This wikiHow teaches you how to open two Safari apps or tabs on iPad at the same time. This feature known as "Split View" can only be used on iPad Air 2, Pro, Mini 4 (or later) with iOS 10 and above.

Method 1 of 2: Opening Two Apps Simultaneously

Step 1. Tap the gray cog icon (⚙️) on your iPad home screen to open the Settings app

Step 2. Tap the General option near the top of the menu
This option has an icon (⚙️) next to it.

Step 3. Tap Multitasking near the top of the menu

Step 4. Slide the "Allow Multiple Apps" switch to the "On" position
The button will change color to green. Once this setting is active, you can use two apps at the same time.

Step 5. Press the circular Home button on the front of the iPad

Step 6. Rotate the iPad screen to landscape position
You can only open two apps at the same time if the iPad screen is in landscape position.

Step 7. Open the first app you want

Step 8. Slide the screen to the left slowly from the right
You will see a tab in the middle right of the screen.

Step 9. Drag the tab towards the left to the center of the screen to reduce the size of the apps on the screen
The application view will appear in the right panel of the screen vertically.
If other apps open automatically in the right pane, swipe down from the top of the screen on the right pane to close that pane

Step 10. Swipe down the list of apps until you find the app you want to open
Not all applications can be opened simultaneously with other applications. The only apps that appear in this panel are those that are compatible with the "Multiple Apps" feature

Step 11. Tap on the app you want to open that app in the right pane of the "Multiple Apps" view
- To change apps in the right pane, swipe down from the top of the screen, then select another app from the swipe screen.
- To close the "Multiple Display" view, tap and hold the gray slider between the two panels, then swipe over to the app you want to close.
Method 2 of 2: Showing Two Tabs in Safari Simultaneously

Step 1. Rotate the iPad screen to landscape position
You can only open two Safari tabs at the same time if the iPad screen is in landscape position.

Step 2. Tap the white icon with the blue compass image to open Safari

Step 3. Tap the Tab Manager icon in the form of two stacked squares in the top right corner of the screen
You will see a drop-down menu.

Step 4. Tap on the first option on the menu, which is Open Split View
Now, you can open two Safari tabs at the same time.
- Or, drag an open browser tab from the top of the Safari window to the right of the screen. The "Split View" view is active, and the tab you selected will open in a separate panel.
- To close the "Split View" view, tap and hold the Tab Manager button in the lower-right corner of any browser pane, then tap Merge All Tabs to open both tabs in both panes in the same window. Alternatively, tap Close Tabs to close the tab completely and open a second tab in full screen.
