Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) is the largest series of Grand Theft Auto games stored on two digital versatile discs (digital versatile discs or DVDs). Luckily, you don't have to replace the disc after installing the game. To install games, you will need to delete some games and data stored on the Xbox 360's storage device (storage device or hardware used to store data) to have enough free space. If you're using the Arcade or Core versions of the Xbox 360, you'll need an external hard drive to install the games because the hard disks installed on both consoles don't have enough free space.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Free Up Device Storage
Step 1. Check how much free space is available
GTA V requires at least 8GB of free space on the Xbox 360 storage device.
- Press the " Guide " button on the controller.
- Select "Settings" and then select the "System" option.
- Select the "Storage" option on the "System" menu.
- The available free space on the hard disk or USB flash drive connected to the console will be displayed. GTA V must be installed on a hard disk or USB flash drive connected to the Xbox 360.
Step 2. Get rid of files or games that you no longer need
You can free up storage by deleting files and games that you no longer use. We recommend that you have 8GB of free space on your hard drive or USB flash drive. Just in case, you should allocate 10GB of free space.
- Select the storage device, such as a hard disk or USB flash drive, that you want to free up.
- Select the category that contains the file or game that you want to delete. The storage space used by each category will be displayed.
- Select the file or game you want to delete and then select the " Delete " option. You will be asked to confirm that you want to delete the file.
- Repeat these steps to delete other files or games.
Step 3. Use a USB flash drive to install the game if you don't have enough free space or have an Xbox 360 that has a 4GB hard drive or has an Arcade or Core version of the Xbox 360
The Arcade and Core Xbox 360 storage devices only have 4GB of storage space and you can't install a new hard drive on either console. You can use a USB flash drive to increase the storage space.
- You will need a USB flash drive that has at least 16 GB of storage space to install the game. In addition, the USB flash drive must support USB 2.0 and have a minimum read speed of 15 MBps. Using the latest version of a USB flash drive can improve game performance.
- Make sure your Xbox 360 has the latest updates.
- Insert an external hard drive or USB flash drive into the Xbox 360 port.
- Press the " Guide " button on the controller. Select the "Settings" option and then select the "System" option. Select the "Storage" option on the "System" menu.
- Select the "USB Storage Device" option and select the "Configure Now" option to set up the USB flash drive to be compatible with the Xbox 360 system.
Part 2 of 2: Installing the Game
Step 1. Insert GTA V number 1 digital verstile disc into Xbox 360
Make sure you insert the GTA V disc number 1 (Disc 1) because that disc is used to start the installation of the game.
Step 2. Open " Home " on " Dashboard ", select the " Play Grand Theft Auto V " option, and press the A button
This will start the installation of the game.
If you accidentally insert disc number 2 (Disc 2), the Xbox 360 system will prompt you to insert disc number 1
Step 3. Select the storage device on which you installed GTA V
Make sure the storage device has 8 GB of free space.
Step 4. Wait for the installation of the game to complete
This process will take a while because the console will have to copy the large data and load it onto the storage device. You can keep an eye on the progress of the game installation by looking at the indicator located at the bottom right of the screen when installing the game.
Step 5. Insert disc number 2 when the Xbox 360 system asks for it
When the installation of the game is complete, you will see the message "Alert: Please insert disc 2". After seeing the message, you don't need to go back to the " Dashboard ". Take out disc number 1 and insert disc number 2 to start playing GTA V.
Step 6. Do not mount disc number 2
The Xbox 360 gives you the option to install any game disc on your hard drive. While installing disc number 2 may benefit some games, installing disc number 2 on your hard drive can reduce game performance.
Step 7. Use disc number 2 to play the game
Once GTA V is installed, you can start playing the game immediately by inserting disc number 2 into your Xbox 360. You don't need to use disc number 1 after installing the game.
Handling Problems That Appear in Game Installation
Step 1. Check the condition of your hard disk or reinstall the game if you get a "Problem with storage device" message
This message may appear when you are trying to play GTA V or install it.
- The cause of this problem is usually a corrupted or incompatible storage device with the system console. Make sure the USB flash drive supports USB 2.0 and has a minimum read speed of 15 MBps.
- Reinstalling the game might fix this problem. Clear game data using the Storage menu and try installing the game again.
- Your Xbox 360 hard disk may have been damaged. If the game is mounted on a hard disk, try installing the game on a USB flash drive.
Step 2. Clear cache if Xbox 360 system stops working while playing or installing games
This may be due to cache stored on the Xbox 360 system. Clearing the cache may fix this problem. Clearing the cache will not delete game data or games stored on the console. However, you will have to re-download the game updates that have been released if you clear the cache.
- Press the " Guide " button on the controller. Select the "Settings" option and then select the "System" option. Select the "Storage" option on the "System" menu.
- Select the storage device connected to the console and press the Y key. The selected type of storage device will not be a problem because the cache stored on all storage devices will be deleted.
- Select the "Clear System Cache" option and select the "Yes" option.
- Try reinstalling GTA V after clearing cache.
