Some people with straight hair may be jealous of those with frizzy hair. As difficult as it may seem, you can turn straight hair into frizzy curls by curling them. You can also do it yourself at home by braiding your hair. However, the process of curling your hair will result in tighter curls while braiding your hair will make your curls appear wavy. So, the best way to determine which one is the best for you is to choose what hairstyle you want.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Getting Started
Step 1. Decide on the frizzy hairstyle you want
Once you've determined the style you want, you can determine how best to get it. By choosing a style, you can determine whether your hair needs to be lengthened or cut first. This way, if necessary, you can cut your hair beforehand to reduce the amount of hair that has to be turned into frizzy hair.
Step 2. Cut or lengthen the hair until it fits
To get frizzy hair from straight hair, you should start with hair that is at least 10-15 cm long. Your hair should be long enough to be braided or curled. However, if your hair is longer than 30 cm, you may need to trim it first to get frizzy hair that rises upwards.
Step 3. Wash your hair with your regular shampoo
Rinse hair until clean. Making sure your hair is clean and free of its natural oils is very important before starting. Clean hair is also easier to manage when braided or curled.
Method 2 of 3: By Curling
Step 1. Curl your hair at the salon
Observe the techniques used by the hairdresser. Observe the way they put the rollers in your hair. Pay attention to how long the chemical is left there. With this information, you can buy curling irons at the store and safely do them yourself at home.
Step 2. Ask for the smallest roller size
The stylist will use plastic rollers to curl your hair. Small rollers are best for creating tight frizzy hair. If the rollers are too big, your hair will turn out to be wavy, and not frizzy as you expected.
Step 3. Wait a few days until your curls are strong
Do not shampoo or comb your hair for a day or two after curling. Allowing your hair to curl up strong will help make it last longer while keeping your hair healthy.
Step 4. Comb your curls with a wide-toothed comb to separate them
The goal is to loosen the hair so it can be teased.
You can also use your fingers to gently separate the curls
Step 5. Comb curly hair with a fine-toothed comb
This will further separate the hair and make it more bouncy.
- Hold a small section of hair firmly with your fingers. Picking up a small section of hair like this will give you more volume, but it will take a little longer.
- Use a fine-toothed comb to brush the hair toward the scalp. Press a little to make the hair twist, but not so hard that it breaks.
- Repeat until the volume of hair in that section is to your liking.
Step 6. Style your frizzy hair
Get rid of the regular comb! Form frizzy hair with just your hands and a fork comb. Only spray hairspray to maintain a frizzy hairstyle if necessary. Since curly hair tends to dry out, you can apply shea butter or coconut fat to retain moisture and shine.
Method 3 of 3: By Braiding
Step 1. Part your hair into 6 or 8 equal sections from forehead to neck
Use a comb to help divide the hair into exact equal sections. Slightly damp hair will be easier to part. You can use ties or bobby pins to help separate sections of hair.
Step 2. Make a french braid on each section of hair
Ask someone else for help if you're having trouble braiding your own hair. This process will be faster if done by two people. Depending on how many sections of hair you're braiding, you may need a few hours to complete this step. So, it would be great to have someone else help and accompany you.
If your braid is thicker than 1 cm, you will need to part your hair into even smaller sections. Braids that are too thick will only make your hair wavy. Making very tight braids from smaller sections of hair will allow your frizzy hair to grow to its full potential
Step 3. Wet hair again and apply styling product
A growing mousse or setting lotion will help create strong, long-lasting curls.
To simplify this step, make a solution of 20% setting lotion or setting gel and 80% water. Then, use the solution to wet the braids
Step 4. Wrap your hair in a satin scarf to dry
- Start with wet or damp hair before bed, and you'll end up with frizzy hair when you wake up in the morning.
- If you don't want to wait, use a hairdryer to speed up the braid drying process.
Step 5. Remove the hair braid
Make sure the braid is completely dry before removing it. If your hair looks frizzy, apply moisturizer such as shea butter or coconut fat to another braid to make the process easier.
Step 6. Style your hair with your fingers
If you have long hair, bend over and let the weight of your hair and the force of gravity help with this process. Your hair should now appear curlier than before.
Step 7. Part each section of hair into 4 separate sections with a fine-toothed comb
Part one section of your hair. Teasing small sections of hair will create more volume than pulling larger sections of hair.
Step 8. Squeeze each small section of hair gently until you get the frizzy style you expect
Use a fine-toothed comb to work the hair from the ends to the scalp to separate each strand. Your strands will be twisted together, giving volume to frizzy hair. Repeat until the volume is to your liking.
Don't press too hard when teasing hair. Don't break your hair
Step 9. Use hair styling products if necessary
You only need a little hairspray to maintain a frizzy hairstyle. Bring a fork comb to detangle your hair and look great wherever you go.
Tips
- If you choose to use styling products, try to use natural products that won't do any damage to your hair.
- If you want to make a cornrow braid, part your hair into small sections and then make a French braid.
- If your hair is coarse or very dry, rub a few drops of jojoba oil or olive oil into your hair to soften it.
- If you want to keep your curls longer, avoid shampoos that contain silicone. Only use shampoos and conditioners specifically for hair after chemical treatments.
- Sleep with your hair loose and don't brush your hair for several days. You can also leave the cornrow braid for a week, as long as it's not too tight and not too loose.
Warning
- Don't try to use a product you have doubts about.
- Permanent curling and squeezing can cause serious damage to the hair.
- Be careful leaving the cornrow braid for long periods of time (though overnight should be fine). If there's not enough sebum from your scalp, you'll need to apply an oil (like jojoba oil) and not leave it on for too long just in case. Otherwise, the braid will shrivel up if it gets wet while swimming, in the rain, or in the shower. This can cause skin irritation and in extreme cases, scalp injury.
