Even if you don't have a tape measure, there are many ways to measure your height. First, mark your height on the wall. You can do it yourself, but it's easier to do it with friends. Use a ruler to measure the distance from the floor to the mark. If you don't have a ruler, use some commonly used items, such as bills, standard-size printing paper, or your own feet, to measure the walls.

Part 1 of 2: Marking High on the Wall
Step 1. Remove any shoes and hair accessories that might be a hassle
You will measure from the top of your head. So, remove high ponytails or braids that can add height. Take your shoes off as they can add a few inches in height depending on the type of shoe.
If you wear thick socks, take them off too
Step 2. Stand with your back to the wall on a carpet-free floor
Make sure your feet are tight and flat on the floor. Your heels should be parallel to the wall. It's easier to have someone else help you measure, but you can do it yourself too.
- Do not stand on a rug or mat as it will sink slightly when you stand on it and may affect the measurement result.
- Avoid moldy walls or walls with radiators as they will prevent you from being completely parallel to the wall.
Step 3. Place the book above your head at a right angle to the wall
You can use flat, firm household items, such as a cutting board or cardboard box. If you have a friend, ask him to hold the item.
If you are alone, you can use an aerosol, such as shaving cream or room freshener. Press the bottom against the wall so you get the right angle
Step 4. Slide down the object you are using until it hits your head
Whatever item you wear, it should be firmly attached to the top of your head. Always make sure that it is at the right angle to the wall when a friend or you slides an object down until it hits your head.
Step 5. Mark the point where the top of your head meets the bottom end of the object with a pencil
If you're with a friend, ask him to mark the wall while your body is still against the wall. If you are alone, hold the object in place, turn it over, and mark its location.
Use a pencil so you can erase the marks from the wall when you're done
Part 2 of 2: Finding Objects That Can Be Used to Measure Height
Step 1. Measure the distance from the floor to the pencil mark using a ruler
Place one end of the ruler flat on the floor and position the ruler vertically against the wall. Mark the top end of the ruler with a pencil then move the ruler up so that the bottom end sticks with the pencil mark. Remark the top end of the ruler.
- Repeat this process until the ruler reaches your height mark.
- It's easier to record each measurement on a different piece of paper so you can add up all of them.
- This is the most simple and accurate way to measure height without a meter.
Step 2. Print a ruler for a more accurate alternative measurement tool
There are several 30 cm ruler templates that you can download and print. Use your printed ruler as if you were using a wooden or plastic ruler to measure the distance from the floor to your height mark.
- In addition to the original ruler, this will provide the most accurate height measurement results.
- You can also download a ruler application to your mobile phone if you don't have a printer that you can use.
Step 3. Use the banknote to measure the distance to your height mark
There are seven banknotes in circulation in Indonesia, namely 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, and 100,000. Apart from the fractions 1,000 and 2,000, they all have different lengths. Use whatever shards you have. Press the bill flat against the wall and slide it down until one of its short ends is snug against the floor. Mark the top of the note on the wall with a pencil. Slide it up until the bottom edge is aligned with the mark you made earlier then put a new mark on the wall just above the top edge of the bill.
- Continue until you reach the height mark.
- You may have to use the width of the note, 66 mm, to measure down to the last centimeter of your height.
- You can also fold the bill in half to measure a distance of about 32.5 mm or in quarters to measure a distance of about 16.25 mm.
Step 4. Create an alternative measurement tool using printer paper
Standard A4 printer paper is 29.7 cm long and 21 cm wide. Use this sheet of paper to measure the distance between the floor and the height mark you have made. Fold the paper in half or quarter to make a more precise tool. You can mark paper with a pencil to make a substitute for a ruler.

Step 5. Convert your shoe size to centimeters or millimeters
If you know your shoe size, you can convert that number to measure. Check online sizing guides to estimate your foot length based on your shoe size. Place your foot on a piece of paper and mark the length. Use this to measure the length of the wall between the floor and the height mark.
- For example, using European sizes, 35 is about 23 cm and 40 is about 25 cm.
- You can also cut a foot-sized piece of thread to measure the distance from the floor to the height mark.
