Live mode. This allows you to interact with Spot and use it as a cheat.
Step 11. Select Spot and enter cheat
When selecting Spoot on the home page, a menu will appear. You can choose from a variety of cheats, including free money, maximum karma, happiness points, and more.
Step 12. Hold down L2 or LT key and select a Sim
New options unlocked when turning on cheats will appear. You can change your Sim's age or transfer it to an active family you own.
- You can also hold down the L2 or LT keys and select a mailbox to make everyone in the house happy, freeze their needs, force guests or NPCs to come, make friends, and much more.
- If you hold down the L2 or LT button, then click on an empty lot, the Sim will automatically move to that point.
Part 3 of 3: Cheats for PC and Mac
Step 1. Enter cheats for Sims 1
The following codes are common cheats for The Sims. You can search for much more online:
- rosebud - This cheat gives 1000 dollars in game.
- move_objects on - This cheat lets you extend your house to the street, and also removes Sims. However, if a Sim is accidentally deleted, you can simply double-click on its image at the bottom of the screen to bring it back up.
- ;!; - This simple cheat is one of the most useful codes to earn money. After entering “rosebud” once, copy and paste the code ";!;" into the cheat box until you hear a crashing sound, which indicates the text box is full. Hit Enter to instantly receive approximately $120,000 of the game. You can repeat this cheat as many times as you want.
Step 2. Enter cheats for Sims 2
This cheat works for The Sims 2 and can be useful for getting a lot of money quickly, or moving objects to locations that would normally be illegal:
- kaching – Gives 1000 simoleons.
- motherlode – Grants 5,000 simoleons.
- moveobjects on – Allows you to place objects wherever you want, for example putting a cupboard through your Sim. You can also remove items that are not normally allowed, such as housework, dirty food, cockroaches and trash.
- boolprop testingcheatsenabled true – Tests cheats used by game developers. Hold down Shift while clicking the mailbox, or Sim to provide options such as toggle zit so that NPCs can be selected, and more! You can also shift the relationship level and Sim needs.
- (Requires Open for Business expansion pack) sethour x – Set the game hours according to the value typed in x. For example, sethour 7 will set the game time to 7:00 am, sethour 13 will set the clock to 1:00 pm. This cheat is useful when you come home from a public place.
- (Requires Open for Business) maxmotives – Maximizes the needs of every Sim on the ground.
- (Requires Open for Business) motivedecay off – Prevents parsing sim needs.
Step 3. Enter cheats for Sims 3
Enter the following codes to activate cheats in Sims 3. Use them to earn money quickly, teleport characters, and more.
- testingcheatsenabled true – Hold down Shift while clicking the ground, then click teleport here, and your Sim will automatically move! Additionally, when you hold down Shift while clicking the mailbox, the cheat will provide a list of options including "make needs static" so the requirement parameter never drops! You can also shift the motive (motive) and relationship Sim bars to the maximum!
- kaching – Gives 1000 simoleons.
- motherlode – Grants 50,000 simoleons.
Step 4. Enter the cheat code for Sims 4
Use these cheats to teleport, earn money and more:
- testingcheats true – Many cheats will not work if this cheat is not activated first. Hold down Shift while clicking the mailbox and you are still given options such as "disable need decay" which prevents the requirement parameter from dropping. If done on the ground, you can teleport. If you do it to a Sim, you will make him happy. If you do it on an object that can get dirty, you can make it dirty or clean.
- kaching – Gives 1000 simoleons.
- motherlode – Gives the household 50,000 simoleons.
- careers.promote job – Replace jobs with all the jobs in the game, for example writer. Jobs consisting of two words should be written as one, for example secretagent. This cheat will promote you by one level.
