This wikiHow teaches you an easy way to translate or add subtitles to a movie. This can be done on video files with the format AVI, MPG, MPEG, and so on.

Step 1. Download the movie you want to translate
It is recommended that you download the video file to your computer. If the video is on a DVD disc, move the file to your computer. You can also download streaming videos with various apps or websites. If you can't do anything, download the video using torrents.
Understand that downloading copyrighted videos using torrents is illegal in most countries. At your own risk if you use torrents
Step 2. Find out the frame rate for the movie you want to translate
Follow the steps below to find out the frame rate of a video file on your computer:
- Right-click the video you want to translate.
- Click Properties.
- Go to the Details tab.
- Take note of the displayed frame rate.
Step 3. Visit a site that provides captions
Some sites that provide subtitles that can be downloaded include:
- Subscene
- OpenSubtitles
- YIFY Subtitles
- TVSubtitles
Step 4. Search for the movie you want to translate through the search field
Most captioning sites have a search field placed at the top of the page. Look for the film's subtitle through the search field.
- If the caption isn't there, try looking for it on another site, or do a direct search on Google.
- YouTube can show captions automatically on most videos so you can also download captions from YouTube videos.
Step 5. Click the subtitles for the language you want the movie you want to watch
Some sites, such as Subscene, provide a variety of subtitle files in many languages. Click the subtitle file for the language you want to use. The subtitle download page will be displayed.
Make sure the downloaded file is from the same year the video was released (if any)
Step 6. Check the frame rate for your downloaded captions
On sites like Subscene, you can click Subtitle details on the download page to find out the caption details. This displays the caption file details, including the video framerate.

Step 7. Download the subtitles file
Download the subtitle file by clicking the Download button. The downloaded file is usually in Subrip (.srt) format which is packaged in a zip file. Subrip files are used to display subtitles in movies.
Step 8. Extract the subtitles file into the same folder as the movie
Use an archive application (such as WinRAR or 7-Zip) to extract the ".srt" file in the same folder as the video.
Step 9. Rename the caption file to the exact same name as the video
This allows you to select the caption in the subtitle channel menu located within the media player application.
Step 10. Open the video in the media player
You can use any media player that supports subtitles and subtitles.
Step 11. Select the desired language in the captioning channel
Open the subtitles menu on the media player and enable subtitles. After that, select the language you have selected from the list of language options. The captions you download will be displayed with the videos you watch.
Tips
- Search for movie subtitles using Google. For example, you can type the keyword " Mulan Subtitle " in the Google search field.
- You can also edit the caption file with a text-editing program (such as TextEdit or NotePad), or a caption-editing application (such as Aegisub).
