An ISO file is a disc file or archive of an optical disc with an.iso extension. Linux operating system files, for example, are one of the most commonly shared files in the ISO file format. Users can download the ISO file, burn it to DVD, and use it like any other physical disc. In this article, you will be guided through the process of burning an ISO file to DVD.

Method 1 of 3: For Windows 7 and 8
Step 1. Insert a blank CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disc into the disc drive
Make sure you use media that is compatible with the device you are using.
Step 2. Find the ISO file that you want to burn to DVD
In the Windows Explorer window, find the disc file you want to copy, then right-click and select “Burn Disc Image”.
Step 3. Select the disc drive
If your computer is equipped with more than one drive, as shown in the “Disc Burner” list in the Windows Disc Image Burner window, select the drive you want to use.
Step 4. Verify the combustion process (optional)
If you want to verify that the file has been burned/copied to the disc correctly, check the box “Verify disc after burning”.
If the integrity of the disc file is critical/critical (eg the file contains firmware updates), you will also need to check the box
Step 5. Click “Burn” to burn the disc
Method 2 of 3: For Mac OS X
Step 1. Prepare a blank DVD (either single-layer or dual-layer)
Make sure the DVD you prepare has enough space to store the ISO file. Keep in mind that dual-layer DVDs usually have around 8GB of storage space.
Step 2. Insert the DVD
Open the drive, then insert the disc into a DVD player or burner.

Try to check if your computer has a DVD drive that can burn DVDs by clicking the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen, then selecting “About This Mac”. Click “More Info…” and select “Storage”. After that, the drive and all the writable formats will be displayed at the bottom of the list that appears.

Step 3. Open the Disk Utility application by going to “Finder” > “Applications” > “Utilities” > “Disk Utility”
In the Finder window, you can also press the “Command” (⌘) + U key combination to open the “Utilities” folder.
Step 4. Click “File” on the Disk Utility menu
After that, select "Open Disk Image".
Step 5. Locate and select the ISO file that you want to burn/copy to disc
Click the “Open” button to load the file via Disk Utility.
Step 6. Select the ISO file you want to copy from the panel on the left of the Disk Utility window, then click the “Burn” button to burn/copy it to DVD
Method 3 of 3: For Windows (Earlier Versions)
Step 1. Prepare a blank DVD (either single-layer or dual-layer)
Make sure the DVD you prepare has enough space to store the ISO file. Keep in mind that dual-layer DVDs usually have around 8GB of storage space.
Step 2. Visit ImgBurn
com.
Select one of the “mirror links” to download the ImgBurn program for free. Keep in mind that there are several applications that provide a similar service.
Double-click the “Setup_FreeBurner.exe” file downloaded from the ImgBurn website and follow the on-screen instructions to install the program onto your computer
Step 3. Insert the DVD into the DVD drive
Note that a drive can burn/copy files to a DVD if the front of the device has a “DVD-RW” label on the front of the device. You can also check it by right-clicking “My Computer” > “Properties” from the context menu that appears. After that, select the “Hardware” tab and go to “Device Manager”.
Run the ImgBurn program
Step 4. Click “Write image file to disc”
Step 5. Select the files you want to copy/burn
Click the magnifying glass icon in the “Source” section to browse your computer and select the desired ISO file.
Step 6. Burn your DVD
Click the large disc icon in the lower-left corner of the window to start the DVD burning process automatically.
Tips
There are many programs that can load and display ISO files or archives. This way, you can access the files contained in the archive, just as you would access files stored on a physical disk. Of course, this way you don't need to burn the ISO file to DVD first
Warning
- Don't burn an ISO file to a DVD by simply dragging and dropping it onto the DVD and then burning it. Such a process renders the disc unusable (not even ISO files can be copied and read).
- The names of the options on the program menu will differ from program to program. See the DVD writer's documentation or user guide (help file) for more information.
