This wikiHow teaches you how to save a Google Sheets file on your computer. Google Sheets will automatically save your work progress. However, you can also save Google Sheets files to your computer or Google Drive.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Saving Files to Google Drive
Step 1. Visit
If you're not signed in to your Google account, follow the on-screen instructions to sign in.
Step 2. Click the sheet you want to save
Step 3. Click the File button
It's in the upper-left corner of the screen.
Step 4. Click Make a copy…
Step 5. Write down the file name
Initially, the file will have the same name as before. However, the phrase “Copy of” will be added at the beginning of the file name. Changing the file name is not mandatory.
Step 6. Select the Google Drive folder
Click the menu under “Folder” and then select the desired location.
Step 7. Click OK
Now, this Google Sheets file is saved in your Google Drive folder.
Method 2 of 2: Downloading Files to Computer
Step 1. Visit
If you're not signed in to your Google account, follow the on-screen instructions to sign in.
Step 2. Click the sheet file that you want to download
Step 3. Click the File menu
It's in the upper-left corner of the screen.
Step 4. Click Download as
Another menu will appear.
Step 5. Select the format for the file to be downloaded
If you want to edit the file in the form of a spreadsheet at a later date, select the format Microsoft Excel (.xlsx).
Step 6. Select the destination folder
This is the folder that will store the files on your computer.
Step 7. Click Save
The Google Sheets file will be downloaded and saved in the selected folder. This file format will also match the one you selected earlier.
