Measuring your own height is easy, as long as you know how. You can also measure it any time you want. Read this article to find out how to measure your height quickly and accurately.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using a Tape Measure
Step 1. Gather the tools needed to measure yourself
Make sure you have the following tools:
- Tape measure, ruler, or tape measure
- Mirror
- Pencil
- Small box or thick book
Step 2. Choose the right place to measure yourself
Pick a location that meets the following requirements:
- Look for a flat, bare floor next to a wall.
- Find a place where you can stand with your back against the wall.
- Find a place where you can put a small pencil mark on the wall.
- Stand on a hard floor made of concrete, tile, or wood. Avoid floors covered with carpets or rugs.
- Try to find a spot next to a door or in a corner so that your tape measure can be used as a guide.
- Try to find a location opposite the mirror so you don't have to use a hand mirror.
Step 3. Prepare yourself before measuring your height
Do the following:
- Take off your socks and shoes. Measure your height when barefoot as flip-flops, sandals, and even socks will affect the measurement results.
- Get everything off your head. Don't wear hats, headbands, or tie your hair. Let your hair loose.
- Stand with your feet together and your back against the wall. Stand as straight as possible with your heels, back, shoulders, and head touching the wall. Lift your chin and look straight ahead.
Step 4. Follow the steps below to measure yourself
Make sure you can reach the items you need when measuring yourself.
- Hold the box in one hand and the mirror and pencil in the other.
- Lift the small box over your head and attach it to the wall.
- Use a mirror to make sure the box is parallel to the floor and perpendicular to the wall, forming a right angle. Do not tilt the box as this will result in inaccurate measurements.
Step 5. Mark the tip of your head on the wall with a pencil
Make sure not to move the box or your finger while doing this.
- Mark the bottom of your box on the wall. Hold the box position and try to move from under the box.
- Try to place your finger under the box and hold it in position as you move around.
- You can make marks without moving from your position.
Step 6. Measure the length from the floor to the pencil mark with a measuring tape
Keep the tape measure against the wall.
- If your tape measure is too short to measure your full height, try to measure as high as possible and make a pencil mark on the wall.
- Record the measurement results.
- Keep measuring until you reach the pencil mark you made with the square.
- Add up these measurements to get your height.
Method 2 of 3: Using a Temporary Ruler
Step 1. Make your own ruler using ten thousand rupiah notes, thread, tape, and marker
Measure your height using a temporary ruler if you don't have a measuring tape or standard ruler.
- Consider this method if you need to know your height quickly and don't have time to find a ruler.
- This measurement is not absolute.
Step 2. Use the paper money in your help to make your ruler
Making a ruler using ten thousand notes is very easy because ten thousand notes in Indonesia (new design 2005 emission year) has a length of 145 mm.
- Put the money next to the thread. Put the money and ruler in your hand.
- Mark the end of the money on the thread with a marker and repeat until it reaches 180 cm.
- Use another paper if you don't have ten thousand.
Step 3. Use a temporary ruler as you would a regular ruler
Attach a piece of string to the wall using masking tape.
- Make sure not to cut the thread.
- Stand straight with your feet and back against the wall.
- Mark the end of your head on the thread.
- Look at the thread to find out your height.
Method 3 of 3: Using a Stadiometer
Step 1. Find a stadiometer to help measure your height
Look for a stadiometer in the doctor's office or in the gym.
- Look for a digital stadiometer as much as possible. Using a digital stadiometer can give more accurate results.
- Look for a stadiometer consisting of a ruler and a flat slider that you can adjust to rest on your head.
- Try asking your doctor to measure your height with a stadiometer.
Step 2. Prepare yourself before measuring your height
Do the following:
- Take off your socks and shoes. Measure your height when barefoot as flip-flops, sandals, and even socks will affect the measurement results.
- Get everything off your head. Don't wear hats, headbands, or tie your hair. Lean on the stadiometer to keep your hair even.
- Stand on the stadiometer platform with your feet and back against the wall. Stand as straight as possible with your heels, back, shoulders, and head touching the wall. Lift your chin and look straight ahead
Step 3. Adjust the stadiometer measuring arm above your head
The measuring arm can move up and down.
- Make sure that the measuring arm is working properly before measuring yourself.
- You may need to fold the measuring arm so that it is perpendicular to the floor.
Step 4. Look at your height on the stadiometer
Move away from under the measuring arm once you have adjusted it properly and seen the measurement result.
- Your height will be shown on the vertical pole of the stadiometer.
- Look at the arrow pointing to the measurement under the measuring arm.
- The digital stadiometer will display your height on a small screen.
