Are you looking for a fun and easy game when staying with friends? Of course you don't have to wait until nightfall to play “Murder in the Dark”, find a dark room, follow these rules, and have fun!
This game can be played by two or more people.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Setting Up a Game with Cards
Step 1. Remove the joker, ace, and king cards from the card set
Then, place an ace and a king back into the deck of cards. Let the other ace, king, and joker cards
Step 2. Shuffle the cards and distribute them to each player
Depending on the number of players, it is possible that not all players get the same number of cards. It does not matter.
Step 3. Explain what each card means
In the game "Murder in the Dark", certain cards will determine your role.
- The person who has the ace is the perpetrator.
- The person who has the king card is the cop.
- The person who has the jack card is the detective.
- If the person who has the jack card "die", then the person who has the king card becomes a detective.
- If the person with the jack or king card "die", then the person holding the queen card becomes the detective.
- However, remind all players that they must not tell anyone the cards they have so that no one will know who the perpetrators, the police and the detectives are.
Part 2 of 3: Setting Up a Game with Paper
Step 1. Cut a few strips of paper
Make enough according to the number of people playing. Make it small so that other people can't read the writing.
Step 2. Write each role on a separate sheet of paper
You will write:
- "Murderer"
- "Detective"
- On another piece of paper, write “Suspect”.
Step 3. Place the papers in the bowl
Each player takes one piece of paper. Remind everyone not to reveal their role in the game.
Part 3 of 3: Play
Step 1. Find a large space free of sharp objects so you don't bump into things that will hurt you when walking in the dark
Step 2. Turn off all the lights in the room
Ask all players to be careful when walking in the room and as much as possible not to be together or congregate in one area.
Step 3. Let the perpetrator find the 'victim'
The perpetrator will go around the room, looking for someone, touch their shoulder as a sign that they have become a victim.
- Perpetrators can also whisper softly “die” to the victim.
- In addition, the perpetrator can also cover the mouth of the victim to prevent the person from screaming, then whispering "dead".
- Victims may fall dramatically or make dramatic sounds. Try to be as dramatic or silly as possible.
Step 4. Shout “Murder in the dark
” or “Murder in the dark!” when you find a person who has been killed. After someone says so, the player closest to the switch turns on the light.
- If a player sees someone standing still alone, they can ask, "Are you dead?" Then the player can say yes or no, but they have to be honest so it's clear whether you can say "Murder in the Dark!"
- The trick that can be done by the perpetrator is to hide the person he killed somewhere or in another room. If the perpetrator can hide the people he kills, it will take more time until someone finds the victims so the perpetrator has more time to kill people.
- However, this tactic can lead to the perpetrator being caught because his attention is diverted to hiding his victims.
- Decide together whether the perpetrator can use this tactic before you start the game.
Step 5. Gather all the surviving players to the room where the victim was found
Players who are not present are declared dead.
As an extra game, you can try to find the dead players and bring them to the room
Step 6. Order the detective to guess the killer
This stage can be done simply by guessing or by holding a question and answer session to try to guess the murder mystery.
- The role of the police is to act as orderly when detectives try to solve cases.
- If you decide to have a question-and-answer session, have the detective sit in a chair in front of everyone and ask the surviving players a few questions, such as: Where were you when someone shouted “Murder in the dark”? Who do you think the killer is and why?
- If the detective has gathered enough information and decides a suspect of a murder, he or she will say: “final charges” and ask their suspect, “Are you the culprit?”
- If the detective guesses correctly, he wins the game. But, if their guess is wrong, the culprit wins the game.
- If the detective is killed by the culprit during the game in the dark, they can be replaced by anyone with a king card.
- If you don't use a card in the game, and the detective is killed in the dark, the game is over and you can start over again.
Step 7. Ask the culprit to confess at the end of the game which can be done by showing his ace
Tips
- Avoid gathering together in the dark. Otherwise, it will be more difficult to kill anyone and the game will become boring.
- Instead of having a "Detective" style game, you can ask all players, except the victims, to participate in a mafia-style voting game. All players must say their position and who they saw at the time of the kill. Then, all players must name several of the people they suspect, (the choices must be submitted) and each player chooses one name. The person who gets the most votes must say whether he is the real culprit or not. If not, you can start a new round.
- You can add a rule that allows the perpetrator to lie if the detective doesn't say "last charge" before asking.
- The way to kill people can also be done by pretending to stab them slowly in the chest that doesn't make a fuss.
Warning
- If the perpetrator covers his victim's mouth while whispering 'die', some people will be frightened, especially in the dark. So make sure all players are not afraid to play in the dark before starting.
- Make sure your eyes adjust to the darkness for at least thirty seconds before walking around in the dark so you don't hurt yourself.
