If your toilet is clogged and doesn't have a plunger, don't panic! You can use a variety of household items to unblock the toilet so it can function again.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Using a Mop Stick
Step 1. Wrap the end of the mop stick with a plastic bag
Pull the plastic bag over the end of the mop stick. Then, tie tightly with a rubber band so that the plastic bag is firmly attached.
Step 2. Stick the mop stick into the toilet
Use a strong up and down motion like using a regular suction stick.
Step 3. Continue to poke until the blockage in the toilet is opened
You may need to poke for several minutes before the blockage opens. If so, throw away the plastic bag that wrapped the end of the mop stick.
Method 2 of 4: Unclogging with Clothes Hanger
Step 1. Bend the metal hanger into a curve
Use metal hangers covered in plastic, if possible, as they won't scratch the toilet. If you don't have one, use tape to wrap the wire
Step 2. Push the wire down the toilet drain and try to unblock it
Don't press too hard as it can scratch the toilet.
Step 3. Continue to push the wire down the toilet drain until the blockage is opened
Maybe you need to work for a few minutes. If so, remove the hanger or clean it thoroughly.
Method 3 of 4: Using a Toilet Brush
Step 1. Wrap the end of the toilet brush with a plastic bag
Pull the plastic bag over the brush tip, then tie it with a rubber band to secure it.
Step 2. Use the tip of the toilet brush to poke the toilet
Use an up and down motion like using a regular suction stick.
Step 3. Continue until the toilet clog opens
It usually takes a few minutes before the blockage opens. When the toilet is running smoothly, remove the plastic bag from the end of the brush and throw the plastic bag away.
Method 4 of 4: Using Baking Soda and Vinegar
Step 1. Mix the baking soda and vinegar in a balanced ratio (50:50) in a large bowl
Baking soda and plain white vinegar will suffice. Once mixed, the solution will start to hiss.
Step 2. Pour the baking soda and vinegar mixture on the clogged toilet
This sizzling solution will help break down whatever is clogging the toilet.
Step 3. Let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes and flush the toilet
After 5-10 minutes, the toilet should be smooth again. If the toilet is still clogged, add more vinegar and baking soda to the toilet and wait a little longer.
