Learn how to wrap any type of hair on top of your head in a towel. Or, wrap the hair on the side of the head for those with thick or long hair. The towel will prevent any excess water from getting into your hair from getting on your clothes. In addition, your hands are also free to use to get ready while waiting for the hair to dry. The towel will also absorb the remaining water from the hair while keeping the hair away from your body. Wrapping your hair is also a great way to keep your head warm after a cold shower.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Wrapping Hair on Head
Step 1. Choose a towel with the right size
The towel you use should be long enough to pass over your shoulders when placed over your head. Your towel should also be wide enough so that it can cover the nape of the neck to the hairline. If the towel is much wider than your head, you can fold it in half to adjust the size. Instead, prepare a special towel to dry your hair. You may need to use a soft microfiber towel or an old t-shirt to dry your hair, as these can soften your hair.
- If your hair is short, use a shorter towel as well.
- Some people like to use thick towels because they feel soft and comfortable to wear. However, microfiber towels are more suitable for people with curly hair because they are gentler on the hair cuticles.
- You can also use a soft T-shirt to wrap your hair. As with microfiber towels, the finer material won't rub against the hair cuticles as much as a thick towel, so it can smooth the hair.
- You can also buy special towels for wrapping your hair from a store like Target. These special towels are made of absorbent microfiber and are lighter and easier to fit around your hair than regular towels.
Step 2. Pat the hair with a soft towel so that the remaining water does not drip
Do not let the remaining water drip out of the towel wrap. Use a towel to squeeze excess water out of your hair first. If your hair is thick, flip it over and squeeze the water out of the sections a little at a time. However, if your hair is thin or short, simply tilt your head to one side, then take half of your hair and press it between the folds of the towel to dry.
You can also buy gloves made of microfiber that are specifically designed for drying hair, such as towels. Put these gloves on and use them to wring out your hair and speed up drying
Step 3. Untangle the tangled hair
If your hair is straight, use a wide-toothed comb to untangle your hair and prep it before wrapping it in a towel. However, if you have curly hair, don't run your fingers through your hair too much so you don't ruin the curls. If you want to get a wavy look, you can skip this step, or simply collect your hair into sections to avoid damaging the wave pattern.
Hair will be very brittle when wet. So, avoid combing hair that is still wet. To help prevent breakage, comb your hair before shampooing. This will make tangled hair easier to untangle before wrapping it in a towel
Step 4. Flip the hair forward
Bend over from the waist, then use your hands to push the hair over your head so that it hangs upside down in front of your face.
Find a place that is roomy enough for you to bend over and flip your hair
Step 5. Wrap the towel around your head
Place the center of the towel at the nape of your neck or at the back of your hairline. Adjust both sides of the towel so they are the same length. Then, bring both sides of the towel to the center of the front hairline, holding them tightly. Keep both sides of the towel around the hairline so that it presses against your head slightly, but not too hard. If the towel presses too hard, you may have a headache.
Tuck the towel behind your ear. Some people like to pass the towel over their ears, but this will make it difficult for you to hear
Step 6. Twist the towel around your hair
Twist the towel in the same direction starting at the base of your head. With one hand, hold the towel in position, and with the other, wrap your hair. Twist the towel all the way to the ends of your hair. Leave it tight enough, but not too tight so you don't damage your hair.
Step 7. Keep the towel over your head
Straighten your body and flip the wrapped hair back behind your head. Pinch or tuck the end of the towel into the slit at the nape of the neck to hold it in position.
Step 8. Leave hair wrapped in a towel for 30-60 minutes
During this time, the towel should have enough to absorb the remaining water from your hair. If after an hour your hair is still wet, use another dry towel instead of the previous one until your hair feels dry enough.
Step 9. Bend your head forward and slowly unwrap the towel to release it
Bend from the waist and with your head bent forward, unwrap the towel from your hair so you can let your hair dry on its own. Untwist the towel, but leave it above your head. That way, when you hold your head up, you don't have to flip your hair back. Remove the towel from your head after you straighten yourself back up.
If your hair is very thick, use two towels to help dry it
Method 2 of 2: Wrapping the Hair on the Sides of the Head
Step 1. Pat your hair with a towel to prevent any excess water from dripping off
Use a soft towel, microfiber towel, or old T-shirt to remove excess water from the towel. Such a soft material can keep hair softer and reduce frizz than a regular towel. Instead, prepare a special towel to dry your hair.
Step 2. Untangle the tangled hair
If your hair is straight, use a wide-toothed comb to gently untangle it. If you have curly hair, don't over-comb your hair to avoid damaging the curls. If you want a wavy look, skip this step, or simply use your fingers to ruffle your hair into curls.
Step 3. Put all the hair behind the head
Grab your hair and place it behind your back. This is a great option if your head hurts when you wrap your hair over your head.
Step 4. Place a towel on your head
Place the towel in front of the hairline. Run the long side of the towel over your shoulder. Make sure the towels on both sides of the shoulders are the same length before starting to wrap them. If the towels are not the same length, you will have a hard time joining the ends together.
Step 5. Wrap the towel around your head
Take both sides of the towel and bring it toward the nape of the neck so that it is tightly wrapped around the head. Tuck the towel behind your ear so the hole doesn't get covered by the towel. Hold both ends of the towel tightly at the nape of your neck. Don't pull the towel too tight so you don't damage your hair.
Step 6. Twist the towel around your hair
Hold both sides of the towel tightly at the nape of your neck. Start twisting the towel around the hair on one side of your head in one direction. Continue to twist the towel all the way to the end. Be careful not to twist the towel too tightly around your hair.
Step 7. Guide the towel coil to one side
Take a twisted towel from behind your head, and carefully move it over one shoulder. You can use bobby pins to secure the ends of the towel, or simply hold them in one hand.
Step 8. Leave hair wrapped in a towel for 30-60 minutes or until it feels quite dry
If your hair is thick and needs more than 60 minutes to dry, use a new dry towel instead of a wet one. Leave the new towel wrapped around your hair until it feels dry enough to allow it to dry on its own or dry with a hairdryer.
