The kickflip is another basic trick that you can do once you're able to do the ollie while skateboarding. When doing this kickflip, you must ollie first, then use your front foot to kick the front of the skateboard while you are in the air until your skateboard rotates before you finally land. It may be very difficult to do it the first time, but if you are good at it, then you will be able to do other tricks.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Learn to Kickflip
Step 1. Preparation
Before you kickflip, you must first feel comfortable skateboarding.
- You must first identify each part of a skateboard, how to balance your body, and how to ollie.
- You can practice kickflips either while walking on your skateboard or standing still. It all depends on your comfort to do it.
- Some people find it easier to do it while in a walking position, but not a few also find it easier to do it in a still position.
Step 2. Set the foot placement
The first thing before you do that is that you need to know the correct footing if you want to kickflip:
- Your front foot should be placed behind the truck bolt on your skateboard at a 45-degree angle to the front.
- The back foot should be placed at the end of your skateboard (the tail).
Step 3. Ollie
Then do the ollie trick, if you forget how to do it, below is the way:
- Bend your knees.
- Press the tail of the skateboard using the back foot, and the front foot following the direction of the front of the skateboard.
- Do the ollie as high as possible so you can kickflip well.
Step 4. Use the front foot to turn the skateboard
While in the air, perform a kick using your front foot to the corner of the front of the skateboard. If you manage to do that then the skateboard will spin.
-
This move is a little tricky, so make sure you understand how to do it before you start practicing right away. Make sure you kick your skateboard pointing up so you can do it successfully.
- Don't kick the skateboard too hard or you'll make the skateboard fly away. So make sure to ollie high enough first if you want to kickflip well.
Step 5. Catch the skateboard using the back foot first then use the front foot
Once the skateboard is completely spinning in the air, use your back foot to catch the skateboard and then use your front foot to balance your body.
- You have to pay attention when the skateboard is spinning, you have to catch it right when the board finishes spinning.
- Another thing you should pay attention to is to keep your shoulders to help balance the body when landing.
Step 6. Bend your knees as you land
This is very important to balance your body when landing.
In addition, bending your knees is useful so that you can more easily control the skateboard
Part 2 of 2: Kickflip Variations
Step 1. Keep practicing
Kickflip is not an easy trick, you have to practice often to do it smoothly. You may fail on the first try, but if you keep practicing you will be able to do it well and smoothly.
Step 2. Perform a double kickflip
To do this, you'll need to rotate the skateboard more than a regular kickflip. You have to do this by kicking the skateboard harder.
Step 3. Perform a variable kickflip
The varial kickflip is a combination of the kickflip trick and the shove-it trick. Where the board will rotate 180 degrees after rotating in the air.
Step 4. Perform the body varial kickflip trick
The body varial kickflip trick is a trick to turn your body 180 degrees when you do a kickflip.
Step 5. Perform the indy kickflip trick
The indy kickflip is a trick where when you kickflip you catch the skateboard before it lands.
Step 6. Perform the kickflip underflip trick
Kickflip underflip is a trick that is quite difficult, where you have to change the position of your skateboard after you kickflip. Keep practicing if you want to master this trick.
Suggestion
- Keep calm and keep practicing. You won't be able to kickflip on the first try, so you'll have to keep practicing patiently in order to do it.
- There are no specific rules for the position of the foot for kickflips. Do it in a position that is most comfortable for you to do it.
Attention
When you practice kickflips, your skateboard may hit a part of your body. But don't give up because it is the art of practicing skateboarding so you can become an expert in skateboarding
