To ensure that the data on your phone remains safe, back up the data in your phone to Google cloud storage (Android's online file storage service) every few weeks. You can back up contacts, calendar data, app data, Chrome data, and Google Drive content to Google servers via the Settings app, and back up photos via the Google Photos app.

Method 1 of 2: Backing Up General Data
Step 1. Tap the cog icon to open the Settings app
Step 2. Scroll down until you find the "Backup and Reset" option, then tap on it
You can enable backup to Google Cloud from this menu.
Step 3. Enter your PIN if prompted
This PIN/code is the same as the code you use to unlock your phone.
Step 4. Turn on the "Backup my data" and "Automatic restore" options until the button turns green
Once enabled, automatic data backup and restore will be active.
Step 5. Tap on "Backup Account" option
Step 6. Tap on your Google account name
This account is the primary Google account you use on your phone.
Step 7. Return to the Settings menu
Step 8. Swipe the screen, and tap on "Accounts" option
You must select the account to be used to back up the data.
Step 9. Tap the "Google" option, then select your Gmail account
Step 10. Turn on the option according to the data you want to back up
The options for that data will turn green, and the backup of the data you selected will begin. If you are unsure of the location and type of data, back up all data on the device.

- Application data
- Calendar
- Chrome Data
- Contact
- Document
- Google Drive Data
Step 11. Close the Settings menu to complete the backup
Method 2 of 2: Backing Up Photos and Videos
Step 1. Open Google Photos
This app is the default app on all Android phones.
Step 2. Find and tap the three horizontal dots on the top left of the screen
Step 3. Sign in to your Google account
Enter the same email address and password as your Google account on your phone.
Step 4. Return to the main Google Photos screen
Step 5. Tap "Settings" > "Back up & sync" option
Step 6. Swipe the "Backup" option at the top of the screen
The button to turn on the backup options is next to the word "On", under "Backup".
Step 7. Tap "Back up all" to back up photos and videos to Google Photos
You can also slide the "Roaming" option to back up photos with a data connection instead of Wi-Fi.
Step 8. Make sure the backup was successful by displaying the contents of Google Photos
Now, all of your photos will be backed up.
