This wikiHow teaches you how to move Microsoft Office from one computer to another. Before installing Office on the new computer, deactivate the old computer for your Office 365 account. After that, you can install it on the new computer. Some older versions of Microsoft Office cannot be transferred to a new computer.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Deactivating Office on Old Computers
Step 1. Launch a web browser and visit
Run the browser on the old computer on which Office is currently installed.
Step 2. Log in to the Microsoft Store
You must use the email address (email) and password used to sign in to your Microsoft account. If you are logged in, the site will show the currently active installations.
Step 3. Click Install
It's an orange button below the column labeled "Install".
Step 4. Click Deactivate Install which is under the column that says "Installed"
Step 5. Click on Deactivate in the popup menu
This is to confirm that you really want to deactivate the currently installed Microsoft Office. The current installation of Microsoft Office will be deactivated. Microsoft Office can still be used, but with limited capabilities.
Part 2 of 4: Removing Office On Windows Computer
Step 1. Click the Windows Search button
It's an hourglass or circular button near the Start menu.
Step 2. Type Control Panel in the search field
The search field is at the bottom of the search menu.
Step 3. Click Control Panel
The app is blue with a number of graphics in it.
Step 4. Click Uninstall a program
This option is below the green heading that says "Programs". All programs installed on the computer will be displayed.
If this option is not present, select " Category " in the " View By: " drop-down menu. The drop-down menu is located in the upper-right corner of the Control Panel
Step 5. Highlight Microsoft Office by clicking on it
This can be "Microsoft Office 2016", "Microsoft Office 365", or whatever version of Office you have installed.
Step 6. Click Uninstall
The button is above the program list, between " Organize " and " Change ".
Step 7. Click Uninstall in the popup box
This is confirmation that you really want to remove Microsoft Office and proceed to remove the software.
Step 8. Click Close in the popup box
This button will appear when Microsoft Office has finished uninstalling.
Part 3 of 4: Removing Office on Mac Computer
Step 1. Click Finder
The app icon is blue and white with a smiley face display. Finder is in the Mac computer dock.
Step 2. Click Applications in the box on the left
Step 3. Right-click Microsoft Office
This can say Microsoft Office 2016, Microsoft Office 365, or whatever version of Office is installed on the computer.
If you have a magic mouse or trackpad, right-click by clicking with two fingers
Step 4. Click Move to Trash to delete Microsoft Office
Next, you can clean the trash can to free up hard disk space (hard drive).
Part 4 of 4: Installing Office on a New Computer
Step 1. Launch a web browser and visit
Run the browser on the new computer on which you want to install Microsoft Office.
Step 2. Go to the Microsoft Store
You must use the email address and password used to sign in to your Microsoft account.
Step 3. Click Install
It's an orange button below the "Install" heading.
Step 4. Click Install
It's an orange button to the right of the box that says "Install Information". The setup file will be downloaded.
Step 5. Click the setup file
This is the.exe file you just downloaded. By default, all downloaded files will be saved in the Downloads folder. The results of the download are usually also displayed at the bottom of the web browser (depending on the browser used).
Step 6. Click Run in the popup menu
Microsoft Office will begin to install.
Step 7. Click Next
This button appears when Microsoft Office has finished installing. A video presentation will play. Click " Next " again if you want to skip the video presentation.
Step 8. Click Sign In
It's an orange button in the popup window.
Step 9. Sign in with the email address and password associated with your Microsoft account
Now you can use Microsoft Office on your new computer. However, this software may continue to install in the background for a longer time. Do not restart or shut down the computer until Microsoft Office has completely finished installing.
