In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen (as well as in the original versions of the game, Pokémon Red and Blue), Saffron City is a large and busy city where Sabrina, the psychic expert is waiting to battle you. There are many reasons to visit this city - it is home to the sixth Gym in the Kanto league, Fighting Dojo, Silph Co. Headquarters, and many more places! Whether you're a beginner looking to find your way into the city or a Pokémon expert looking to rethink how to get to Saffron City, don't worry - getting to Saffron City is easy!
Step
Part 1 of 3: Getting Tea Drink
Step 1. Go to Celadon City
To reach Saffron City, you must return to Celadon City first. As a reminder, Celadon City is the city where there is a six-story department store building and also where Erika, the Grass element expert Gym Leader, is located. Celadon City is to the west of Saffron City, and the two cities are connected by Route Seven.
If you have a Pokémon that has the "Fly" skill (HM02), you can fly directly to Celadon City. Otherwise, go to Celadon City from Fuchsia City via the Bike Tunnel (Route 17) or from Lavender Town via the Underground Path
Step 2. Go to Celadon Mansion
After arriving at Celadon City, visit Celadon Mansion. This building is located next to the Celadon City Pokémon Center, and this is probably where you get your Eevee.
Step 3. Talk to the Old Lady
On the first floor of the Celadon Mansion building, you should be able to find an old woman. From the entrance, the old woman should be found at the top left table. Talk to him.
Step 4. Can drink tea
The old lady should be giving you hot tea. Congratulations - you now have what it takes to get into Saffron City!
Since you are already inside the Celadon Mansion, you can take the time to visit the second floor, where you can get information about Erika, Saffron City's Gym Leader. You should do this if you are trying to complete the Fame Checker side mission
Part 2 of 3: Reaching Saffron City
Step 1. Head towards Route Seven to the east
After getting the tea, you must exit Celadon City through the east door of the city (ie the right side of the screen). You don't need to heal Pokémon in Celadon City's Pokémon Center, as Pokémon won't get hurt - there's no Pokémon trainers to deal with on Route Seven.
Step 2. Enter the Saffron City outpost
Route Seven is very short and safe compared to other routes - all you have to do to get to Saffron City is to walk south, then east (down, then right). Jump or descend the valley, then enter the long side building.
The only possibility to fight on Route Seven is to walk on the tall grass above the path to be crossed. You don't have to do it to reach Saffron City
Step 3. Talk to the police officer
Inside the guard post, you will see a police officer. Previously, this officer should have prevented you from entering Saffron City. Now, however, you should approach him and have a chat with him - he should take the tea you brought and drink it. After this, he will let you through the guard post without any hindrance at all.
Safe! exit the guard post through the door on the right and you've made it to Saffron City
Part 3 of 3: Visiting Saffron City in the Advanced Stage of the Game
Step 1. Fly to Saffron City
After reaching Saffron City for the first time, the easiest way to reach it next time was to fly there. You only need a Pokémon that has the Fly skill (HM02) to reach Saffron City directly from almost anywhere in the Kanto region.
To fly to Saffron City, select a Flying-type Pokémon from the Pokémon menu that has the Fly skill, then select "Fly" from the menu that appears, and select Saffron City on the map. Saffron City is in the middle of the "crossroads" on the east side of the map
Step 2. Walk to Saffron City
If you don't have a Pokémon that has the Fly skill in your group or you want some extra experience, you can walk to Saffron City. There are plenty of trails to walk on because Saffron is in a location surrounded by four different cities. Here's a quick guide to getting to Saffron City from each direction:
- From the north: Start at Cerulean City, then head south via Route Five. Be aware that the exit north of the Underground Path will lead you to Route Five.
- From the south: Starting at Vermilion City, head north through the winding road on Route Six. Be aware that the exit south of the Underground Path will lead you to Route Six.
- From the east: Starting from Lavender Town, head west and follow the path on Route Eight. Know that the end of the Underground Path will lead you to Route Eight.
- From the west: Take Route Seven as explained in the article above.
Step 3. Bike to Saffron City
If you don't have a Pokémon that has the Fly skill in your group and you want to get to Saffron City as quickly as possible, using a bike is probably the best option you have. By bicycle, you can go through any of the land routes listed above - and you can travel through them much more quickly.
