This wikiHow teaches you how to reset a forgotten Facebook password. To do this, you must be able to access the email address or phone number associated with the Facebook account. Facebook passwords can be reset using the mobile device app or via the Facebook website.
Step
Method 1 of 2: On a Desktop Computer
Step 1. Visit the Facebook site
Visit to open the Facebook login page.
Step 2. Click Forgot account?
This link is below the " Password " text box at the top right of the page. The "Find your account" page will be opened.
Step 3. Enter your phone number or email address
Click the text box in the middle of the page, then type in the email address or cell phone number associated with your account.
If you didn't add your phone number to Facebook, use an email address
Step 4. Click Search under the text box
By doing so, Facebook will search for your account.
Step 5. Specify account reset options
Choose one of the options below:
- Send code via email - You will receive a code containing a six-digit number in the email address used to log into Facebook.
- Send code via SMS - You will receive a code containing a six-digit number on the mobile number associated with your Facebook profile.
- Use my Google account - With this option, you can log into your Google account to verify your identity. This could skip the code reset process.
Step 6. Click Continue
Clicking on it will send the code to an email or text message. A window will be opened when you select a method Use my Google account.
Step 7. Get the code
Depending on the account reset option selected, the process will vary:
- E-mail - Open your email inbox, search for the email from Facebook, and write down the six-digit number in the subject line.
- SMS - Open message on your phone, look for a text message from the sender that has a 5 or 6 digit number, then note the six-digit code in the text message.
- Google account - Enter email address and password.
Step 8. Enter the code
Type the six-digit code into the "Enter code" field, then click Continue. The password reset page will open.
If you chose the Google account method to reset your password, skip this step
Step 9. Type in the new password
Type your password into the " New password " text field at the top of the page. From now on, you must use this password to log into Facebook on all devices.
Step 10. Click Continue
The password change will be saved. Now you can log in to the Facebook app or Facebook site using the new password.
Method 2 of 2: On Mobile Devices
Step 1. Start Facebook
It's a dark blue app with a white "f" in it. The login page will open.
Step 2. Touch Need Help?
This link is below the email address and password. This will open a menu.
Step 3. Touch Forgot Password?
which is in the menu.
A site page for resetting Facebook password will be opened.
Step 4. Type in your email address or mobile number
Tap the text box at the top of the page, then type in the email address or phone number associated with your account.
- If you didn't add a phone number to Facebook, use an email address.
- If you don't know which email address to use and haven't entered your phone number into Facebook, tap Search by your name instead and type in your full name as it appears on Facebook.
Step 5. Touch Search
This blue button is located below the text box. By doing so, Facebook will search for your account.
Step 6. Decide on a method to recover the account
Tap one of the account recovery options at the top of the page. If you are searching by name, first touch This is Me to the right of your profile. There are two options for recovering your account:
- Send code via email - Facebook will send a reset code to the email address associated with the Facebook account.
- Send code via SMS - Facebook will send a reset code to the mobile number associated with your Facebook profile.
Step 7. Touch Continue
It's a dark blue button below the account recovery options. By doing so, Facebook will send you the code via email or text message.
Step 8. Get the code for your account
Depending on the reset method chosen, the process will vary:
- E-mail - Open your e-mail inbox, find the message sent by Facebook, then write down the six-digit code in the subject line.
- SMS - Open message on your phone, look for a text message from the sender that has a 5 or 6 digit number, then look for the six-digit code in the text message.
Step 9. Enter the code
Tap the "Enter your six-digit code" text box, then type in the six-digit code you got from the email or text message sent by Facebook.
Step 10. Tap Continue at the bottom of the text box
The code you entered will be sent, and a page for creating a new password will be opened.
Step 11. Type in the new password
Enter the new password into the text box at the top of the page.
Step 12. Touch Continue
Doing so will reset your password and replace it with a new one. You can now log into the Facebook app or Facebook site using the new password.
