Having a big nose isn't something to be ashamed of, but if you're feeling a little uncomfortable, there are some visual tricks and techniques you can use to disguise it. Contouring and other makeup tricks are among the most common, but to maximize the effect, consider your hairstyle and accessories as well.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Creating Contours
Step 1. Use a facial toner
Begin the contouring process by applying a small amount of facial toner to clean skin so that the glow of the face radiates from within.
- Starting with a clean face is an absolute necessity.
- Contouring is a makeup application technique that plays a natural shadow on the face. Depending on how you apply the contour, certain areas of the face may appear smaller or larger. By applying the contour using the steps below, you can make your nose appear smaller.
Step 2. Smooth the face with ordinary foundation
If you don't already have a regular foundation, choose one that matches your natural skin tone. Apply it all over the face, including the nose.
To maintain makeup, use a primer before foundation
Step 3. Apply dark foundation to the sides of the nose
Choose a foundation that is a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone. Dab this foundation to the sides of the nose, then blend.
- If you have a long and big nose, you should also apply this foundation to the tip of your nose.
- The most important part of this whole contouring process is the blending process. Use a makeup brush or sponge to blend this dark foundation with the natural shade of foundation underneath. When you're done, this dark foundation should look like a natural shadow and not look like makeup.
- You can use solid or liquid foundation.
Step 4. Use a lighter color on the bridge of the nose
Choose a third foundation that is one shade lighter than your natural skin tone. Apply this foundation to the top of the bridge of the nose, starting from the part between the eyes and ending at the part before the tip and nostrils.
- This foundation accentuates the midline of the nose, making the “shadow” you create with dark foundation more effective.
- As before, you need to blend this foundation with natural and dark color foundations as evenly as possible. Switching between foundation colors should look seamless and natural.
Step 5. Apply a light loose powder on the sides of the nose
Choose a non-shiny loose powder and brush it all over the sides of your nose.
- This loose powder can help cover any lines or imperfections in your foundation, giving your makeup a more natural look.
- Make sure you use a non-shiny loose powder. A shimmery powder draws more attention to whatever it touches, so if you put sparkling powder on your nose, you're only making your nose stand out more.
Method 2 of 4: Additional Cosmetic Tricks
Step 1. Highlight the eyes or lips
One of the best ways to disguise your nose is to make the rest of your face stand out. Wearing bold eye makeup or a bold lip color will draw attention to your eyes or lips more than any other part of your face, including your nose.
- If you choose to accentuate your eyes, make them pop by wearing dark eye shadow and mascara. Light or bold eye shadows are also great for an evening look but should be avoided during the day.
- If you choose to accentuate your lips, use a light or bold lipstick color. A lip color with a hint of shimmer is also great for dabbing.
- Highlight only one part of the face. Applying heavy makeup on the eyes and lips can make the face look excessive.
Step 2. Make a light emphasis on the cheekbones
Apart from accentuating your lips or eyes, you can balance your nose by making your cheekbones stand out more.
- Choose a blush that is a shade or two darker than your natural skin tone and apply it to your cheekbones. A more shimmery blush works great because it accentuates the skin more than a less shimmery blush.
- You can also apply bronzer (cosmetic to make the face look alive) a light color along the cheekbones to make them appear more shiny and prominent.
Step 3. Don't make the skin look shiny
You need to make the nose so that it doesn't look shiny. Glitter catches the eye and draws more attention to the nose, so nose glitter will make the nose appear bigger.
- The most important thing to do is to remove as much oil from the nose as possible. Use a gentle facial cleanser on the nose every morning and night. Rough facial cleansers can irritate the skin, making it produce more oil. Throughout the day, rub some of the oil that collects on your nose with a tissue or cosmetic oil absorbent paper.
- Be sure to use toner and moisturizer after you wash your face.
- When applying makeup to the nose, use a matte formula instead of a shimmery formula.
Method 3 of 4: Hairstyle
Step 1. Let the hair grow
Medium and long hairstyles are better than short hair. Short hairstyles frame the face and accentuate the nose, making it look bigger. Medium and long haircuts balance the parts of the face, making them appear smaller.
Step 2. Make a layered haircut
Blunt hairstyles create straighter vertical lines and accentuate the larger straight lines on the face---the nose. Create a layered haircut to create a softer, more rounded appearance.
Although layers are better than blunt hairstyles, the feathery layer is best. The texture of this hairstyle is soft and wavy, so it balances the straight nose line
Step 3. Add waves or curls to the hair
Usually, adding waves and curls of hair will separate and balance the firm lines of the face. The bridge of the nose is the longest and most visible line on the face.
Use diffuser hair rollers (hair rollers that protect hair from direct heat) or curling irons to add a wavy texture to your hair
Step 4. Avoid neat ponytails
A neat and tight ponytail can make parts of the face appear sharper and more defined. As a result, the angle and size of the nose will appear more prominent.
If you put your hair in a ponytail or high ponytail, choose a slightly messy style. Put your hair in a ponytail in the middle and let a few strands of hair fall, forming a thin curve of the face
Step 5. Part your hair to the side
The center of the hair will fall directly over the nose, extending the straight line of the nose and drawing more attention to that part of the face.
On the other hand, the hair that is parted to the side balances the lines of the face, separating them and making the nose less prominent
Step 6. Play with the bangs
Bangs can help disguise a big nose, but basically you should avoid bangs that fall at a straight, sharp angle. Straight lines of hair will only draw attention towards straight lines of the nose.
If you have bangs, consider side bangs that separate the corners of your face or thin bangs that soften the lines of your face
Step 7. Keep hair away from face
While bangs can be used, keeping your hair away from your face is really helpful, especially if you don't like the look of bangs with your face shape.
- The purpose of this method is to balance the parts of the face. If the hair covers the forehead or the sides of the face, then these parts of the face do not stand out while the nose is very visible. As a result, the nose looks more dominant on the face. Keeping your hair away from your face can prevent this from happening.
- Therefore, men who want to disguise their big nose should avoid mustaches and beards. Covering too much facial skin can make the nose stand out more.
Method 4 of 4: Accessories
Step 1. Choose glasses with a wide and low bridge
The low bridge of the glasses will divide the long vertical line of the nose more evenly, so the lower part of the nose - the part where the eye catches naturally - will appear smaller. The wide bridge creates a stronger and more visible division.
- Larger glasses are usually a better choice than smaller glasses. Large glasses can compete with the size of the nose and help balance it, but small glasses can draw attention to the size of the nose.
- Another option is to use contact lenses. Since the glasses are perched at the top of the nose, they will draw attention to that area of the face. Using contact lenses can avoid this problem.
Step 2. Wear big earrings
The ears and nose have equal horizontal space on the face. Earrings that are short and petite can draw attention to this horizontal space, which can also draw attention towards the nose. Large earrings that reach below the ear can enlarge the sides of this horizontal space, making the nose in the center of this space appear smaller in comparison.
- If you don't want to wear long earrings, choose short earrings that at least completely cover the ear lobes. This will draw more attention to the sides of the horizontal space, which can help distract from the nose.
- Round earrings that occupy both horizontal and vertical space are better than earrings that only add vertical dimension. Earrings that feature straight, vertical lines will also accentuate the straight and vertical lines of the nose.
Step 3. Choose a hat with a prominent brim
Men and women should look for hat styles that have rounded edges or bend down in front of the face. The brim of the hat that hangs in front of the face can visually make the forehead wide. As a result, the nose appears shorter and more proportional.
- Avoid “tricorne” hats (hats with a brim that bends up on three sides), which come together at a point above the forehead.
- A hat that has a brim that is larger in the front than at the back can create a wider forehead than a hat with a completely flat brim.
- Make sure the center of the hat is not gripping too tightly towards the front of the face. Ideally, the center of this hat should also be of medium height to maintain better visual balance and not narrow towards the top.
- Consider choosing a hat with a wide, colorful band wrapped around the brim. This tape can draw the eye upward and avoid attention to the nose.
