You may feel embarrassed when you are about to use a gift card but the balance is empty! Luckily, you can check your gift card balance before you start shopping. To check your balance, you can visit a gift card website, contact a gift card company, or visit a specific store.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Checking Balance Online
Step 1. Find the website address on the back of the gift card
Turn the gift card over to the side with the black stripe, then read the information on it. Generally, you will find a guide to checking your balance, or information on websites that you can visit to check your card balance.
Be wary of scam websites that are not affiliated with gift card companies. Visit the website listed by the gift card company's official page, or the website listed on the back of the card
Step 2. Enter the required information
After successfully visiting the website listed on the back of the card, you need to fill in the fields provided with information related to the gift card. You may need to enter the card number and other code numbers, such as the due date or card access code.
Sometimes, you may need to remove the black tape on the back of the card to see the number
Step 3. Press submit or enter
After entering the required information, you will be redirected to a page showing your gift card balance. If that doesn't work, go to the previous page and re-enter the required information. Check whether the information entered is correct or not before pressing submit or enter.
If it still doesn't work, your card may have expired or a technical error has occurred. If this happens, contact customer service or visit a specific location
Step 4. Call or visit the store if the website is not listed on the back of the card
If you can't find the website address on the back of the card, you may not be able to check your balance online. If this happens, you may have to use another method to check the card balance.
Method 2 of 3: Contacting a Gift Card Company
Step 1. Find the gift card company's phone number on the back of the card
Most gift cards include a toll-free number that you can call to check the balance on the back of the card. Turn the card over to the side with the black stripe then find the toll-free number on the back of the card. Some cards will list two phone numbers--one for customer service and one for checking balances.
If you contact customer service, you will be redirected to a toll-free number to check your balance
Step 2. Call the number listed
Call the toll-free number to check the balance you find on the back of the card. Generally, you will be redirected to a balance checking clerk or to an automated telephone system.
Step 3. Use the phone keypad to enter the required information
When dialing the balance checking number, you will be asked to enter your gift card details, such as card number, due date, date of birth, or the last 4 digits of your phone number. The information required will depend on the type of your gift card. Follow the instructions of the system or staff until all the required information has been entered successfully.
Step 4. Wait and listen to your gift card balance
After entering all the required information, the gift card balance will be notified to you by phone. Write down the card balance or save it on your device so you can easily check the card balance again.
Method 3 of 3: Visiting the Store
Step 1. Visit a specific store to use a gift card
If the gift card is made for a specific company, visit that company's store. You can check your gift card balance in the store for free.
Step 2. Ask the store clerk for help to check the balance of the gift card
Give the gift card to the store clerk or cashier, then say that you want to check the balance of the gift card. The clerk or cashier can generally check the card and tell you the balance.
Step 3. Check the bottom of the receipt after using the card
If using a gift card in-store in person, ask for a transaction receipt. Most companies will list the remaining gift card balance at the bottom of the receipt.
