Step 1. Open the image you want to rotate

You can use the following steps to rotate a full image. In Photoshop, the "canvas" is the entire image that appears in a dark gray frame.

Step 2. Rotate the image horizontally by clicking Image > Image Rotation > Flip Canvas Horizontal

The image will be rotated from top to bottom.

Step 3. Rotate the image vertically via the Image menu

This step will rotate the image from top to bottom. Click Image > Image Rotation > Flip Canvas Vertical. The image will be rotated from top to bottom.

Step 4. Keep in mind that the names of the options for rotating images may vary depending on the version of Photoshop you are using

If you're using an older version of Photoshop, the option to rotate the image might be labeled Rotate, instead of Image Rotation. However, Photoshop's option names generally don't vary that much between versions so you shouldn't get confused.

If you're having trouble finding the right options for rotating the image, click Help in the menu bar and enter the keyword "flip". You will be taken to the appropriate option

Step 1. Select the layer you want to rotate

You can rotate the entire canvas or a specific layer. Therefore, separate the parts you want to rotate into separate layers. If you have separated the part you want to rotate, select the layer in the Layers panel.

Step 2. Enter the Free-Transform Mode mode

After entering this mode, Photoshop will place a box on the selected object. The grid allows you to rotate, zoom in, zoom out, or rotate the image. Follow one of the steps below to enter Free-Transform Mode:

  • From the menu bar, click Edit > Free Transform
  • Select the layer you want to rotate, then press Ctrl+T (PC) or Cmd+T (Mac).

Step 3. Right-click on the selected object in Free-Transform Mode to open the Flip option

At the bottom of the menu, you will see the option of Flip Horizontally or Flip Vertically. Select one of these options to rotate the object.

  • The Flip Horizontally option rotates the left and right parts of the image.
  • The Flip Vertically option rotates the top and bottom of the image.

Step 4. Press Enter to apply the changes
