This wikiHow teaches you how to play the Minecraft game on computers, smartphones or tablets, and consoles. If you have purchased, downloaded, and/or installed Minecraft, you can create new worlds that you can use to explore and experience the features in Minecraft.

Part 1 of 5: Setting up the Game on the Computer
Step 1. Download and install Minecraft
You must purchase, download, and install Minecraft on your computer in order to play it.
Skip this step if you have Minecraft installed
Step 2. Run the Minecraft launcher
Double-click the Minecraft Launcher icon, which is a block of dirt.
You may have to wait for Minecraft to update before continuing
Step 3. Click the PLAY button
It's a green button at the bottom of the launcher. Once you do that, Minecraft will start.
You may need to enter your Minecraft login information in order to continue
Step 4. Click the Singleplayer option at the top of the main menu
Step 5. Click Create New World at the top of the window
Step 6. Give a name for the world you created
In the text box at the top of the window, type the name you want for the world.
Step 7. Set the world options if necessary
Click More World Options… to see the world options available, then change whatever you want to change (such as the world type, or the enable structure).
Step 8. Click Create New World
This button is located at the bottom of the window. Once you click on it, the game settings will be confirmed and your world will be created. Once the world is loaded, you can start playing Minecraft.
Part 2 of 5: Setting Up the Game in Pocket Edition
Step 1. Purchase and install Minecraft
The game can be purchased and installed on Android and iPhone devices.
Skip this step if you have Minecraft installed
Step 2. Run Minecraft
Tap the Minecraft icon, which is a block of dirt.
Step 3. Tap Play which is at the top of the screen
Step 4. Tap Create New
This option is at the top of the screen.
Step 5. Tap Create New World
This option is located at the top of the screen. The world creation page will open.
If this option does not exist, first tap the tab New World which is in the top left corner.
Step 6. Give a name for the world you created
Type in the name you want to use for the world.
By default the name is " My World"
Step 7. Select the difficulty level
Tap the " Difficulty " drop-down box, then select the desired difficulty level in the drop-down menu.
If you choose a high difficulty, the monsters will do more damage and are harder to kill
Step 8. Set the other world options
Scroll down to the " Game Settings " section and take a look at the available options. You can change whatever you want before starting the game, although some options may not be available after you start the game.
Step 9. Tap on the Create button which is on the left side of the screen
Your game settings will be confirmed and your world will be created. Once the world is loaded, you can start playing Minecraft.
Part 3 of 5: Setting Up the Game on the Console
Step 1. Purchase and install Minecraft
You can buy and install Minecraft on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Skip this step if you have Minecraft installed
Step 2. Run Minecraft
Insert a Minecraft game disc, or select Minecraft from the list of games you purchased.
Step 3. Select Play Game at the top of the Minecraft main menu
Step 4. Select the Create tab
This can usually be done by pressing the right shoulder button on the controller (controller).
Step 5. Select Create New World
This option is located at the top of the tab Create.
Step 6. Give a name for the world you created
Select the text box at the top, then enter the name you want to use for the world
By default, the name is "New World"
Step 7. Select the difficulty level
Scroll down to the " Difficulty " slider, then move the slider left to decrease the difficulty, or right to increase the difficulty.
If you choose a high difficulty, the monsters will do more damage and are harder to kill
Step 8. Adjust game options if necessary
choose More Options, then change any options you want. When you have finished making settings, exit this menu by pressing the button circle (PS4) or B (Xbox One).
For example, perhaps you could enter the code for a specific world into the " Seed " text field, or you could uncheck the " Generate Structures " box to prevent the village from being built
Step 9. Select Create New World at the bottom of the screen
Game settings will be confirmed and your world will be created. Once the world is loaded, you can start playing Minecraft.
Part 4 of 5: Starting a Minecraft Game
Step 1. Learn the controls and their functions
A complete list of Minecraft game controls can be seen by doing the following:
- Computer - Press Esc key, select Options…, click Controls…, then look at the controls.
- Mobile devices - Tap the " Pause " button at the top of the screen, tap Settings, then tap Touch located on the left side of the screen. You can also tap Controller or Keyboard & Mouse to see the layout of the controls.
- Console - Press "Start" or "Options", select Help & Options, Press Controls, then look at the controls.
Step 2. Collect the necessary resources at the start of the game
Most of the activity in Minecraft is collecting and using the resources found in the world around you. When you start Minecraft, you should immediately collect the following items:
- Ground - This is probably the most common block in the game. Land is relatively useless in the game, but can be used to create effective temporary shelters early in the game.
- Wooden blocks - Wooden blocks can be obtained by hitting trees. You'll need wood to make many things from weapons and tools to torches and craft materials.
- Gravel and Sand - These two materials are almost the same as soil, which can be used for floors or walls. Gravel and sand will fall if there are no blocks under them.
- Wool - This can be obtained by killing sheep. You'll need wool to make your bed, which is an important tool to avoid getting frustrated early in Minecraft.
Step 3. Make a temporary house
Make 4 walls and 1 roof using soil, sand and gravel. You must have a hiding place when night falls.
- You should also use the soil to build the house because more wood is needed to make tools.
- Don't forget that you must leave a hole that is at least a block in size somewhere in the house (such as in the ceiling). If this is not done, your character will suffocate.
Step 4. Make a craft table
You'll need it to make almost everything in the game. Crafting tables can be made in the inventory (inventory).
Step 5. Make the bed
A bed has two uses: it allows you to spend a dangerous night sleeping there, and to reset the spawn point to the last bed you slept in. This means, if you die, you will not be re-spawned at the beginning of the world, but near the bed.
It's very important to make your bed as soon as possible, especially if your shelter is far from the location where you started the game
Step 6. Go to bed when night falls
As already explained, you can use this to pass the night because Minecraft monsters (called " mobs " in this game) will appear at night.
If you don't have time to make a bed before nightfall, hide in a shelter until the sun comes up again
Step 7. Make some tools (tools)
Tools are the main items for a successful Minecraft game because you can use them to acquire and craft weapons, other tools, and armor later in the game. Make the following tools to start the game:
- Pickaxe - It is used to mine stones. Start by making a wooden pickaxe, then use the pickaxe to mine 3 stone blocks that will be used to make a stone pickaxe.
- Sword - You need it to defend yourself from mob attacks. Any sword (even made of wood) will be much better than a fist.
- Ax - This tool is needed to cut wood quickly. While you can chop wood without using an axe, this tool can significantly speed up the process.
- Shovel - This tool is used to quickly collect soil, sand and gravel. You may not use a shovel to collect the materials, but you can speed up the process if you use one.
Step 8. Know the different types of mobs
While you might prefer to run away from all the monsters and animals you come across, most mobs won't attack unless you attack them first:
- Peaceful - This mob will never attack, and instead run away if you attack him. Examples are farm animals (such as cows, pigs, sheep, etc.).
- Neutral - This mob will not attack unless you attack him first. Examples are Endermen and Spiders (during the day only).
- Hostile - This mob always attacks if it sees you. Examples are Zombie, Creeper, Skeleton, and Spider (only at night).
Part 5 of 5: Survival in Minecraft
Step 1. Find and mine coal
In addition to being very valuable as fuel for the furnace you will build later, coal is also an important component of torch making.
Step 2. Make a torch
You can make a torch using 1 stick and 1 coal (or charcoal).
Once placed, the torch cannot be destroyed or extinguished. You can only move it to another place, which can be retrieved and placed in the desired location
Step 3. Place lots of torches around the house
In addition to illuminating the area, torches can increase the level of illumination in the surrounding environment. This condition prevents certain mobs (like Creeper, Zombie, Skeleton, etc.) from spawning near the house so you'll be safe at night.
Place lots of torches so mobs don't really spawn near the house. The best torch formation is to arrange it like a tight ring around the house
Step 4. Make the furnace
The use of the furnace is to cook food and smelt iron ore into iron rods. Food is a very important ingredient for your survival, while iron is a very useful material for making most things in Minecraft. So, the furnace is a very valuable object.
The way to use a stove is to place resources (e.g. metal ore or food) at the top, and fuel (e.g. wood, coal, lava, etc.) to the bottom
Step 5. Start exploring the world and gathering resources
Some things like rock, iron, coal, and wood are very important items for your survival in Minecraft. So, collect as many of these materials as possible.
- If you come across a location that contains a lot of resources (such as a cave), mark it with a torch or place a block path that extends to it.
- You can create chests to store the resources you've collected so you don't have to take them with you the next time you explore.
Step 6. Create a new house
The temporary shelters you use when you start the game are usually still rough with materials that don't match each other. You can build a solid house if you have gathered enough materials.
Resources such as rock (particularly granite) and iron are more resistant to explosions than soil and wood. These materials are very useful for minimizing the damage caused by the Creeper
Step 7. Move the existing contents of the temporary residence to the new home if necessary
This is very easy to do when the two houses are close together. You can use the old house as storage and strengthen the defenses in the new home independently. This is a safer course of action than moving things to a new home.
- Only move the contents of the house during the day.
- Don't break the chest if there's still something in it. Move the item from the chest to your inventory, then break the chest to retrieve it.
Step 8. Look for food
Food can be obtained by killing animals and picking up dropped meat (eg taking raw meat from pigs). Food can be consumed to heal players and restore the "Hunger" (hunger) bar, which will continue to decrease over time.
- You can cook food by placing it on the stove and adding fuel to it.
- You can consume food by placing it on the gear bar, selecting it, and pressing the " Mine " button (or tapping and pressing the screen if you're playing Minecraft PE).
Step 9. Avoid fighting mobs whenever possible
Minecraft is not a game that focuses on combat, although you do have to create useful items to protect yourself. Moving actively outdoors and lusting after mobs is more likely to kill you than staying alive at night. While there are exceptions to this rule (such as when you have to kill a spider to get a rope), running away from a fight is a better solution than fighting in Minecraft.
- If you have to fight mobs, use a sword to do so. Using tools is more effective than bare hands.
- Creepers (green exploding monsters) should not be disturbed. If a Creeper is chasing you, hit this mob once, then back off until the monster explodes.
- Endermen (tall, black mobs) won't attack if you don't look at them or hit them. If provoked, Endermen is a mob that proves to be very difficult to kill with any tool.
- If you have a bow and arrow, you can attack the enemy while moving backwards. Keep in mind that some mobs (like Skeleton) also have bows and arrows.
Tips
- Make a map to help document your progress in the Minecraft world.
- You can disable mobs to safely explore Minecraft if you want to play in Survival Mode without worrying about getting killed by monsters.
- You can get resources by raiding chests in the village. Look for a blacksmith's shop, which is a shop with a flat roof and usually has lava in front of it. This shop doesn't always exist in a village, but if it does, you can find chests in it.
- If you encounter a village NPC/ non-playable character (unplayable game character), you can exchange emeralds for equipment, shelter at night, and to use the resources available in the village (such as farms and anvils). to make things.
- Use tools properly. A sword is used to kill mobs (like zombies, skeletons, creepers, etc.), a shovel is a tool for digging blocks (like gravel, dirt, sand, etc.). An ax is a tool for cutting objects made of wood (eg chests, logs, craft tables, etc.), pickaxes are used to mine stone-based resources (such as stone, coal ore, cobblestone, etc.), and the hoe is a tool to cultivate the land.
- If you're in an emergency and need shelter quickly, build a tower 20 blocks high and stand on top of it for temporary safety so you can heal or equip yourself with weapons or armor. Be careful not to fall!
- There are 2 subworlds in Minecraft: The Nether, namely a landscape that depicts hell and holds hidden resources, and The End, which is your "final" mission to face the bosses in the game.
Warning
- Creeper and Spider are the most vicious monsters in the game, and can kill you quickly. If possible, avoid these two mobs.
- Don't dig straight down. Minecraft is full of hidden traps and subterranean lava lakes.
