This wikiHow teaches you how to get the latest version of iOS on your iPhone or iPad without connecting the device to a WiFi network. You can install the latest updates through iTunes on your computer.
Step
Step 1. Connect the device to the computer
You can use a charging cable to connect your device to a USB port.
The computer still needs an internet network other than a hotspot if WiFi is not available
Step 2. Launch iTunes on the computer
The iTunes icon usually appears on the desktop and has an image of a musical note.
- Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed.
- If it's not already available, you'll need to download iTunes first.
Step 3. Click your device icon
It's in the top-left corner of the page, below the menu bar.
Step 4. Click Check for Updates
It's in the right pane, below the name of the type of device you want to update.
If your device has been updated to the latest iOS version, you may see a pop-up window after the button is clicked telling you that there is no need to update
Step 5. Click Download and Update
Step 6. Click Agree
By doing so, you agree to the terms and conditions of Apple. After that, the computer will immediately download the iOS update and apply it to the device.
- When the update is installed on your device, you can see the Apple logo on the screen. Make sure the device remains connected to the computer during the update process.
- This process usually takes about 40 minutes to an hour. iTunes will display a bar estimating the remaining run time.
Step 7. Enter the passcode on the device if prompted
After that, the phone will run the latest iOS version.
