Braces or denture retainers can be used as part of a costume. These can also be used if you like the look of your braces, but don't need them. You can make braces and denture retainers with bobby pins, wax, and earring caps. Even if these products can be used for a short time, remember that you should not use them as a substitute for real braces if you do need orthodontic treatment. You should also not wear dentures for a long time because they can damage your teeth and gums.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Making False Braces
Step 1. Prepare the necessary materials
Before making dentures, you need to collect some materials. Making dentures requires::
- Hairpin
- Small rubber band
- Butterfly earring
- Tang
- Scissors
- Colorful rubber, if you want to make colored braces
- Hot glue gun
Step 2. Bend the bobby pin until it forms a 90 degree angle
For starters, straighten your bobby pins. Fold it outwards until it forms a 90 degree angle. Hair clips are not strong. So you should be able to do this with your own hands.
Step 3. Straighten the hair clips with pliers
You should straighten the bobby pin as neatly as possible. This will help your braces look realistic. Use the pliers to form a straight line with the hair clips. After that, use pliers to smooth out any bends or parts that aren't straight.
- Be patient. This may take some time, depending on the condition of the bobby pins.
- The straighter your hairpin, the more realistic your dentures will be when they fit in your mouth.
Step 4. Wash and dry your bobby pins
Once the bobby pins form a straight line, wash the item with antibacterial soap and warm water. Since the bobby pin will be in your mouth, you'll want to make sure it's clean. The pliers are usually quite dirty. If so, let the hair clips sit until they feel dry to the touch. The size of the hairpin is not big. So, this shouldn't take long.
Step 5. Bend the bobby pin in a U shape until it fits in your mouth
From here, use your fingers to bend the bobby pin into a U-shape that fits in your mouth. This will help you place the bobby pin in your mouth and adjust it to the shape of your upper teeth. Make sure the curve is smooth to make the braces look more realistic.
Step 6. Attach the earring cap to the hair clip with the flat side facing your teeth
Now, you need to attach the earring cap to the hair clip. Place about four earring caps on the bobby pins with the caps facing your teeth. You will need to place the earring caps in such a way that they fit in front of the teeth. You will need to try placing the bobby pin in your mouth to estimate the position of the earring cap. This takes quite a bit of time because the earring cover slips very easily. Be patient. Give each earring the same distance.
- The butterfly-shaped earring has two small circles on the front. The idea is that you need to push the bobby pin into the space between the hoops. This method is quite difficult. So, work slowly. Don't be surprised if the earring cover slips occasionally from your hand.
- Four earring caps should be enough to make false braces. However, if you have a wide mouth, you will need more ear flaps. You will need a number of earring flaps so that they can cover all of your teeth when you smile.
Step 7. Apply hot glue to secure the earring cover
The earring cover is very easy to fall off. So, you need to drip a little hot glue on each earring cover that is used. This will help the object stay attached to the bobby pin.
Make sure the glue dries completely before proceeding with the manufacture of dentures
Step 8. Slide the rubber band into the hole in the earring cover
If you want to make colored braces, prepare colorful rubber bands. Thread one end into the loop on the earring cover. After that, pull the rubber and insert it into the other hole. Cut off the remaining rubber and repeat this process for each earring.
- You may need to cut the ends of the colorful rubber bands with scissors to make them tapered. This will make it easier for the tip to fit into the earring hole.
- This step is optional. If you don't want to wear colorful braces, then skip it.
Step 9. Attach the rubber band to the braces
Prepare a rubber band. Wrap it around both ends of the hair clip. This will hold the braces in a U shape and will allow you to attach them to your teeth. Your dentures should look like the letter "D" once the rubber band is attached.
It's a good idea to secure the rubber band by bending the sharp ends of the bobby pins into a small circle. Not only does this hold the rubber bands in place, this method can also remove any sharp parts of the braces. You should not keep objects that are too pointy in your mouth for a long time
Step 10. Place the braces in the mouth
Now, you can put braces in your mouth. Press the circle against your teeth. Place the rubber band between the two back teeth on either side of the mouth so that the object is securely attached.
Method 2 of 3: Making Dentures Retainers
Step 1. Prepare your materials
Now, you can make a denture retainer to use with dentures. You don't need a lot of materials for this project, just hot water and a wax container.
- You will need a wax bottle filled with juice. You can buy this product at the nearest supermarket or art supply store. In general, there are several bottles in one package. So you can make several different dental retainers.
- You also need access to hot water. If you want to add color to your dental retainer, you'll need food coloring. Choose the color as you wish.
Step 2. Bite the top of the wax bottle and spit out the liquid
For starters, nibble on the top of the juice bottle. Then, remove the juice inside. You can drink it if you want, or throw it in the sink. Make sure you drain the contents to the last drop.
Step 3. Squeeze the bottle until it becomes a solid ball
Now, use your hands to roll the bottle into a solid ball. It's a good idea to roll the bottle sideways first with both hands until it forms a long cylinder. After that, roll the cylinder to form a spiral. Squeeze this object with both hands and roll it between your palms until it forms a small tight circle.
Step 4. Place the ball under hot water for 60 to 90 seconds
Turn on the tap water in the bathroom until it feels hot to the touch. Place the ball under the running water in the sink. Leave it there for 60 to 90 seconds. To test it, touch the ball. If it feels soft and malleable, the ball is ready to use.
Step 5. Place the candle in the mouth and shape it according to the mouth
You may need to let the balls cool if they feel very hot. Do not let your mouth or tongue burn. After that, place the wax ball in your mouth. Use your tongue and fingers to flatten it on the roof of your mouth. Continue to flatten and shape the wax until it feels comfortable on the roof of your mouth.
Step 6. Wear your dental retainer and denture braces together
Now, put on the dentures. You should be able to get the look of cool braces/retainers. This is perfect combined with costumes or worn to school if you want to look different all day.
Step 7. Color the dental retainer as an added effect
There are many people who wear colorful dental retainers. If you want the object to look more realistic, prepare some food coloring and mix it with water. Add enough food coloring to allow the water to absorb the color. Then, soak your fake retainer in food coloring for about 10 minutes.
Method 3 of 3: Taking Safety Measures
Step 1. Do not use dentures in place of real braces
Dentures can only be worn to complete the appearance. However, it does not replace the function of the real product. If you need braces or think you need them, ask your parents for an orthodontic appointment. Never use false braces as a substitute for real items. The object is just a decoration, not the same as the real thing. Dentures can't repair damage like crooked teeth.
Step 2. Don't use braces for too long
Dentures can cause tooth decay over time. You should not install it for a long time. Only use it occasionally, such as for a costume party. If your teeth or mouth feel stiff, remove the object.
You should try to remove the sharp parts of the denture braces. Make sure the flat part of the earring is pressed against the teeth. You should also bend both ends of the bobby pin inward to reduce the sharpness
Step 3. Discontinue use if signs of tooth decay appear
Dentures can be a nest of food debris and cause plaque buildup. If you notice yellow stains on your teeth or pain in your gums, dentures may be the cause. Immediately discontinue use and contact the nearest dentist.
Step 4. Do not use products that contain lead to make dentures
Read the packaging of any product you are using. Products containing lead should be avoided. Putting lead-based products in the mouth can cause poisoning.
