This wikiHow teaches you how to add a new tab with some useful developer tools to the Microsoft Word toolbar. The “Developer” tab, which can also be added to other Office applications such as Visio, Excel, and PowerPoint, provides quick access to macro tools, XML mapping, editing restrictions, and other features.

Method 1 of 2: On Windows
Step 1. Open Microsoft Word on the PC
You can find this application in the "Start" menu, usually in the menu named " Microsoft Office ”.
Step 2. Click the File menu
It's in the upper-left corner of the Word window. Once clicked, the menu will expand on the left side of the window.
Step 3. Click Options
This option is at the bottom of the menu.
Step 4. Click Customize Ribbon on the left pane
Step 5. Select Main Tabs from the "Customize the Ribbon" drop-down menu
It's in the top-right corner of the window.
Step 6. Check the box next to "Developer" in the "Main Tabs" section
Step 7. Click OK
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. New tab named “ Developer ” will be added to the menu ribbon at the top of the Word window. It will be the last tab on the menu ribbon (to the right of the "View" tab).
Click the tab " Developer ” to view all the developer options in Word, including macro creation options, XML mapping, and the Visual Basic editor.
Method 2 of 2: On MacOS
Step 1. Open Microsoft Word on the Mac computer
You can find this application in the folder Applications ” and often on “Launchpad”.
Step 2. Click the Word menu
This menu is in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Click View in the "Authoring and Proofing Tools" section
Step 4. Check the box next to "Show developer tab"
It's in the " Ribbon " section at the bottom of the window. Menus " Developer ” will be added at the top of the Microsoft Word window.
