Kool Aid often stains the hands, mouth, and skin. Kool Aid can usually be cleaned with just soap and water. However, if that doesn't work, there are other ways that are worth trying. Kool Aid stains on your skin can be removed using products at home.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Choosing a Stain Cleaner
Step 1. Prioritize toothpaste
Toothpaste is considered the best Kool Aid stain removal tool. If there is toothpaste near you, go this way first. Toothpaste with whitening is the best choice because it is intended to remove stains on your teeth and skin. Look for toothpaste that contains Blue Covarine because it works the fastest. Toothpaste can be washed off when the stain on the skin is clean.
Step 2. Use oil
If you don't have toothpaste, try using oil. Oil is usually used to remove paint from the skin so it should also be used to clean Kool Aid. Here are some oils that can remove Kool Aid stains:
- Olive oil
- Vegetable oil
- baby oil
Step 3. Try the products in the kitchen
Some products in the kitchen can be used to remove paint, so they should also be effective for cleaning Kool Aid. Mix acidic kitchen products (such as vinegar or citrus preparations) with water and avoid contact with the wound. Here are some kitchen products that can be used:
- lime juice
- Salt
- Vinegar
Step 4. Wash with dish soap
Dish soap is strong enough to clean dirt and grease on dishes and other cutlery. Therefore, a little dish soap might be able to remove the Kool Aid stain on your skin. Wash the stain on the skin with warm water and a little dish soap if none of the other methods have worked.
Part 2 of 3: Cleaning Stains
Step 1. Wash your hands
Wash both hands if the Kool Aid stain is there. Just replace hand soap with stain remover.
- Flush hands with clean water until wet before turning off the faucet. Kool Aid may drip from your hands and contaminate the sink. Therefore, cover the sink with a small towel or paper towel before washing your hands.
- Use your stain remover. Once your hands are wet, apply the stain remover of your choice to your hands and rub them in until they lather. Do it for 20 seconds (sing the song “Happy Birthday” twice as a reference).
- Rinse both hands with water and dry.
Step 2. Clean the stain on the upper lip
Often times, Kool Aid leaves a stain on the upper lip after taking it. This is usually called the “Kool Aid Mustache” and it's pretty easy to clean.
- Apply a small amount of stain remover to a damp cloth. If you use acidic products, such as vinegar or lime juice, just add a few drops to keep your skin from irritating.
- Gently pat the wet cloth until the stain is gone.
- Rinse your upper lip with cold water and pat dry.
Step 3. Clean the stains at the hairline
Often times, people use Kool Aid to dye their hair and accidentally stain the hairline. To clean it, you can mix the stain remover with shampoo and shampoo with this mixture. Make sure your hair is thoroughly rinsed as some stain removers, such as toothpaste, are quite difficult to remove from hair. Maybe you should wash your hair twice: once with a mixture of stain remover and shampoo, and the second with just shampoo.
Part 3 of 3: Cleaning Kool Aid Elsewhere
Step 1. Clean the Kool Aid from the cloth
If your clothes have also been exposed to Kool Aid, washing them in the washing machine may not be enough. There are a few tricks to removing Kool Aid stains, but:
- Add liquid detergent to the stained area before placing the fabric in the washing machine. After that, rinse with cold water. Try not to use warm water because the color of the fabric can fade.
- Put the cloth in the washing machine. The stain should be clean when you're done washing it in the machine.
Step 2. Remove the Kool Aid from the carpet
If Kool Aid spills onto the carpet, cleaning may be quite difficult. Use water, dish soap, and vinegar to clean Kool Aid stains on carpets.
- Mix two cups of cold water, one tablespoon of dish soap, and one tablespoon of vinegar.
- Use a rag to clean the stains on the carpet. Scrub the carpet until the stain is absorbed or gone.
- Take a new washcloth and dampen it then rub it into the carpet to remove the cleaning solution from the carpet.
Step 3. Clean the Kool Aid from the furniture
Use a solution with a carpet cleaning solution. Rub the spot until the stain is gone or absorbed. Then, use a new, damp washcloth to remove the stain remover solution from the furniture.
Tips
- Don't let the stain stay on the skin for too long. The longer the stain stays, the more difficult it will be to clean the stain.
- Nail polish remover can remove stains quickly, but the skin will be sore, especially if there is a cut in the area of the stain. Use with care.
