Contouring is a makeup trick that really helps in creating the perfect nose shape. There are several different techniques you can use to achieve a slimmer, shorter, longer or straighter nose. Have you always wanted to know how to contour well? Follow the steps below to find out how!

Method 1 of 4: Make Your Nose Look Slimmer
Step 1. Draw two lines on either side of the nose
Do it after you've applied foundation. Use an angled eyeshadow brush to draw this contour line. Draw a line from the brow bone to the tip of the nose. It's a good idea to start by drawing light lines as it's easier to thicken them than to erase them.
- If you're not sure where this line is, use two earplugs to figure out where this line should be. Hold one earplug in each hand and place it on the sides of the nasal cartilage parallel to the center of the nose. This is where the contour lines are located.
- There are several different products you can use to contour your nose. Brown cheek or eye blush, matte bronzer or face contouring powder can be used. Make sure the color of this product is 1-2 shades darker than your skin tone. Cream-type products can also be used to contour, but powder-type products are easier to use, especially for beginners.
Step 2. Make a highlight on the bridge of the nose
Choose a highlighter 1-2 shades lighter than your natural skin tone to highlight the bridge of the nose. Apply a thin layer of highlighter from the top of the nose to the nostrils.
- Make sure you don't make this highlighter line too wide. The function of a highlighter is to highlight the area of the face where it is, so if you apply too much, your nose will look wider instead of slim.
- If your nostrils are wide, you should only apply highlighter to the center of your nose.
- To highlight the nose, you can use a special product for it, off-white or nude eye shadow or foundation or concealer with a color one or two shades lighter than the foundation you are wearing.
Step 3. Blend the lines that are too hard
If you notice any lines are too harsh, blend them in until all that's left is a subtle shadow. Do not let the products you use look too obvious on the face.
- Use a large blending brush or makeup sponge to blend out the contour lines and highlighter.
- Be careful not to blend these lines because you want them to look subtle but real.
Method 2 of 4: Make the Nose Look Shorter
Step 1. Darken the nostrils
Applying a darker color can make the face smaller. If you want to make your nose look shorter, apply a small amount of bronzer or eyeshadow to the nostrils, in the groove between the nostrils.
- Make sure you use bronzer or matte eyeshadow to avoid the tip of your nose looking sparkly!
- Blend the product to form these contours well using a blending brush or a soft sponge.
Step 2. Apply highlighter
Apply highlighter from the nostrils to the bottom half. Doing this gives the illusion of a shorter nose.
Step 3. Make the nose look shorter "and" slimmer
Make your nose look shorter and slimmer at the same time by applying the product downwards on both sides of the nose, and also on the tip of the nose. However, to avoid a longer look, it's a good idea to start contouring from the corners of your eyes instead of the browbones.
Method 3 of 4: Make the Nose Look Longer
Step 1. Start contouring the brow bone
To make your nose look longer, it's a good idea to start by drawing a contour line in the curve of your brow bone, then pulling it down to your nostrils. Using an angled brush, follow the curve of the brow bone to the top of the nose, then continue in a straight line to the tip of the nose. Repeat on the other side of the nose.
- Begin the line at the brow bone by drawing it just below the brow.
- Always draw a line from top to bottom because the contour line should look darkest on the bridge of the nose.
Step 2. Make the highlighter line longer
To make the nose look longer, you should apply highlighter down to the tip of the nose. But the most important thing is to apply highlighter up to the area between the eyebrows and parallel to the highest point (usually the arch) of your eyebrows.
Method 4 of 4: Make the Nose Look Straight
Step 1. Create a contour
With a small angled brush, draw two straight lines starting from the eyebrows towards each side of the nose using a powder that is 1-2 shades lighter than your skin tone. Connect these lines at the bottom by making a slanted line between the two nostrils. These lines look like arrows pointing downwards.
Step 2. Blend
Use a large brush to blend these lines well by focusing on the outside of the lines.
Step 3. Create highlights
Use a light-colored concealer or foundation and draw a very thin line between the eyebrows towards the nostrils below. Then blend. Then pat the concealer on both sides of the nose, near the nostrils and blend.
