Feeling bored is actually a sign that a change is needed. If you're feeling bored right now, or are bored all the time, or worried that you'll be bored later, there are things you can do now to harness your energy and produce something beautiful.

Method 1 of 4: Removing Boredom at Home
Step 1. Find new music
Read new music websites, look up playlists of your favorite musicians, or listen to websites that can give you new ideas. Check your social media accounts and tell yourself to listen to the first song a friend posts. Listen to the song, and if you don't like it, find another song.
- Find your favorite music artists and find out who influenced their music. You may be surprised to hear the music that accompanies your idols as they grow up.
- Or, check your playlist for something you haven't listened to in a long time. Get nostalgic by listening to memorable songs.
Step 2. Read something
Read novels, comics, or poetry. Check the bookshelves at home for books to read. Read online magazine articles on topics that interest you. If you can't find an interesting book at home, go to the nearest library. If you can't find the book you want, try another library. You can ask the librarian for help, or look for it on the library's website.
- Read something at a higher level. If you are a good reader and tired of books for young adults (Young Adult), read books written for adults. You can learn something by reading a difficult book, and it is often more interesting to read a book you don't understand than a book you think is very easy.
- Read YA books by old authors. Before the YA genre became popular, writers such as Diana Wynne Jones, Tove Jansson, Roald Dahl, and Noel Streatfeild wrote novels for children that teens and adults alike could read.
Step 3. Meditate
If you run out of ideas and don't know what else to do, try to clear your mind. Do concentration meditation that requires you to focus on only one thing, such as a candle flame, a flower, or a repetitive motion. Center your mind for a few minutes. If your mind starts to wander, remind yourself to refocus on what you are doing.
Do mindfulness meditation which requires you to focus on all the senses. Pay attention to your breathing, what each part of your body feels, and what you hear, see, smell and feel
Step 4. Relive your childhood
Think back to the things that made you happy as a child. Build a fort out of pillows, dismantle long-forgotten stuffed animals, or try remembering and writing down an imaginary game that once fascinated you. Find an old drawing and try to draw it again, and believe me it will be more difficult than you think.
- Look through old photo albums and find out what trends your parents loved when they were your age.
- Look at photos of your baby and try to imitate the same poses with the lighting, clothing and facial expressions as closely as possible.
Step 5. Call someone you haven't spoken to in a long time
You can call your grandfather or old friend who has moved to another city. Ask a variety of questions to see how he's doing at the moment. Ask him what he's been thinking about lately, what worries him, and what he's busy with.
Step 6. Watch something unusual
If you usually watch comedy, try watching documentaries. If you usually watch television shows, try watching feature-length films. Don't limit yourself to what's suggested: check out our lists of the best films of all time, the most amazing films ever made, the most beautiful animated films, documentaries featuring world-changing things. Watch comedies set in the 1930s and watch how humor changes over time.
If you need another guide, choose a film based on certain rules. For example, use the Bechdel test. You may only watch the film if it meets the requirements of (1) starring at least two female actors (2) featuring at least one scene of shared conversation (3) about anything other than men
Step 7. Make a schedule
It might sound boring, but think about it: boredom makes you feel like you're in an endless desert of time. A schedule helps you make good use of the time you have. Think about what you have to do today (homework, chores), what you want to do today, and then write down a schedule for those things. Enter something standard, like “lunch”.
Step 8. Accept the boredom
Boredom may not be fun, but it can be rewarding. If you are busy or have entertainment all the time, you will not have time to contemplate something that could change your life. When you are bored, you subconsciously rethink your life and set new goals. If you are never bored, you will not change. So think further: think about the things that bore you, and think about what to change.
- For example, if you are always alone after school, now might be a good time to join an after-school organization.
- If you are bored because you don't have many friends, make it a goal to make new friends.
- If you're feeling bored because you've lost interest in activities you normally enjoy, or you can't focus on anything, it could be stressing you out. If you're feeling anxious and bored, there's a good chance you have ADHD. Talk to your parents or doctor to deal with this boredom problem.
Method 2 of 4: Removing Boredom in the Outside World
Step 1. Go on a wander
Instead of just taking a walk, go wandering. Instead of going for walks in the places you usually go, go places that you don't know well. Use public transportation to go to parks, lakes, or other natural places you've never been. Bring your cell phone, bring a friend if you want, and don't forget to let your family know you're going out for a walk.
Take a map and draw a winding path on it without looking. Challenge yourself to walk along the path you drew as accurately as possible. Make sure the path takes you back home
Step 2. Visit foreign shops
Is there a city center or shopping center where you live? Go to a store you never enter. Challenge yourself to find something you like in each store. No need to buy anything, but try to imagine what you would buy if you were to shop there. Every store sells an image. So, think about whether the image can be adapted to you or not.
For example, you can visit a vintage shop and explore the fashions that were popular in the past and old technology. Imagine what it would be like to wear a corset, wear a hat every day, or “dial” a phone number
Step 3. Have a picnic
Invite a friend to accompany you on a picnic, and pack a bag or basket filled with food and drink, a picnic blanket, and maybe a fun book or two. You can provide all your picnic needs yourself, or ask a friend to bring an item or two (drinks, fruit) and the rest is up to you.
- Visit a farmer's market or convenience store together and pick 3-6 items together. You can get new bread, apples, cheese, chocolate, carrots, and dipping sauce, for example.
- Go on a picnic to a green and quiet place or a place that has a beautiful view.
- Go up hills if possible. Dine on a picnic meal at the top of a hill or at the end of a hiking trail. Don't forget to bring enough drinking water!
Method 3 of 4: Making Something
Step 1. Make a magazine
Keep a casual journal with friends or alone and publish it monthly or every two weeks. You can write magazine content yourself, solicit contributions from others, and even share editing responsibilities with friends. For example: he can take on responsibility for art and poetry, while you contribute opinion articles and book reviews.
- You can enter the following content for the magazine: show reviews, books, films, and music albums, accept poetry contributions, photos and drawings, lists, trivia, humor, political commentary, and fashion tips.
- Keep the punk "magazine" spirit and make it your image. You only need a copier and a stapler.
- Share magazines with members of your community. Leave magazines in the lobby, common room, or tuck them on the magazine rack in the store.
- Magazines are fun because they really represent the place where the magazine was produced. Ask for contributions from people you meet each week, such as the superintendent, your favorite barista, children you have looked after, your grandmother, and so on.
Step 2. Create a website design
Learn how to build a website from scratch, or use the templates provided by blogging sites. Your personal website can showcase your work and tastes, or be an online journal. You can also start creating an online magazine instead of a print magazine, and solicit contributions from strangers around the world.
Step 3. Try a new recipe
Look for some basic recipes that you've never tried. What is the basic recipe like? Try to find a recipe that consists of 3-5 ingredients. For example, you can make flatbread with just water, flour and salt. Or, you can make truffles out of tahini, cocoa powder, and dates. You can also make an omelet with just eggs, butter, and salt.
- Cook without a recipe. Use easy ingredients and experiment. Try making something you've tasted in restaurants, or make your favorite food with a new twist.
- Do not forget to clean the equipment used. Cooking would be more fun if there were no piles of dirty utensils after you were done.
Step 4. Create the artwork
Do you like to draw, write, dance or sing? Provide the space and materials needed and make something. Start experimenting with the media you use: move to the music, doodle, write as you please. If you don't have any ideas, give yourself a lure. For example, if you're writing, start with a line from your favorite song.
- Make something you can use, like a notebook or scarf.
- Make art for someone. Make a card, write a beautiful letter, or make a painting for someone you care about. If you know someone who is going through a difficult time, do something for them.
- Make a movie. Make a feature-length film about something interesting. It doesn't matter if you want to be in the film or you can focus on other people, animals, or the things you observe. Try capturing a portrait of a place with the camera, for example the amazing, ordinary, ugly, crowded and quiet places in your neighborhood.
- Write fan fiction. Take characters from your favorite book or show, and write adventures for them. Choose a less important character and assign the main role to him.
Step 5. Form a musical group
Gather friends who like music and have the same taste as you, then form a band. It would be even better if you could play a musical instrument. It doesn't take much to make a sound: you can make a simple drum, sing along, and one of your friends out there might be able to play the guitar.
Method 4 of 4: Be Useful
Step 1. Plant something
If you have extra space in your home that could be turned into a garden, see what can grow well there in the local climate. If you don't have space for a garden, you can find a place for plant boxes, pots, or window pots. Herbs and flowers don't take up much space. If the climate where you live is dry, choose a succulent that is beautiful and minimal maintenance.
Gardens require commitment. So start with a few plants if you don't want to be responsible for an army of cucumbers. Plant one plant in a pot, and if it grows well, then you can start working the soil
Step 2. Volunteer
You can offer to volunteer at a place that interests you. Places such as elementary schools, schools for people with special needs, hospitals, and retirement communities often need volunteers. You can also volunteer for temporary organizations, such as political campaigns or fundraising events.
Ask if someone you know needs help. Just do it now. Ask your parents, grandparents, or neighbors
Step 3. Find a job
Making money and learning new skills can make you happy and useful. Go to the workplace by bicycle or by bus and ask if they need additional workers. Look for job vacancies on the internet. Ask for tips from other family members: they may know someone who can help you find a job that isn't advertised.
Start your own business. Sell homemade crafts online, sell cakes at school, or call neighbors or family acquaintances and ask if they need help with babysitting, keeping cats company, tending plants, walking the dog, mowing the lawn, or washing the car
Step 4. Do a random favor
Do something unexpected and it will be rewarded. Deliver flowers or candy at your best friend's house, or wash the family car. Offer to accompany your sister to play her favorite game even if you think the game is boring. You've been hit by boredom, why not enjoy boredom in a sweet way.
