The Ouija is a flat wooden board with letters from A to Z, numbers from 0 to 9, and a symbol of the Sun and Moon. A moving indicator or a “planchette” is used to “should” answer questions asked by players. In its time of popularity (especially in the 1920s), the Ouija board was considered a “spirit gateway” used to contact the dead; however, the only evidence of this is the testimonies of its users--never any scientific evidence. Decide for yourself -- do you want to try playing Ouija?

Method 1 of 3: Create the Ambiance
Step 1. Invite some friends
Technically, Ouija can be played alone, but is best played with at least one other person. Especially on a dark stormy night.
Ideally two people. The more people there are, the more chaotic the game will be (noisy, distracting, etc.) and you may confuse the spirits. More than two is fine too--just make sure everyone is calm and respectful
Step 2. Create the atmosphere
Before you start contacting the “other world”, you may want to get into an appropriate setting by dimming the lights, lighting candles, incense, and burning frankincense.

- Eliminate all distractions. There should be no loud music, noise from the television, or children running around. Spirit encounters require your undivided attention to succeed.
- Turn off your phone! Receiving a phone call in the middle of a conversation with a spirit disrupts the process and atmosphere.
Step 3. Sit down
The original instructions for the Ouija game say to place the Ouija board on the knees of both players, with their knees touching. In addition, it also states, “A woman and a man are preferred.” So, just do it without any specific purpose.
- Do it on an empty table or on the floor too. As long as everyone can see clearly and keep the fingers on the planchette, or pointer.
- The players should be on either side of the board or at the bottom of the board; sometimes the planchette moves quickly and the letters need to be processed and sorted quickly. Seeing the board upside down can confuse players in reading the answer message.

Step 1. Be patient
Sometimes a Ouija board takes time to get ready. You may not get an answer right away. Do not give up.

Step 3. Start simple
It's best not to bombard your spirit with questions about the content and length of your next history review. Start with something simple, like a normal conversation.

- How many spirits are there in the room?
- Are you a good spirit?
- What is your name?
Step 4. Be careful with your request
The last thing you want is to stay up all night thinking about your imminent death. If you don't want to know the answer to a question, don't ask.
- Don't ask silly or stupid questions. "What did Billy say to his little sister about me?" is not something that is important for your spirit to answer. Not to mention, how long is the spelling of the answer!
- Don't ask for physical signs. It's just asking for trouble. What's more, those with whom you communicate may not be able to do so. It's best to keep the game on the Ouija board.
- Don't believe everything the Ouija board says. If the sign says you're going to die in ten minutes, don't run in front of the bus. That means you fulfilled the prophecy, not the prophecy being correct.
Method 3 of 3: Playing Ouija
Step 1. Choose a medium
Choose one person to ask all the questions. Keep things simple and prevent the rest of the world from getting confused.

Step 2. Place your fingers on the planchette
Planchette is on the letter “G” on the board to begin with.

- Have the medium greet the spirit and ensure that only positive energy is welcomed.
- Surround the board with ornaments or heirlooms. If you want to talk to a deceased relative, keep something of his or her near the board.
Step 4. Ask a question
This should start with something simple and work your way up as you get more settled in the session.
- If your spirit indicates that he is evil, it is best to close the game and resume later.
- If you start to get a rude or obscene response, don't respond with rudeness on your part. But you should not start using obscene words. And don't scream if you get too scared, just say goodbye to the spirits and you're done.
Step 5. Concentration
To get the best and most effective results, all players need to clear their minds and focus on the questions asked.
- Everyone who plays needs to sit down seriously and respectfully. If you have friends who laugh or suggest silly questions, send them out of the room.
- As the planchette moves, you may want to ask someone to serve as a writer. Sometimes the responses can be quite long, and need processing.
Step 6. Watch the planchette move
Sometimes the planchette moves quickly, and sometimes it's slow; Every now and then, the planchette didn't move at all. But if everyone is focused and attentive, the planchette usually slowly begins to move.
Make sure no player dominates the planchette. If it's clear the reason the planchette is moving is because a player is moving it, it's best if she doesn't play ouija. Each player should distribute the weight equally on the pointer
Step 7. Close the game
If the planchette starts making a “figure eight” move, or moves backwards from Z to A, or from 9 to 0, end the session by moving goodbye. The occurrence of any of these three indicates that the spirit is trying to escape from the board. It is very important to say goodbye to spirits. You'd hate it if you suddenly left him, wouldn't you?

Have the medium state that it's time to end the encounter with the spirit and slide the planchette over to the 'GOODBYE' symbol on the board.

- Before you store the Ouija board, clean it with a dry, soft cloth. This keeps the board clean and prevents dust and moisture from accumulating.
Tips
- If at any time you feel scared or feel the session is starting to go too far, just close the game by moving the pointer over “Goodbye” and saying, “We're leaving now. Rest in peace."
- To prevent summoning evil spirits, place silver coins on the board. This way, no evil spirits or demons will bother you.
- Ouija will work only if your mind is open to it; don't expect results if your energy is negative and not open to things like this.
- Light a white candle. White in magic is used for protection and purity, although black is used for energy, black is also used for darkness, evil, and black magic.
- The sun and moon images identify the type of spirit that is contacting you. If it comes from the sun, the spirit is good, if it comes from the moon, the spirit is evil. If you get an evil spirit, thank the spirit for the time, and say goodbye. When the planchette lands in goodbye, it means the evil spirit has left.
- Before you start the session, sit in a circle holding hands, and say, “There shall be no power of evil or demons.”
- If the pointer continues to move to the number eight, it means the spirit is angry. Eight was considered an unlucky number after “Wild Bill” Hickok was killed holding aces and eights. Somehow, this superstition appears in the Ouija legend. Don't worry about this unless you're a shooter and using your Ouija board in Deadwood, South Dakota.
- Many people may tell you that buying a Ouija board is a waste of money, and that you are better off making your own Ouija board. When creating your own Ouija board, you will need to write down: yes, no, the numbers 0-9, the letters A-Z, and Goodbye. You can also add other words like “maybe” or “sometimes” to the side of the board. Of course, there are always online Ouija boards.

- NEVER ask about your or anyone else's death.
