The “perfect bun” may seem difficult to implement, but with this simple solution you will be able to do it. You can design a fashionable yet functional, classic bun with clean socks as a guide.

Step 1. Choose a sock
It's best to wear socks that don't work anymore; avoid socks that are still regularly used. Socks should be ankle or mid-shin length; if it was longer it would look ugly. Short socks tend to hold the bun in place
- Choose socks that won't "fall out" or loosen too much thread. You'll be cutting this sock, so if the sock tends to show through with loose threads, look for another sock or be prepared to trim the ends.
- Socks that match your hair color are the best, as they blend better with the strands of your hair.
Step 2. Cut the end of the sock
Remove the fingertips with sharp cloth scissors. The goal is to make a tube out of the sock, so cut as needed for this. If possible, follow the stitches when cutting. That way you have a cleaner, straighter cut.
Step 3. Tie your hair in a ponytail
Roll the sock into a donut or ring shape, then tuck it in a ponytail. Pull it at the base of the ponytail so all the hair is gathered inside.
Step 4. Pull the sock all the way to the ends of your hair
Once all the hair is gathered in the sock, pull it as close to the ends of the hair as possible. Tuck the hair around the sides and center of the bun.
Step 5. Roll up the sock
Hold the ends of the hair in the middle of the sock and roll the sock down towards the base of the ponytail. The hair will gather in a ring around the sock. Twist the sock as it rolls down so that it is completely covered by the hair.

When the sock reaches the base of the ponytail, tug at the edges and adjust so that none of the sock is showing through the hair. Use pins to secure the bun to your scalp if it feels loose or twitches. Add some hair spray, and you're done.
