To join a class in Google Classroom, you must be signed in to Chrome with a student ID. You can join a Google Classroom class by entering your teacher's class code. Meanwhile, if you are a teacher, you can invite students to enter the class from the class page. This wikiHow teaches you how to sign in to Google Classroom, join a class as a student, and invite students if you're a teacher.

Part 1 of 3: Log In to Google Classroom
Step 1. Open Google Chrome
To enter Google Classroom, you must use the official Google browser.
Step 2. Click + to create a new tab
It's next to the open tabs at the top of Chrome. By clicking on it, you can access the Google Chrome login menu. Do this by clicking the “New Tab” button ("New Tab") just to the right of the current tab.
Step 3. Sign in to Google Chrome
If you're not signed in with your school ID, click the name (or the person icon) in the upper-right corner of the Chrome interface, then sign in. Use the username/email address associated with your school account (example: "[email protected]"). When finished, click Sign in to Chrome (Sign in to Chrome).
Step 4. Navigate to
You can do this by entering the URL into the bar at the top of Chrome and pressing Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac).
- Students will be directed to the class page with the option to join a new class by clicking the "+" icon at the top of the screen.
- The teacher will be directed to a page with a list of all his current classes.
- If this is your first time using Google Classroom, select a Google account when prompted, click the button CONTINUE (CONTINUE) is blue, then follow the on-screen instructions to continue.
Part 2 of 3: Join the Class as a Student
Step 1. Log into Chrome with your student account
If you are a student using a shared computer, sign out of the other student's account first before logging into your own. Do this by clicking the name in the top right corner of Chrome, clicking "Switch Person" and selecting "Remove Person" from the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the user's photo.

Step 3. Click the + sign in the top right corner of the page
A menu will open.
Step 4. Click Join class/Join class on the menu.
You will be asked to enter the class code.
Step 5. Enter the class code and click Join/Join.
You can get this code from the teacher when the class is created. After joining, you will see the main page of the class.
If you don't have a class code yet, check your school's email. You can also contact the teacher or look for it in the class syllabus
Step 6. Review the class page
If your teacher has information you need to work on, the list will be there.
- You can see upcoming assignments in the box along the left side of the page.
- By default, the page will open on a tab Forum (Stream) which is a compilation of posts from your other teachers and classmates.
- Click tab Classwork (Classwork) at the top of the page to view task details.
- Tab Member (People) to the right of the tab Classwork will show you a list of your classmates. This feature is useful if you need to contact other classmates for a group assignment.
- Click the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner to open the Class menu.
Part 3 of 3: Inviting Students to Class
Step 1. Make sure you are logged in with the correct account
Only teachers can invite students into the class.
Step 2. Navigate to

This is the class you want to add students to. The class list is the first page that appears when you log into Google Classroom.
Step 4. Click the Members tab/People.
It's in the top center of the page.
Step 5. Click the Invite Students symbol/Invite Students.
The logo is an image of a person with a plus sign (+) next to “Students” (“Students”).
Step 6. Enter the student's email address
As you type, a list of matching results will appear (if there are any).
Step 7. Click the student to add to the invite list
Repeat this step for as many students as you want to invite into the class.
Step 8. Click Invite/Invite to send an invitation.
Each student you invite will receive a code for that class by email. Your class list will now update to show the addresses of students who have been invited.
