Want to make money as quickly and easily as possible? Don't worry, you can do it easily! Try selling goods or services, doing odd jobs, and finding other ways to make money.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Knowing What To Do
Step 1. Sell your old stuff
There are various ways to sell unused items, including:
- Doing warehouse cleaning;
- Sanding, painting, and cleaning old furniture for sale in antique/thrift stores;
- Selling used items on eBay;
- Selling second hand clothes at thrift stores, and
- Sells old books, CDs, and games at specialty stores like FYE/Best Buy.
Step 2. Take paid surveys
Even though the payout from surveys is not big, only around $5-10, you can take many surveys to earn a lot of money. Good survey sites include:
- OpinionOutpost
- SurveySavvy
- SurveySpot
- Valued Opinions.
Step 3. Earn money from your body for the sake of science
You can do various things to earn money from your body, including:
- Participate in clinical trials;
- Sell plasma;
- Selling sperm, and
- Selling eggs.
Step 4. Do odd jobs
Now, you can find a lot of odd jobs on the internet to make money. Unfortunately, many jobs are only available in big cities. You can:
- Become a Gojek, Uber or Lyft driver;
- Shop for others with Instacart or Postmates;
- Become a child or home carer with UrbanSitter, DogVaca, or TrustedHouseSitters.com, or
- Teach with ruangguru.com, Wyzant, Istaedu, or Tutor.com.
Step 5. Rent a room in your house
The sharing economy powered by the advancement of the internet now makes it easier for you to make money. Try:
- AirBnB
- HomeAway
- FlipKey
- OneFineStay.
Step 6. Become an online freelancer
You can be a writer, editor, or freelancer doing things that machines can't. The money you get is small, but the work is always there, and you can do it at any time. You can do anything from writing to trial simulations. Try these sites to find work:
- Authors: eLance, iWriter, WritersDomain
- Freelancing: Amazon Mechanical Turk
- Trial simulation: eJury, OnlineVerdict.com
- Virtual assistant: VirtualAssistantJobs.com, Zirtual
Step 7. Create a credit card or bank account with a bonus
Opening an account carelessly is not recommended, but a bonus account or credit card can be an easy way to get money. However, many credit cards require a minimum purchase before the bonus drops.
If your credit card offers a cash back bonus, use the credit card to pay the entire bill, then pay the credit card immediately afterwards to prevent interest
Method 2 of 4: Selling Items
Step 1. Sell the item to a local shop
Many shops, both local and national, accept goods at low prices and resell them. Take a look at your home and find items you don't want, need, or use. Then, visit a secondhand store in your area.
- If you are an avid reader, try to find a book you no longer read. Books with good quality can be sold for a decent price in used bookstores.
- Everyone has clothes, and sometimes, we have too many clothes. If your closet is too full, sort through the contents and find clothes that are outdated or no longer fit. Clothes without holes, stains, or wear defects are usually priced fairly well.
- If you have a lot of CDs, try selling some of them. A flawless CD with an intact case can sell for tens, even hundreds, of thousands of rupiah. Find a music store in your area, and ask if they accept used CDs.
- If you have a lot of games, sort through your old games. Many game shops accept old games if the game containers they carry are undamaged. Even if your old games are only undervalued, at least you're still earning money on items you no longer use.
- Try taking used items to a thrift store. Thrift stores accept all kinds of items, from blenders to motorcycle jackets.
Step 2. Sell the item directly
If you want to sell your items in person, instead of taking your items to the store, try doing laundry or advertising your items online. While you'll need to do more preparation, instead of taking things to the store, you can earn more money by selling things yourself.
- Do laundry. You may only get a maximum of 50% of the price of new items, but at least you will earn money on items you no longer use. Make sure you plan your laundry, by advertising in the local paper and posting flyers at intersections or highways.
- Sell expensive items on Craigslist or eBay to attract more people. If you have an item that is quite expensive, sell it online. Craigslist can be a great way to sell to buyers in the same country, without the hassle of shipping between countries.
Step 3. Sell your body parts
As strange as it may sound, you can actually sell your body parts for high prices. Of course, in this case we are not talking about organs, but parts such as genetic material, plasma, and hair.
- If your hair is over 25cm long and healthy, consider cutting it and selling your haircut to a toupee company. Hair that is naturally treated, never colored, and never straightened costs the most, especially if the texture or color is unique. The longer your hair, the more expensive it will be.
- Sell your plasma to the nearest blood bank. Plasma is blood cells that are given to patients with certain health problems. You can donate your plasma many times, and generally, you will get hundreds of thousands of rupiah per visit.
- Sell your sperm. While not all men are willing to give their genetic material to someone else, if you really need the money and want to help a couple having trouble conceiving, sell your sperm. You can earn up to IDR 1,300,000 per visit.
- Sell your eggs. For women who want to make a lot of money (even more from selling sperm!) and don't mind selling eggs, an egg can sell for up to IDR 1.3 billion. The process of selling eggs can take several weeks, and requires several injections and minor surgery. You may not feel comfortable with the process, but the money you get in a short amount of time is definitely worth it.
Step 4. Sell metal, from old jewelry to scrap metal behind the house
Metal is well priced, and easy to find cheaply.
- Currently, gold is sold at a high price, which is US$1,350 per 31.1 gram (ounce) for 24-karat gold. Even though the gold in jewelry isn't that high quality, you can earn millions by selling old rings or necklaces.
- Scrap is a source of money that many people don't think of. If you have a used car, boat, or caravan, or a building with a lot of scrap metal, try dismantling it and then selling the scrap metal to the nearest metal shop. You can get millions of rupiah from the sale of scrap metal.
- Collect iron cans every time you have a party. Iron cans can be sold to recycling shops for a few thousand rupiah per kg (1 kg of iron is equivalent to 32 cans). By selling used cans, you not only cultivate an environmentally friendly life, but you can also earn money.
- Pick up scrap metal from an abandoned warehouse, or from a trash can. You may also be able to buy a used car or boat for less than the scrap metal inside.
Step 5. Sell the result of the skill
If you can cook, paint, garden, or sculpt, sell your skills. You can't just sell your skills in the marketplace; for true artists, there is always a way to sell their work.
- Try opening a shop on an online marketplace, such as Etsy or eBay. Online marketplaces allow you to advertise products, post short product descriptions, and promote items on your site. Now, Etsy has been successful as a place to sell art at high prices.
- Take your work to a local bazaar, exhibition or market. Visitors to local bazaars, fairs or markets are usually looking for handcrafted items, so you don't have to bother looking for a niche market. Some bazaars may require you to rent a booth, but you may also be able to sell for free.
- Market your products in boutiques and offices around. Visit a place that may provide products similar to yours and ask the place manager for permission to sell items there. Most business owners will be happy to assist you by giving you a license to sell.
Step 6. Sell ad space on your site
If you have a blog or website, sell ad space in the open column of your site. You can join various affiliate link programs to provide advertising space on your site to large third party companies. To get a lot of money from advertising results, keep the number of visitors by continuing to post interesting articles.
Step 7. Rent out the space you have
If you have an empty room, an empty space downstairs, or a parking space on a busy street, consider renting out the space. The whole rental process is in your hands so you can cancel it at any time if it turns out that the rental is not profitable.
- If you want to rent out part of your house, prepare the necessary contracts and permits to prevent things from happening.
- Try advertising parking spaces to neighbors who have more than one car. Find information about parking fees in your area to find out what rates you will offer.
Step 8. Sell stock photos
Stock photos are simple photos that can be used for articles, brochures, and so on. Stock photos are sold at a low price so you won't make much profit per photo. However, if you upload a lot of photos, you can earn quite a bit of money, especially if a photo is sold multiple times. To sell photos, you just need to take a good photo, upload it, and wait for a buyer.
Method 3 of 4: Getting a Part-time Job
Step 1. Try being a babysitter or housekeeper
While it may sound like a girl's job to look after the house or the kids, by being a caretaker, you can earn a lot of money. Apart from taking care of your children, you can also take care of your home, pets, and garden. Advertise your services on news boards in your area, and don't forget to spread the ads around your home to increase your chances of getting a job.
- If you love animals, waiting for your pet or walking your dog can be a good way to make money. When your friends, family, or neighbors are on vacation, offer to look after their pets for a fee. They will feel helped, and you can earn money doing what you love.
- Housekeeping is probably the best "keeping" job. You are paid to live in someone's home, and ensure there are no accidents or thefts while the homeowner is on vacation or away on business. While you may only need to do daily checks, house keeping is a very easy way to make a lot of money.
Step 2. Find menial jobs
Everyone has something to do, whether it's cleaning a crack in the roof, checking a car's engine, or cleaning the house from rooms to sheds. Advertise your services to friends and family, letting them know that you are willing to do the menial work for a low price.
Step 3. Be a mystery shopper
Mystery shoppers are people who are paid to visit shops and restaurants in secret, and then report the results of their visits to online surveys afterwards. Usually, you are paid IDR 100,000 to visit a shop, and the visit usually takes no longer than 15 minutes.
- The Mystery Shoppers Providers Association regulates third-party mystery shoppers in the US, so visit the organization's website for access to its secure mystery shopper program.
- If you have to buy something, generally clothing or food, you will be refunded after filling out the survey.
Step 4. Work on ChaCha
ChaCha is a telephone service that provides answers to all questions. As a worker, you have to choose a topic you know well, do your research and then answer questions as quickly as possible.
- Before becoming a worker, you will be asked to take a test, to ensure that you can follow the system in ChaCha and perform tasks.
- ChaCha pays workers US$3-9 per hour, and does not require a specific number of hours. You only need to log into the system when you want to work, and work as you wish.
Step 5. Find a job as a referee
If you like sports, understand the rules of your favorite sport, and be the referee! You will be paid around IDR 150,000 per game, and you can participate in any sport you like. However, make sure you really understand the rules of the game to avoid mistakes and player anger.
Step 6. Become a freelancer
Many employers require freelancers, so offer your services to a freelancer agency. While being a freelancer isn't a quick way to make money, the jobs that freelancers do are usually easy, as you don't have time to go through training to do complex tasks.
- Become a virtual assistant. If you have experience in administration and want to work from home, look for jobs on sites like VirtualAssistants.com and Taskrabbit.com. You may need to wait about a week for your application to be processed, but this job is perfect for housewives, or done in between other jobs.
- Find seasonal work. Many businesses/shops experience a surge in customers at certain times, depending on the services/goods provided. Find a job for a few days/weeks at a local shop/office that roughly requires it.
Step 7. Work on special events
Many employers need freelancers to advertise or help with certain events. You may be paid to stand in the street and hold a sign, or give out product samples at the mall. The pay you receive is generally calculated on an hourly basis, and the work given has a short period of time, namely a few days or weeks.
Step 8. Try the mechanical turk program, which is a program for doing tasks that are difficult for computers to do, but very easy for humans to do because of their simple and repetitive nature
You can work on the task at any time, and you'll be paid in cents per job. Even though the task is easy, you will have to spend a lot of time working on it in order to earn a lot of money.
- Amazon's mechanical turk program will transfer the work to your Amazon account, but you can cash it out after $10.
- You can choose the desired job from the list of requirements, but work on a mechanical turk can be tedious. If you are patient, you can earn quite a bit of money in a week!
Step 9. Be a newspaper deliveryman
This job is suitable for those of you who are diligent in getting up early. By delivering newspapers, you can earn millions of rupiah. Because it is done in the morning, this work will not clash with class or regular work.
Method 4 of 4: Finding Other Ways to Earn Money
Step 1. Try an online survey
Reputable online survey sites pay you $5-10 per survey. To increase pocket money, you can take 1-2 surveys per day.
Step 2. Be a part of scientific research
Universities, researchers, and drug manufacturers are always looking for research participants. By becoming a research participant, you can earn millions of rupiah, depending on the research you are participating in. Most studies require healthy participants, but there is also research that requires participants with certain medical conditions.
- Visit the website of your nearest university, or the website of the department of health, to find out what research you can do near you.
- Take NASA sleep research, which requires you to sleep in one of their mattresses for 3 months with as little physical activity as possible. You'll earn $10,000 after completing this task, but the payout will dissipate months after you're forced to sleep.
- By participating in medical research, you are at risk for side effects, but your chances of experiencing side effects are usually small.
Step 3. Give your opinion
Many companies want to know what lay people think about their services or products. To find out what ordinary people think about certain services/products, the company conducts online surveys that anyone can take, and of course, pay.
- Try visiting opinionoutpost.com. On this site, there are many surveys for a few dollars that you can take.
- Join focus groups, both online and offline. In focus groups, you must provide feedback on a specific product or idea. You may be paid up to $100, depending on the difficulty of the group activity.
Step 4. Find the gift list
If you want to change banks, create a new credit card, or recommend a company you like to a friend, find a gift before you decide.
Step 5. Advertise for a specific company
Companies want their products and services to be known to as many people as possible, and to achieve that goal, they pay ordinary people to advertise. You may be asked to advertise online or offline.
- Paste the ad on the car. You may need to stick your ad for several months or years, depending on the product being advertised. However, the advertising costs that you get can run into millions of rupiah, and removing the ad will not damage your car.
- Sell status updates on your Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram accounts. You can choose which ads will appear as updates on your favorite social media accounts. The more ads you post and the more followers you have, the more you can get paid. Visit ad.ly.com to get started.
Step 6. Volunteer at a food bank
Many cities have local food banks powered entirely by volunteers. Although volunteers are not paid, most volunteers will receive food (both prepared and raw) for free. Free food is the same as wages!
Step 7. Earn money from smart phone
Apps like Field Agent, CheckPoints, WeReward, MyLikes, and Gigwalk let you take on certain small tasks, from snapping a photo of yourself in a cafe to scanning a barcode, to get paid. These apps can be a good way to earn money during lunch or shopping.
Step 8. Find unclaimed money or property
Visit unclaimed.org to find the site of the state you live in (this step only works in the US/Canada), then follow the guide to finding and claiming your money if any. If you think you've ever had an unclaimed check or transfer, this is the place to find it.
Tips
- Never pay to join a survey panel. Trusted survey panels are usually free.
- Be careful before accepting a job.
- Act positive to get positive results. If you act negatively, your results will also be negative.
- Offer your services only to close friends and family. Don't offer yourself to strangers, they may have bad intentions if you don't know them.
- Work hard to earn a lot of money.
- Ideally, join an affiliate program that offers two-tier commissions. With this program, you can invite friends or other people who want to make money online, and when they are successful in selling goods, you will also get a small percentage as a reward for inviting them.
- Collect pennies, because the adage "little by little over time becomes a hill" is true. Enjoy your work!
