Method 1 of 2: Confuse Cleverbot with Special Tricks
Step 1. Type the lyrics of a song
Compared to other computer programs, Cleverbot is a very skilled speaker. However, Cleverbot knows nothing about music. If you type in a few lines of lyrics to your favorite song, Cleverbot will often take the lyrics literally or give nonsensical responses, even to famous song lyrics.
However, for certain songs that are very popular, Cleverbot can perfectly (and will) pronounce the lyrics of the song as you start typing them. For example, try typing the initial lyrics to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody": "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?"
Step 2. Give Cleverbot a logical paradox
A paradox is a statement, question, or idea that has an answer that cannot be found logically. Some of history's greatest thinkers have tried to escape logical paradoxes, so Cleverbot will be very confused by paradoxical chatter. Additionally, Cleverbot is incapable of discussing potentially paradoxical subjects, such as time travel. Use some of the paradoxes below, or you can also use a search engine to find examples of other types of paradoxes.
- "If this statement is true, then Santa Claus is real."
- " Since we haven't been visited by people from the future, does that mean that time travel will never be possible?"
- " What would happen if Pinocchio were to say, "My nose will grow right now?"
Step 3. Ask Cleverbot to play the game
Cleverbot is not very fun to play. For example, if you ask him to play chess or halma, he will say "OK". But when you say "You go first", you will get a nonsensical response. This may be due to the fact that Cleverbot can't play - he knows how to say he wants to play chess, but doesn't really know how to play chess.
However, Cleverbot can play rock paper scissors. Say "Let's play rock paper scissors", then say "Rock", "Paper", or "Scissors"
Step 4. Type a cheesy romantic dialogue line for Cleverbot
Sooner or later, almost everyone who wants to play with Cleverbot has a joking idea to express their love or interest. While Cleverbot can answer basic love requests like " I love you " and " Marry me ", the program is not very good at interpreting comments or subtle romantic advances. For those looking to seduce Cleverbot, take a direct approach for best results.
Provide an opening sentence for Cleverbot, such as "I don't have a library card, but do you mind if I check you out?". The response you get will be a little confusing (if you used that sentence, you would get an "I can say anything.")
Step 5. Ask Cleverbot to answer the math problem
You might think that Cleverbot is a computer program capable of solving math problems almost instantly. In fact, Cleverbot sucks at answering math problems, even for very simple questions. Cleverbot's confusing response will quickly emerge with this strategy.
Sometimes you'll get a different response if you don't use numbers but spell them out. For example, asking "What is 200 times 2?" will get a response of "4", but if you ask "What is two hundred times two?", Cleverbot's response is "A number"
Step 6. Talk about supernatural things
Cleverbot doesn't have the common sense of a human, so it doesn't have a good understanding of what's real and what's not. Chatting about monsters, aliens, spirits, and other supernatural phenomena would confuse him. Other confusing topics include religious or spiritual topics, even if those themes are quite popular.
You can even use the subject of a modern ghost story. For example if you say " Have you ever been visited by Slenderman? ", Cleverbot will respond with " My life is a lie?"
Step 7. Talk about famous people
Cleverbot knows nothing about politics or celebrity gossip. Asking his opinion about a famous person or public figure almost always leaves him confused. For example, for the question "What do you think about Brad Pitt?", then Cleverbot's response is "I think he si (sic) a great president, he'll change the states".
You might also try talking about other things famous people have done - Cleverbot isn't very smart about these things. For example, by typing " What do you think about the president's social policies? ", Cleverbot will respond: " I think he isn't the president anymore"
Method 2 of 2: Confusing Cleverbot with General Strategy
Step 1. Speak with a lot of emotion
Cleverbot does not have a good understanding of the emotional context needed to understand human communication. Cleverbot will usually assume everything you say is true. Because of this, Cleverbot isn't very "smart" for emotional and explosive questions. Try typing a rambling, angry insulting sentence, or an apology from Cleverbot for a trivial matter. Usually, Cleverbot's response will make no sense.
Step 2. Talk nonsense
One powerful way to mess with Cleverbot is to send it messages that make no sense to humans. Type nonsense, whether intentionally misspelled words, new words, or randomly typing on the keyboard. You will get some funny responses. For example below:
- " Asuerycbasuircanys " (meaningless random word)
- " What is your opinion on the tornalions in reffriddo? " (fake word)
- " Wut arr ewe dewing later this eavning? " (misspelled word)
Step 3. Use lots of slang words
Cleverbot doesn't have the common sense to digest sentences that use slang, especially new terms. Using a lot of colloquialism in your messages will make Cleverbot think hard. The more slang you use, the better, because Cleverbot can still respond well to simple sentences like "What's up, dog?". Start with the following example sentences:
- " h0w 4r3 y0u d01n6, cl3v3rb07 ?" (joking language)
- " Yo, whatstup, bro? Lemme ask you a question, broseph - how are you doing today, broheim? " (familiar language)
- "Well, pardner, it's about time we saddle up, hit that old dusty trail, and high-tail it out of here." (cowboy language)
Step 4. Use a long message
The longer and more complex the message you write to Cleverbot, the less likely it is to respond correctly. Typing a rambling message (or an entire long-winded conversation) will get a pretty funny response from Cleverbot. Don't worry about stopping a sentence and then starting it again. Periods, question marks, and exclamation points can also be used in the middle of a message.
For example, you can use the same long, aimless chat as you would if you were meeting a friend. For example, you might try: "Cleverbot, how are you? I was just thinking about you. I hope you're doing well. I had a great weekend - I went hiking up on Castle Rock on Saturday. Beautiful views from the top. Have you ever been up there? We should go sometime. Anyway, I just wanted to know what you were up to."
Step 5. Keep chatting for a long time
The longer you ask questions, the more likely Cleverbot is to get "dizzy". After ten or twelve messages in the conversation, Cleverbot will forget about the original topic of conversation, and just take each message literally as best he can. This can make for a pretty awkward conversation, especially if Cleverbot misunderstands what you're typing.
You can use the " Think For Me! " button on Cleverbot.com. This button makes Cleverbot think of a response to its own message. Since Cleverbot communicates with itself by its very nature, using this button can quickly mess up a chat, even if you only use it a few times
Tips
- If Cleverbot misspells a word, remind him of it. Cleverbot will be very confused.
- Emoticons can also confuse Cleverbot.
