When you make your own lip gloss, you can modify it with your favorite scent or color, and even add some glitter powder if you want your lips to look more radiant. It's possible that you already have the ingredients you need at home. Use beeswax for a thicker lip gloss, Vaseline for a simple mixture of the two ingredients, or coconut oil for a moisturizing lip gloss. Lip glosses are fun and easy to mix, and you can also make them to share with friends!

Step
Method 1 of 4: Make a Lip Gloss with Beeswax
Step 1. Prepare the beeswax by grating it to melt faster
You can buy beeswax in cubes or pastilles online. If you bought the wax in the form of pastilles, you don't need to grate it. If you purchased a wax cube, grate it and place it in a small bowl to make it easier to mix with the other ingredients. Grate cosmetic standard beeswax as much as approximately 2 tablespoons or 30 grams.
The more beeswax you use, the thicker or thicker the lip gloss will be
Tips:
This recipe makes about 13-14 tubes of lip gloss. This amount is perfect if you want to keep stock or share it as a gift. If you don't want to make too much, just reduce the amount of each ingredient in half to make a smaller amount.
Step 2. Measure and pour the ingredients into a measuring cup using a funnel
Prepare 4 tablespoons (60 ml) of grapeseed oil or olive oil, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of coconut oil, 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of cocoa butter or shea butter, and grated beeswax. Open 3 vitamin E capsules and put the oil in a glass.
- A measuring cup with a funnel makes it easy for you to pour your lip gloss mixture later, but if you don't have one, a regular glass bowl can also be used.
- Do not put the vitamin E capsule in the measuring cup.
Step 3. Set a double pot on the stove
Use a saucepan large enough to hold a measuring cup, and fill the pot with water until it reaches a height of 5-7.5 centimeters. Place the pot on the stove and turn on the stove to medium heat, then put the measuring cup that holds all the ingredients into the saucepan.
- Be careful not to get the water in the saucepan into the measuring cup because the water won't mix with the other ingredients and can actually damage the lip gloss mixture.
- If you don't have a stove, you can also melt the mixture in the microwave. Be careful not to burn the ingredients and just heat the ingredients for 10-15 seconds for each session. Stir the ingredients each time you remove the measuring cup to check the mixture.
Step 4. Stir the mixture periodically until all the ingredients are melted
Use a silicone spatula to scrape the walls of the glass so that all the ingredients are evenly mixed. Once completely smooth and without lumps, the mixture is done!
If you don't want to bother washing the silicone spatula afterward, you can also use a single-use plastic spoon
Step 5. Pour the mixture into the lip gloss container while it is still warm
The mixture will be easier to pour while it is still hot or warm. Once cool, the mixture does not flow easily. Use a real lip gloss container, and not just a lip balm can or tube. This recipe produces lip gloss, not lip balm, and the consistency is naturally thinner or lighter than lip balm.
If you have trouble getting the mixture into the tube, use a funnel
Tips:
You can buy tubes for lip gloss from the internet. Buy a tube that you can press to remove the shine, or a tube with an application stick. Both types of tubes are perfect for this lip gloss project.
Step 6. Cool the gloss mixture in the container for 20 minutes before use
As it cools, the mixture will harden so it's less runny. Once done, you can start using it right away.
To make it cool faster, you can store the lip gloss mixture in the refrigerator
Method 2 of 4: Using Vaseline
Step 1. Measure out 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of Vaseline and place it in a microwave-safe bowl
If you prefer, use 2 bowls to make 2 types of color, or 1 bowl to make several tubes of lip gloss of the same color. Since the bowl doesn't need to hold a lot of ingredients, you can use a very small bowl instead of a large one.
If you don't have Vaseline, try a different type of petroleum jelly
Step 2. Add 1 teaspoon of lipstick to a bowl filled with vaseline
Use a little bit of lipstick to give your lip gloss a bit of color, or more if you want a deeper or more intense look. Cut some lipstick from the tube and put it in a bowl.
- If you don't have lipstick, you can use eye drops or blush to color your lip gloss.
- You can also add 1-2 drops of essential oil or a little glitter powder to the mixture at this point.
Step 3. Heat the mixture in the microwave for 10-30 seconds
Put the bowl in the microwave and turn on the timer for 10 seconds. Check the mixture after the timer stops to see if the ingredients have melted. If not, put the bowl back in and heat for 10-20 seconds.
Be careful when using the microwave. The bowl can get very hot after you finish heating the ingredients
Tips:
If you don't have a microwave, heat the ingredients in a double pan on the stove.
Step 4. Use a disposable spoon to stir the vaseline and lipstick
Just stir the ingredients for 10 seconds until evenly mixed. Do not let there be clumps or parts of the lip gloss that are more intense in color than the other parts.
If you don't have a disposable spoon, that's fine. Disposable spoons make it easier for you to clean the utensils you use, but you can still use a regular spoon and wash it later
Step 5. Transfer the mixture to a cleaned lip gloss container
You can use a pressed lip gloss tube, a tube with an application stick, a lip balm tube, a flat tin, or any other container you want. However, make sure the container you use has a lid.
Transfer the mixture to a bowl once it has melted and mixed. The warmer the temperature, the easier it will be for the mixture to transfer to the container
Step 6. Cool the mixture for about 20 minutes before using
Place the lip gloss on a table or cupboard, or refrigerate it to cool faster. Once cooled, the mixture won't be runny and will have just the right consistency to work with!
Besides being suitable to be stored in a bag or on a table, you can also use this lip gloss as a gift
Method 3 of 4: Make Moisturizing Lip Gloss from Coconut Oil
Step 1. Melt the coconut oil and cocoa butter in the microwave
Take 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of coconut oil and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of cocoa butter, and place them in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat both ingredients for 10 seconds for each session until the consistency is almost runny.
Usually, the melting process of the material does not take more than 30-40 seconds
Step 2. Remove the contents of the vitamin E capsule into a bowl
Take 3 vitamin E capsules, cut off each end, and scoop out the extract in a bowl. Discard the packaging capsules and do not put the capsules in the bowl.
Do you know:
Vitamin E can protect lips from sun damage, while moisturizing and smoothing them at the same time.
Step 3. Add lipstick or essential oil if you want to create a colored or scented lip gloss
Add 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil to turn lip gloss into a small aromatherapy product. One teaspoon of lipstick is enough to color your lip gloss and give your lips a beautiful touch of color as part of your daily make-up routine.
You can also use a little eyeshadow, blush, or red beetroot powder to color the gloss mixture
Step 4. Stir all ingredients until evenly distributed
Use a disposable spoon for easier washing. Stir the ingredients for about 10 seconds and make sure you cool the bowl so that all the ingredients are combined and there are no residues.
It will be easier for you to mix the ingredients while the mixture is still warm. Therefore, stir the ingredients after you've melted the coconut oil and cocoa butter, and add any other ingredients you'd like to use
Step 5. Transfer the mixture to a flat tin and refrigerate for 20 minutes
Coconut oil has a low melting point so do not put the mixture in a lip balm tube as there is a chance the oil will melt if stored in such a container. You can buy small cans with lids from the internet (usually selling for around 10-15 thousand rupiah), or look for them at a five thousand department store or beauty supply store.
Try throwing a lip gloss party! Everyone can bring or make lip gloss in their favorite color, and swap colors so you have more choices
Method 4 of 4: Adding Fragrance, Color, or Glitter
Step 1. Add fragrance to the lip gloss by adding 3-4 drops of essential oil
Once the mixture has melted and before transferring to a bowl, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Try using the following oils:
- Peppermint oil for a fresh and strong aroma.
- Orange or lime oil for a fresh citrus scent.
- Lavender oil for a calming scent.
Step 2. Use blush or beetroot powder to add color to the gloss mixture
Use about teaspoon 2.5 grams of blush powder or red beetroot powder into the melted mixture. Stir the ingredients until smooth, then transfer the mixture to a bowl.
The more powder you add, the more intense the color will be. Experiment with ingredients to get a color you like
Step 3. Add 1 teaspoon of lipstick to the mixture to create a unique color
Add a little lipstick for a more intense color. Place the lipstick in a measuring cup along with the other ingredients before heating in a double pan.
You can add red, pink, purple, or more challenging colors to color the lip gloss mixture
Step 4. Create a shinier lip gloss with shimmer powder into the mixture
Add teaspoon (2 grams) of glitter powder first to the melted mixture before transferring it to the container. If desired, add teaspoon of glitter powder again. Mix the ingredients until smooth, then pour the mixture into the container you want to use.
To be safe, don't use glitter powder for crafts. Cosmetic standard gloss powder is formulated for use on the skin, and is harmless if accidentally swallowed
Tips:
Be careful not to use too much glitter powder. If you use too much, the consistency of the mixture may change and the lip gloss will feel harsh.
