This wikiHow teaches you how to transfer PDF files to your Kindle ebook reader or Kindle mobile app. You can use the "Send-to-Kindle" email address registered with your Kindle to send PDF files to the Kindle app via email. You can also transfer PDF files directly from your computer to your device using a USB cable.

Method 1 of 2: Sending PDF Files Via Email
Step 1. Find your "Send-to-Kindle" email address
You can use this address to send PDF files to your Kindle device or app:
- Go to the "My Devices" page on the Amazon site and sign in to your account if necessary.
- Swipe the screen and click the segment “ Personal Document Settings ”.
- Scroll down and take a look at the email address that appears under the " E-mail address " heading.
- Add a new email address if necessary by clicking “ Add a new approved e-mail address ”, type in the email address when prompted, and select “ Add Address ”.
Step 2. Open the email inbox
Visit your account's email service to open your inbox.
If you don't log into your email service account automatically, type in your email address and password first
Step 3. Create a new message
Open the " New Email " window following these steps, depending on the email service you are using:
- Gmail - Click the button “ COMPOSE " (or " Compose ” if you're using a new version of your email inbox) on the left side of the page.
- Outlook - Click “ New messages ” in the top left corner of the page.
- Yahoo - Click “ Compose ” in the top left corner of the page.

at the top of the page.
Step 4. Enter the "Send-to-Kindle" email address
In the " To " field, type the address you found in the " E-mail address " section of your Amazon account's Kindle page.
Step 5. Click the "Attachment" icon
This icon is usually at the bottom or top of the email page. Once clicked, a File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac) window will open.
Step 6. Select the PDF file
Go to the directory where the PDF file is stored on your computer, then click the file to select it.
Step 7. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. The PDF file will be attached to the email.
Step 8. Send the email
Click the button Send ” (or paper airplane icon) to send a message. After that, the PDF file will be sent to your device or Kindle app. However, it may take a few minutes for the file to display.
The page may ask if you want to send an email without text in the " Subject " field and the body of the message, depending on the email service you use. If yes, click " Yes " or " Send ” to confirm.
Step 9. Open the PDF file on the Kindle
Make sure the device is unlocked and connected to a WiFi (or mobile data) network, then go to the "Library" section of the device to view the PDF file. Once the file is displayed, you can touch it to select it.
If you're using the Kindle app, open it and sign in to your account if necessary, then tap the “ LIBRARY ” to view a list of Kindle files. You can touch the icon of the PDF file once it is available.
Method 2 of 2: Sending PDF Files Via USB
Step 1. Do not follow this method if you are using the Kindle app
If you want to send a PDF file to the Kindle app on your tablet, use the email method.
Step 2. Download and install the Android File Transfer app if you are using a computer
Since Mac computers can't access Android's own file system, you'll need to install Android File Transfer to bridge the gap between the two file systems:
- Visit https://www.android.com/filetransfer/ via a Mac web browser.
- Click " DOWNLOAD NOW ”.
- Double-click the downloaded DMG file.
- Click and drag the Android File Transfer icon to the "Applications" folder.
Step 3. Copy the PDF file
Go to the directory where you want to add the PDF file to the Kindle app, then click the file and press Ctrl+C (Windows) or Command+C (Mac).
Step 4. Connect the Kindle to the computer
Plug one end of the Kindle charging cable into one of the USB ports, and connect the other end of the cable into the device's charging port.
Step 5. Open the Kindle folder
The steps to follow differ depending on the operating system of the computer:

Windows - Open File Explorer
(or press Win+E), then click the Kindle device name in the left sidebar of the window. You may need to scroll the sidebar first to see the Kindle directory.

Mac - Android File Transfer will open automatically once the device is connected. If not, open the app by typing android file transfer on “ Spotlight ”
and double click the option “ Android File Transfer ”.
Step 6. Open the Kindle's internal storage space
If the Kindle doesn't immediately display a list of folders, double-click the "Internal" or "Internal Storage" folder to open it.
Skip this step for Mac computer users
Step 7. Locate and open the “Docs” folder
This folder contains Kindle files such as PDF and Word documents. Double-click the folder to open it.
If you want to send a PDF file to a classic Kindle device, this folder might be named " Documents"
Step 8. Paste the copied PDF file
Once the " Docs " folder is open, press Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac) to paste the copied files into the folder. After that, the file will be placed on the Kindle device.
Step 9. Disconnect and disconnect the Kindle device from the computer.
After safely disconnecting the device from the computer, you can unplug it from the cable.
Step 10. Open the PDF file on the Kindle
Unlock the device, then access the "Library" section of the device to view PDF files. Once the PDF file is displayed, you can select it to open it.
Tips
- PDF files are supported by most Kindle devices by default, so you don't have to convert them to another file before sending them to your device.
- If the device is not connected to the computer via USB, try using a different USB port, then restart the computer and device. If even this step doesn't work, you may need to use a different USB cable.
