Dratini is a rare Dragon-type Pokémon. If raised properly, the Dratini can be a great complement to your team. You can find these elusive Pokémon in the Safari Zone, or you can exchange quite a few coins at the Rocket Game Center. Method 1 of 2: Catching Dratini in Safari Zone
Step 1. Get Super Rod
You need the best fishing tackle in the game to catch Dratini. You can get the Super Rod on Route 12, inside a house where a Fisherman is. Talk to him and you will get a Super Rod.
Step 2. Go to the Safari Zone
Dratini can only be caught in the Safari Zone, so you don't have to worry about which Pokémon to use against them, as there are no battles taking place in the Safari Zone. You can visit the Safari Zone from Fuchsia City.
Step 3. Start fishing
Dratini can be caught in all four areas of the Safari Zone. Throw the line in any puddle you can find to start fishing. There is a 15% chance that the Pokémon spawned from fishing is Dratini.
- When a Pokémon eats the bait, press the A button to pull the bait, or the Pokémon will run away.
- There is a 1% chance that the Pokémon that appears is Dragonair, which is Dratini's evolutionary form.
Step 4. Throw Rock
You have four options when starting a battle in the Safari Zone: you can throw a Bait, Rock, Safari Ball, or you can escape with the Run option. Casting a Bait will make the Pokémon less likely to run away, but the chances of catching it will decrease. Throwing a Rock makes the Pokémon easier to catch, but the Pokémon will be more likely to run away.
Throwing a stanza followed by a Rock will bring everything back to neutral. If you want to increase your chances of catching a Pokémon, choose between throwing one Rock, or throwing a Bait and following with two Rocks
Step 5. Throw the Safari Ball
If the ball doesn't catch Dratini, there's a chance that Dratini will run away. If Dratini escapes, you'll need to fish again in order to confront him. If Dratini doesn't run away, you can try throwing the Safari Ball again the next turn.
Step 6. Practice Dratini
Once you catch a Dratini, you can start training it until it evolves into a Dragonite. Dratini can be used in various types of teams because of its speed and Dragon-type attacks. Method 2 of 2: Buying Dratini at Celadon City
Step 1. Visit the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon City
You can win Dratini from this place any time after you have visited Celadon City. Dratini can be exchanged for 2,800 coins.
Step 2. Gamble or buy coins
You can use a slot machine to get the coins you need, or if you don't have the time and have a lot of money, you can buy them. If you want to bet for coins, one of the machines has a higher chance of winning, but the machine settings change every time you enter the game room.
