If you want to enjoy a luxurious bathing experience, add some bath salts while you bathe. Buy or make your own bath salts using the type of salt you prefer. Use salt as is or mix it with dyes and essential oils for a specific scent. If you want to know more about using bath salts, you can try them in the shower or as a body scrub. Store bath salts in an airtight container and use them whenever your skin starts to feel dry.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Adding Salt to the Bath
Step 1. Select the bath salts you want to use
You can buy or make your own bath salts. Most bath salt products are made from Epsom salt or Dead Sea salt. You can also look for products containing pink sea salt, Dendritic salt, or Icelandic Geothermal Brine salt. The product you have may feel smooth or rough, depending on your preferred texture.
For simple bath salts, you can use coloring agents and unscented Epsom salts
Step 2. Fill the soaking tub half full and add the bath salts
Install the tub plug and drain the hot water. Fill the soaking tub halfway with water as hot as desired, then add 120 grams of prepared bath salt. For a stronger concentration, you can add more salt.
For a therapeutic bath, use 240-480 grams of Epsom salt. High levels of magnesium in salt can relieve muscle pain
Step 3. Stir the salt in the water
Use your hands to stir the water in the tub until the salt dissolves. Fine-textured bath salts dissolve faster than coarse-textured, rocky salts.
Step 4. Fill the tub with more water
Reopen the hot water tap and fill the tub with as much water as desired. Dip your hand in the water to check the temperature. Even if the temperature is hot, the water should still feel comfortable against the skin.
Step 5. Soak for at least 10 minutes
Get into the tub and breathe in the hot steam while soaking. To get the full benefits of salt, soak it for at least 10 minutes. Keep soaking as long as desired before the tub is emptied.
- Ask your doctor about the acceptable frequency of bath salts, especially if you have certain medical conditions.
- If the salt contains oil, be careful when it comes out of the tub. Oil can make the bottom of the tub feel slippery.
Method 2 of 3: Using Bath Salts in Different Ways
Step 1. Enjoy the detox bath
To cleanse and remove toxins from the body, soak in a mixture of Epsom salts. This salt contains magnesium and sulfate which removes heavy metals from the body and speeds up the skin's recovery process. Dissolve 240-720 grams of Epsom salt in hot water, then soak for 10-40 minutes.
Step 2. Dissolve Epsom salt to relieve muscle pain
Pour 480 grams of Epsom salt into the hot water and shake the water to dissolve the salt. Soak the sore muscle in water for at least 15-20 minutes. Magnesium levels in salt can relax the body's muscles.
Add up to 15 drops of essential oil known to relax muscles. These oils include essential oils of wintergreen, basil, bergamot, rosemary, lavender, peppermint, and Douglas fir
Step 3. Relieve inflammation and irritation of the skin
If you have skin problems such as psoriasis, rash, or eczema, soak in an Epsom salt mixture. Magnesium levels in salt can relieve inflammation and itching. Fill a soaking tub with water and dissolve 240-720 grams of Epsom salt. Soak the irritated skin area for at least 20 minutes to fully absorb the benefits of salt.
Always moisturize your skin after bathing to keep it moisturized
Step 4. Mix salt with scrub to slough off dead skin cells
Put 240 grams of Dead Sea salt in a bowl and add 80-160 ml of oil of your choice (eg sweet almond, coconut, grapeseed or olive oil). Add 12 drops of essential oil and 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of vitamin E oil. Stir the mixture until it forms a paste that you can rub on your skin in the shower. Rinse the body to remove the mixture from the skin and enjoy the feeling of softer skin after bathing.
You can store your bath scrub in an airtight plastic container. Make sure water doesn't get into the container when you open it in the shower area to prevent bacteria from contaminating the scrub
Step 5. Make a foot bath to relieve foot pain
If you don't have enough time to fill the tub (or space if you don't have one in the bathroom), fill a large bucket with hot water three-quarters full. Add 120 Epsom salts and stir until dissolved. Sit down and put both feet in the bucket. Soak the feet for 10 minutes.
Don't soak your feet in the salt water mixture if you have diabetes. Soaking can dry out your feet and cause cracked skin that can lead to infection
Method 3 of 3: Enriching Bath Experience
Step 1. Add color to the salt
If you want to add color to your bath, mix a few drops of liquid or gel food coloring into 360 grams of bath salt. Just add a few drops to prevent the salt from dissolving and add more dye until you get the color you want.
If you want to make salt of different colors, separate the salt for each color in a separate container because the coloring agents can mix with each other when the salt is stored
Step 2. Add essential oil if desired
If you're using unscented Epsom salt or Dead Sea salt, add 6-12 drops of your favorite essential oil for every 360 grams of salt. Since this oil is highly concentrated, use a small amount first and add more if necessary. You can use only one type of oil or make a combination of oils to treat skin problems or improve mood.
- For example, for a refreshing bath experience, add grapefruit, bergamot, and peppermint essential oils.
- If you have acne-prone skin, add a few drops of tea tree, geranium, or lavender essential oil.
Step 3. Add baking soda for softer skin
Sprinkle 45-180 grams of baking soda into a soaking tub filled with water. Soak in the tub for 20-30 minutes and be careful when you get out of the tub as the baking soda can leave a slippery residue.
Baking soda can smooth the skin and remove chlorine from the water
Step 4. Add the dried herbs to the bath salts
Take 2 tablespoons (3-4 grams) of selected dried herbs and add them to 720 grams of bath salt. Use dried herbs to improve your mood, add fragrance to a water bath, or treat skin conditions. Mix any of the following popular dried herbs into your salt:
- lavender
- Min
- Rosmarin
- Chamomile
- Rose petals
