You can sign up for a Google Classroom session as a teacher or student by accessing the Google Classroom app and entering your account information. Remember, to be able to access Google Classroom, your school must be registered with a Google Apps for Education account. You'll also need to sign in to Google Chrome with your school email. This guide is intended for the English-language Google Classroom app and browser.

Method 1 of 2: Signing up for Google Classroom
Step 1. Open a blank page in Google Chrome
If you don't have Google Chrome installed, you can download it for free using another browser.
Step 2. Click the "People" button in the top right corner
This button is located to the left of the "Minimize" button and looks like a human silhouette.
When someone is logged into Chrome, their name will be displayed here
Step 3. Click the "Sign into Chrome" option
This option will ask you to enter your Google account information.
When someone is logged into Chrome, click "Switch Person"
Step 4. Enter your school's Gmail address, then click "Next"
Remember, do not enter your personal email address because Google Classroom can only be accessed using an email address affiliated with your school.
Your school email address will generally look something like “[email protected]”
Step 5. Enter your password
Use the password affiliated with your school's Gmail account.
Step 6. Click "Sign in" to enter Chrome
You will be redirected to a blank Google Chrome page.
Step 7. Sign in to the Google Classroom app
Click the link provided to visit Google Classroom. Remember, you must have a school email address to sign in to Google Classroom.
You can also click the "Apps" menu in the upper left corner of the toolbar on the new page. Click "Webstore" at the bottom of the page, then enter "Google Classroom." Click the Google Classroom app to install and access Classroom
Step 8. Scroll down the page and then click the "Student" or "Teacher" button
Depending on your status, you will be redirected to a whiteboard page to prepare for class (for teachers) or to a page with bars for entering class codes (for students).
Step 9. Enter the class code if you are a student
Your teacher will give you the class code before class starts.
Step 10. Click "Join" to enter the class
Safe! You have successfully registered and signed in to Google Classroom.
Method 2 of 2: Signing up for Google Apps for Education
Step 1. Open a blank page in Google Chrome
You need to register your school's website information--or what is often referred to as a "domain"--with Google Apps for Education. Google Apps for Education is a program that provides guides and apps for teachers to access Google Classroom.
Step 2. Visit the Google Apps for Education site
Google Apps for Education (GAFE) allows you to use various applications designed by Google to help teachers for free.
Step 3. Click "Get Google Apps for Education" at the bottom of the page
This button is blue and is located in the center of the screen. This will redirect you to the account creation page.
Step 4. Click the blue "Get Started" button
This button is next to the "Order through our site" option.
Step 5. Accept or decline partner support in the window that appears
By clicking the "I'm going to need some help" button, you will get help completing this process. If you click the "Got it" button, you can create an account without Google's help.
Step 6. Click "Yes, let's get started" in the window that opens
You must have access to your school's domain to create Google Apps for Education. Therefore, make sure you have prepared the required information.
Step 7. Click the cart icon in the top right corner of the screen
Once Chrome displays a notification on the right side of the screen that says "Google Apps for Education added to your cart", you can start creating an account by clicking on the cart.
Step 8. Click the "Set up productivity tools" button
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen, just below "Subtotal IDR0."
Step 9. Enter your school information in the fields provided
Enter your name, institution name, institution address, etc.
Step 10. Click "Next" to continue
You will be redirected to the domain page.
Step 11. Enter your school's official domain
If you do not have this information, contact your school's information technology department.
Step 12. Click "Next"
You will be redirected to the admin account creation page.
Step 13. Fill in the admin account page
You must provide your email address, password, and other admin information. By doing this, you will be handling the admin account.
Step 14. Click "Accept and signup"
Do this after reading your account terms and conditions. Google Apps for Education account created successfully!
Step 15. Visit the Admin Console
You still have to prove that your site and e-mail service are owned by an educational institution.
Step 16. Click "Add account", then enter your admin email address
This is the email address you just created.
Step 17. Enter your admin account password, then click "Sign in"
You will be redirected to the Administrator Console. Here, you can prove that your school's domain is owned by a non-profit education service.
Step 18. Click the "Verify Domain" button to start the verification process
Google takes one to two weeks to verify your school domain.
Tips
- If you're having trouble logging into Chrome with your school information, try clearing your browser by holding down the Control key and pressing the H key, then clicking "Clear browsing data" at the top of the window that opens.

Clicking on the three lines in the top right corner of Chrome when logged into Classroom will display several categories:
- "Classes". Displays classes and links to access them.
- "Calendar". View class events and calendar.
- "Works". Displays all assignments and class information.
- "Settings". Displays the settings page for changing passwords or other security options.
- Google Classroom is a free app!
- You can add photos to your Google Classroom profile and change them at any time.
