This wikiHow teaches you how to add emoji options to your iPhone's keyboard, and how to use them. Emoji keyboard is available on all iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 5 or later. Since the current version of iOS is iOS 11, your iPhone or iPad usually supports the use of emojis.

Part 1 of 2: Enabling the Emoji Keyboard
Step 1. Open the iPhone settings menu (“Settings”)
Tap the “Settings” app icon which looks like a gray box with gears.
Step 2. Swipe the screen and touch
"General".
This option is at the top of the “Settings” page.
Step 3. Swipe the screen and touch Keyboard
This option is at the bottom of the " General " page.
Step 4. Touch Keyboards
It's at the top of the screen. After that, a list of currently active keyboards on the device will be displayed.
Step 5. Look for Emoji keyboard in this list
If you see an option labeled “ Emoticon ” in the list of keyboards at the top of the screen, the Emoji keyboard is already active on the device and you can proceed to the step of using the keyboard. If not, stick with this method.
Step 6. Touch Add New Keyboard…
It's in the center of the screen. After that, a list of available keyboards will be displayed.
Step 7. Swipe the screen and touch Emoji
You can find this option in the "E" section of the keyboard page. Once touched, the emoji option will immediately be added to the iPhone keyboard.
Step 8. Close the settings menu
Press the “Home” button at the bottom of the device screen to close the menu. Now, you can use emoji from your device's keyboard.
Part 2 of 2: Using Emojis When Typing
Step 1. Open an app that supports text typing
Any app that has a text field (e.g. Messages, Facebook, Notes, etc.) can display the device's keyboard.
Step 2. Keyboard display
Touch a text field or typing option to display it. The device's keyboard will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Step 3. Touch the emoji icon
It's a smiley face icon in the lower-left corner of the keyboard. After that, the Emoji keyboard will be displayed.
If your device has more than one additional keyboard (up to three), touch and hold the globe icon, then drag your finger on the “ Emoticon ”.
Step 4. Select the emoji category
Tap one of the visual tabs at the bottom of the screen to display the emoji categories, or swipe from right to left to browse the available emoji options.
Step 5. Select an emoji
Touch the emoji you want to add to the text field.
Step 6. Touch ABC
It's in the lower-left corner of the screen. After that, you will be taken back to the normal keyboard view.
