Shrimp is a seafood that can be eaten with a variety of spices and sauces. Shrimp cooks quickly, making it a great choice for dinner or any other meal you need to prepare quickly. Shrimp is delicious boiled, sauteed or grilled.
Step
Step 1. Choose fresh or frozen shrimp
Most markets sell both.
- If you choose fresh shrimp, the flesh should be clear white and the shell should be a light gray color. Make sure the shrimp you choose don't leak liquid.
- Frozen prawns are either cooked or uncooked. The cooking method in this article is for uncooked shrimp.
Step 2. Choose shrimp with or without shell
The prawns are often peeled before being sold. If you buy shrimp with shells, you will have to peel them yourself.
- Shrimp can be peeled before and after cooking. Many people find that peeling cooked shrimp is easier to do. Cooking with shrimp shells can also add flavor to food.
- To peel prawns, grab the ends of the legs and pull. Open the shell on the back of the shrimp and remove it.
- Shrimp shells can be used to make shrimp stock.
Step 3. Take the shrimp vessels
Take the shrimp vessels after they have been peeled. It will be easier to do this on uncooked shrimp.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the back of the shrimp. This slice will open the dark vessels inside the shrimp, which is the digestive tract. Use your fingers, or a fork to lift these vessels and then discard them.
- These veins are not unhealthy to eat, but some people prefer not to eat them.
Method 1 of 3: Boiling Shrimp
Step 1. Prepare the prawns
Remove the shrimp from the refrigerator about 20 minutes before cooking. Rinse with cold water and leave for a while at room temperature.
Shrimp can be boiled before or after being peeled
Step 2. Fill the pot with enough water to completely cover the prawns
Step 3. Bring the water to a boil over high heat
Step 4. Put the prawns in the pan
Make sure it is completely submerged.
Step 5. Let the prawns simmer for 1 to 2 minutes
As the water begins to heat up again, watch for bubbles that start to appear. These bubbles usually appear after 1 or 2 minutes, depending on the amount of water you boil. When you see bubbles on the surface of the water, remove the pan from the heat.
Step 6. Cover the pot and leave the prawns in it
Keep the prawns submerged in the hot water to allow the cooking process to continue for 5 to 10 minutes, depending on the size of the shrimp. Shrimp will turn pink when cooked.
Step 7. Remove the prawns
Pour the prawns into a colander to remove them. Serve warm.
If you don't peel the prawns before cooking, you can serve them in the shell and let people peel them while they eat, or peel them after cooking and serve them after peeling
Method 2 of 3: Sauteed Shrimp
Step 1. Prepare the prawns
Take the prawns out of the fridge and rinse them in cold water. Shake to remove any remaining water in the shrimp.
- Peel the prawns if you want to cook them without the shells.
- Leave the shell if you want to peel it once it's cooked.
Step 2. Heat a frying pan over medium heat
Add a tablespoon of oil and spread evenly on the surface of the frying pan.
Step 3. Add the prawns
Spread it out in a single layer on top of the frying pan, making sure that no shrimp overlap each other.
Step 4. Cook shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes
The part of the shrimp that touches the frying pan will turn pink.
Step 5. Flip the shrimp and cook the rest
Make sure each of your prawns turn. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the prawns turn pink. The prawns are finished cooking once they turn a bright pink color and the flesh is milky white.
Step 6. Remove the prawns
Serve warm.
Method 3 of 3: Grilled Shrimp
Step 1. Prepare the grill
Turn on charcoal or medium to high heat.
Step 2. Prepare the prawns
Take the prawns out of the fridge and rinse them in cold water. Shake to remove any remaining water from the prawns.
Step 3. Skewer the prawns
Insert the skewer through the tail and the thickest part of the shrimp near the head.
- Both metal and wooden skewers can be used. If you are using a wooden skewer, soak it in water for 10 minutes before using it to pierce the shrimp. That way, the wooden skewer won't burn.
- Try adding chopped onions, and red and green peppers and other vegetables along with the prawns to a single skewer.
Step 4. Coat the prawns with oil
Lightly coat the prawns with olive oil on both sides, season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 5. Place the skewered prawns on the grill
Cook one side for 3-4 minutes. Flip and cook the other half for 3-4 minutes as well. The shrimp is ready to be served after it turns pink and the meat is milky white.
Step 6. Remove the prawns
Remove prawns from skewers and serve hot.

Tips
- Electric burners can retain heat even after being turned off. When you use this method, you should transfer the pan to a cold container.
- Do not thaw shrimp by submerging them in water.
- If you need to defrost the shrimp quickly, soak the sealed bag in a large bowl of water at room temperature long enough to soften. Transfer the bag to the refrigerator until it thaws.
