This wikiHow teaches you how to get Siri, Apple's personal voice assistant, to contact you with your name or nickname.

Method 1 of 3: Activating Siri on iPhone or iPad
Step 1. Open Settings
It's a gray app with a gear icon (⚙️) and it's usually on the home screen.
Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network and that "Airplane Mode" is disabled. Siri requires internet access to function
Step 2. Scroll down and tap Siri
It's in the same segment as the " General " and " Battery " menus.
Step 3. Slide "Siri" to "On" position
The button will turn green.
- Turn on Access When Locked (access when locked) to use Siri when the phone is in lock mode.
- Turn on Allow "Hey Siri" (allow "Hey Siri") to access Siri by simply saying "Hey Siri" on the device.
Step 4. Tap Language
It's in the last segment of the menu.
Step 5. Choose a language
To do this, tap the language you want to use.
Step 6. Tap Siri
It's in the upper-left corner of the screen.
Step 7. Tap on My Info
It's at the end of the menu.
Step 8. Tap on your contact info
This step will tell Siri what information is yours.
- Siri uses contact information to dial names and execute commands such as sending letters.
- If you haven't created your own contact card, open the Contacts app from the home screen, tap +, enter the information, and tap Done (finished).
Step 9. Press the Home button
It's a circular button on the face of the device, at the bottom of the screen. Now you can use Siri on your device.
Method 2 of 3: Enabling Siri on Mac
Step 1. Click the Apple menu
It's a black apple-shaped icon at the top left of the screen.
Step 2. Click System Preferences
This is the second segment in the drop-down menu.
Step 3. Click Siri
It's at the bottom left of the menu.
Step 4. Tick "Enable Siri" (enable Siri)
This option is in the left pane of the dialog box.
Step 5. Click the Language menu
It's in the top right of the dialog box pane.
Step 6. Select the language
To do this, click the language you want to use in the drop-down menu.
Step 7. Check "Show Siri in menu bar" (show Siri in menu bar)
It's located at the bottom of the right pane of the dialog box.
Step 8. Close the dialog box
To do this, click the red dot in the upper left corner. Siri is now active on the Mac.
Step 9. Open the Contacts app
This app has a brown icon with a silhouette of a person and a colored label on the right.
Step 10. Click on contact info
Siri uses your contact information to call out names and execute commands such as sending emails.
If you haven't created your own contact card, click +, enter the information, and click Done.
Step 11. Click Card
This is the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Step 12. Click Make This My Card
It's in the center of the screen. Siri will now "know" who you are.
Method 3 of 3: Telling Siri How to Call You
Step 1. Activate Siri
Do this by pressing and holding the Home button until you see the sentence, "What can I help you with ?" (what can I do for you?) on the screen or by saying "Hey Siri", if you have the voice activation function activated.
On a Mac, click the Siri icon in the menu bar, in the upper-right corner of the screen
Step 2. Tell Siri your nickname
Speak clearly into your device's microphone and say, "Siri, call me …" (Siri, call me…) followed by the name or nickname you want to use.
Step 3. Say "Ok"
Siri will confirm your nickname. If what he said was correct, say "Ok" into your device's microphone.
- If Siri doesn't sound right, say "No," and try again, this time saying it slowly and more clearly.

If Siri is having trouble pronouncing your name, open the Contacts app from your home/desktop screen.
- On an iPhone or iPad tap the name at the top of the screen (the word "My Card" will appear below it). On a Mac, click Card then Go to My Card (go to my card).
- Click on or tap Edit. It's in the top right corner of the device, and the bottom right corner on the Mac.
- On iPhone or iPad, scroll down and click or tap add field (add box). On a Mac, click Card then click Add Field.
- Tap Phonetic [first or last] name on your iPhone or iPad. On a Mac, click Phonetic First/Last Name.
- Scroll to the top of the card and click or tap the added phonetic box.
- Spell your name phonetically.
- Click or tap Done''. It's in the top-right corner of your iPhone or iPad and in the bottom-right of your Mac.
