This article will guide you to temporarily deactivate your Instagram account. When your account is deactivated, other users can't access your profile or posts, but your account won't be completely deleted. By deactivating your account, other users can't claim your username, and you don't have to back up your photos and videos. When you restore your account, all of your photos and videos will be accessible again. Unfortunately, you can't temporarily deactivate your account via the Instagram app.

Method 1 of 2: Temporarily Deactivating Instagram Account
Step 1. Visit
If you are logged in, you will see the main Instagram page.
If you are not logged into your account, click Log in at the bottom of the page, then enter your username and password. After that, click Log in
Step 2. Click the person icon in the top right corner of the page to access your profile
Step 3. Click the Edit Profile button right next to your username
This link is at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Scroll through the page, then click the Temporarily disable my account link at the bottom right of the Edit Profile page
Step 5. Check one of the check boxes under Why are you disabling your account? Here you can choose the reason for deactivating the account.
Step 6. Enter the Instagram password in the To continue, please re-enter your password text box
Step 7. Click the Temporarily Disable Account button at the bottom of the page
Step 8. Click OK when prompted
Your account will be deactivated, and you will be automatically logged out of Instagram across all devices.
Method 2 of 2: Restoring Account
Step 1. Log in to Instagram with your account
When you log back in, your account will be activated. If you sign in via the website, you'll still need to enter your account information on the other device.
Tips
- You can activate and deactivate your account at any time by following the guide above.
- You will have to wait a few hours before you can reactivate your account. If you can't restore your account, wait a few hours for the deactivation process to complete, then try activating your account again.
