In Pokémon games, HMs (or Hidden Moves) are special skills that have uses in the real world as well. One example is the HM Waterfall skill, which you can use to climb waterfalls while you're walking, and Waterfall is also a great attack skill for Pokémon. Unlike other HM skills like Strength, Surf, and Fly, Waterfall isn't given automatically, so you'll have to find it yourself.
Step
Step 1. Get the HM Surf skill
You must be able to use the Surf skill to find Waterfall. Surf is a skill that allows you to mount a Pokémon's back to walk on water in the game, allowing you to explore the ocean. Get Surf in Pokémon Black by:
- Get the Jet Badge, by defeating the Gym Leader in Mistralon City.
- Defeat your rival, Cheren, at the entrance to Twist Mountain.
- Talk to Alder at Twist Mountain, and he will give you HM Surf.
Step 2. Go to Route 1
Climbable waterfalls are found on the cliffs along the ocean Route 1. Head to the ocean with a Pokémon that has the Surf skill.
Step 3. Surf the small beach area to the left of Route 1
The beach is at the southern end of Route 1, which is near the town where you started the game and the weeds.
Step 4. Walk southwest of the ocean, then land under an impassable line of rocks
You'll reach land again, where there are two Pokémon trainers as well as a bunch of weeds. Follow the path to the southwest (down and left) until you find a tunnel.
Step 5. Go through the tunnel until you reach Route 18
You will find another ocean again. Use Surf to get into the ocean again.
Step 6. Use Surf to walk to the far land on the left side of the map, where there is a big ladder
You'll face off against some Pokémon trainers and wild Pokémon on your way there, but there aren't any really tough battles in between. After that, you will reach a large land, where there is a giant ladder. Walk up the stairs to continue the journey.
Step 7. Keep walking to the left (west) until you find a narrow cliff filled with tall grass
On the far left of the land, there is a plateau area as wide as an elongated patch and is filled with tall grass. HM Waterfall is located at the southeasternmost tip of the plain.
