Each strand of hair has an inner cortex and a cuticle. The cuticle is composed of plates that resemble a roof. Hair will appear smooth when the position of these microscopic plates flat on the surface of the cortex. However, humidity, low hair humidity, friction, styling and chemical damage can change the position of the cuticles, causing frizz. Taking care of your hair before, during, and after a shower can help manage tangles, even in very humid and harsh weather.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Reducing the Habit that Triggers Frizzy Hair
Step 1. Use your fingers to comb the hair
Brushes and combs will create friction that can damage the hair shaft and make it more tangled. Hair breakage and frizz are more common if a dry brush is used on dry hair. To reduce frizz from brushing, use your fingers to untangle dry strands of hair.
If necessary, use a wide-toothed comb while in the shower to spread the conditioner all over your hair while untangling the curls. Avoid using a comb on dry hair
Step 2. Let the hair dry by itself instead of using a hairdryer
Allowing hair to dry on its own can help prevent frizz. Friction and heat are the main causes of frizz. So avoiding using tools and towels to dry your hair can help prevent frizz.
To keep the cuticles flat on dry hair, try putting your hair in a loose bun or braiding it until it dries. This will keep the hair shaft in position while preventing unruly hair and frizz during drying
Step 3. Avoid using towels
While drying your hair, use a T-shirt or microfiber cloth instead of a towel. A regular towel will add friction to your hair, making the tangle worse. T-shirts and microfiber cloths are softer and can help hold hair flat as it dries.
Step 4. Reduce the frequency of shampooing
Reducing the tangle of hair may be done by reducing the frequency of shampooing. Washing your hair too often can strip the natural oils from your hair and make it frizzy. Thin hair only needs to be washed every 2 days, and thick hair only needs to be washed every 3 days.
Step 5. Keep hands away from hair all day long
The more you touch your hair throughout the day, the more friction it receives. Touch can change the position of the cuticles and cause frizz. Try to avoid touching your hair, or turning it up and down throughout the day.
Method 2 of 3: Trying Anti-wrinkle Treatment
Step 1. Make an anti-wrinkle solution
If your hair tangles easily, try making a solution of conditioner and water to work your way through the ends of your hair. Mix about a tablespoon of conditioner with about a cup of water. Use your fingers to apply a small amount of this solution to the ends of your hair. Carry this solution with you wherever you go so you can use it to treat frizz, or make it part of your daily hair care routine.
Be sure to only apply this solution to the tips of your hair, not the roots
Step 2. Make a hair mask from avocado
Puree an avocado. Rub into clean, damp hair with your fingers. Leave it for 15 minutes. Rinse with water. The oil in avocado naturally coats your hair and protects it from damage and moisture. This oil will also lock in moisture to prevent dry hair. If you want to make an even more moisturised mask, mix the avocado with sour cream and egg yolk. Repeat this treatment every 2 weeks.
You can also use olive oil to make a hair mask. Heat the olive oil on the stove until it is warm enough but not too hot to the touch. Rub the oil into damp hair. Wait for 30 minutes. Continue with shampooing and using conditioner as usual
Step 3. Try a jojoba oil treatment
Jojoba oil is a natural vegetable oil that is widely sold as a hair moisturizer. This oil is especially beneficial for frizzy hair. Apply the oil to the hair under the ears, especially the ends which are more prone to breakage, once a week. Rubbing oil under your ears will also prevent your hair from looking limp.
Step 4. Smooth hair with coconut oil
Coconut oil has many benefits, and can be used on thick hair to retain moisture while preventing frizz. Apply coconut oil to clean, damp hair starting at the ends and working your way up. Stop in the middle of the hair shaft because using the oil around the scalp will make the hair look very oily.
Step 5. Blow cold air from the freezer onto your hair for a few minutes
Hair can tangle due to styling and hot weather. To keep your hair styled after styling, stand in front of the freezer for a minute. This way, your hair's cuticles will cool and gently set before you head outside, which may expose them to the sun and humidity.
Method 3 of 3: Using the Right Hair Care Products
Step 1. Avoid hair care products that contain alcohol
Hair care products such as hairspray can dry out your hair. Before buying any hair care product, pay attention to the alcohol content in the ingredient list. If so, don't buy the product.
Step 2. Limit the use of heating devices
Heating devices such as dryers, straighteners, or curling irons can cause damage that leads to frizz. The use of such tools often causes permanent damage to the hair. So you should only use it on special occasions.
- If you want to blow dry your hair, consider buying a diffuser to reduce direct heat exposure to your hair.
- When using a regular hairdryer, wait until your hair is 90% dry, then use a tool to dry the remaining 10%. Thus, heat damage to the hair can be reduced.
- Before using a heater, you may also want to consider using a special spray that protects your cuticles from the heat and locks in moisture. There are many products that can add protection to the cuticles so they are not easily damaged by direct heat exposure.
Step 3. Use dry shampoo in between washes
Regular use of shampoo will dry out your hair. In addition, friction during shampooing can also cause hair to tangle. Try using a dry shampoo between washes to get rid of the oil around your scalp. This dry shampoo will help reduce frizz by reducing the frequency of shampooing.
Step 4. Use styling products right after showering
Using styling products right after your shower can help lock in the moisture. Look for products that contain polymers and silicones so they can help fight humidity.
- For thin wavy hair, try using mousse. This product will not weigh much on the hair. For thicker hair, try using gels and creams that can maintain thicker curls.
- Be sure to prioritize using the product on frizzy ends. Work the product upwards to about halfway through the hair shaft. The ends of the hair dries faster, on the other hand, using products on the scalp will only make the hair look greasy.
